The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Traffic Maintenance Worker I in the Public Works Department! In this role you will have the opportunity receive on-the-job training in traffic maintenance. You'll learn to paint and install traffic control markings on pavement as well as design, fabricate, install, repair and maintain traffic warning signs, parking signs and other signs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is: 
Equivalent to graduation from twelfth grade and six months of work experience as a laborer in construction or maintenance work.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds and to perform sustained physical labor.
• Must be willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions and to work with exposure to heavy traffic.
• Must be willing to work overtime and off-hours shifts in emergency situations. 
• Possession of a Level I IMSA Sign and Pavement Markings Certificate within 6 months of hire. 

THE POSITIONS

The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill one (1) Mechanic vacancy and one (1) Senior Mechanic vacancy in the Fleet Services Section of the Maintenance Division.

Mechanics at all levels perform maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and perform other duties as assigned.

The Mechanic is a journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures.

The Senior Mechanic is an advanced journey and lead level position classification in the Mechanic series and may be distinguished from those in the Mechanic class by the broader range of responsibilities and leading a crew. Senior Mechanics provide lead direction and training to section staff.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• United States citizen or legal right to remain in the United States 
• San Luis Obispo County paramedic certificate/accreditation is preferred
• Current Health Care Provider CPR or equivalent
• Hazardous Materials First Responder Operational certified
• Valid California driver's license with either non-commercial Firefighter Endorsement or Class B commercial license, with driving and operating experience. (Applicants who do not possess the required DMV license or CPR certification may be admitted to the testing process but must possess the required license or certification prior to being appointed.)
• Must have begun the State Fire Officer’s Certification track
• Three years of firefighting experience with supervisory experience 

Some minimum requirements may be waived upon substantial demonstration and documentation of substitute fulfillment.

Desirable Licenses, Certificates & Qualifications 

• College graduate or holds a college degree, preferably in fire science or other comparable coursework
• Fire Officer certified
• Hazardous Materials Technician or Specialist

Benefits

• $86,683 to $105,364 annually
• Non-exempt employees assigned to a 56-hour (average) workweek schedule will receive pay for overtime as defined in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). All overtime shall be paid at a rate of one and one-half (1 ½) times the regular hourly rate of pay.
• All covered employees hired on or after December 28, 2012, who are not defined as “new members” under the Public Employees Pension Reform Act (“PEPRA”) will be covered by the 3% @ 55 retirement formula and the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation provision.  All covered employees hired on or after January 1, 2013, and who are defined as “new members” under PEPRA will be covered by the 2.7% at 57 retirement formula and the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation provision. 
• Regular employees, after completion of their probationary period, shall be eligible for the Health Care Reimbursement Program. Eligible employees receive a credit of $1300 each January 1.
• For all regular employees working full time, the District will pay 85% of the premiums currently in effect for employee and dependent coverage for the lowest cost plan available to District employees offered through the PERS system.
• For all regular employees working full-time, the District will pay 85% of the premiums for employee and dependent coverage for the lowest-cost dental plan.  In the event the employees elect a higher cost coverage, the employees shall pay the increased cost for that plan.
• A Group Life Insurance Plan will be provided with a $25,000 life insurance policy for each unit member, a $1,000 policy for each employee's spouse, and a $1,000 for each employee's dependent under the age of 21.  The CCSD will pay the full monthly premium for each unit member, spouse, and dependent children.
• Covered employees assigned to a 56-hour average workweek schedule shall accrue 4.31 hours of vacation leave biweekly (112 hrs/yr) from the date of hire to sixty (60) months of service.
• Each full-time employee, assigned to a 56-hour average workweek, shall accrue sick leave from the date of employment at the rate of 6.4 hours per 14-day payroll period (based on 120 hours per year times the conversion factor of 1.4).
• In lieu of time off on holidays, covered employees assigned to a 56-hour workweek shall accrue 5.92 hours of holiday leave per 14-day payroll period for a total of 154 hours per year (based on 110 hours per year times the conversion factor of 1.4). 
• The District shall provide covered employees with an annual boot or safety shoe allowance of $250, payable in July of each year.

The Paid Call Firefighter (PCF) Entry Level position is the first position in the classification of Paid Call Firefighter. This position is supervised by the Training Battalion Chief, PCF Program Manager or direct supervisor. The Entry Level PCF must successfully complete a 12-month probationary period and acquire the basic knowledge, skills and abilities required for successful performance as a PCF.  During the probationary period, the PCF will attend a Fire Academy provided by the District. Before the end of the 12-month probationary period, the PCF must be a certified Emergency Medical Technician.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must live within Santa Cruz County.
• Be at least 18 years of age by August 31, 2024.
• Possess a valid California Class C Driver's License and pass an "insurability" check by the District's insurance carrier.
• Copy of current Driving Record issued by CA DMV- available online.
• Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent by August 31, 2024.
• Must pass a District-provided medical physical exam including a drug screening and background investigation.
• Must have a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) certification, completed before the CalOpps application closing date August 31, 2024. 
• Must have a valid, passing score of the written exam from FCTC, completed before the CalOpps application closing date of August 31, 2024.

MAINTENANCE TRAINEE – PARKS & GROUNDS

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Maintenance Trainee – Is an entry-level trainee position. Incumbents learn to perform the full scope of duties of the Maintenance I class. This class is alternately staffed with Maintenance I and incumbents may advance to the higher-level class after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Inspect, clean, repair, and maintain City parks and trail system to ensure facilities are safe and usable; inspect, clean, and stock park restrooms; remove refuse from City garbage cans.
• Plant, cultivate, and provide upkeep for City landscapes and parks; mow lawns, replant vegetation, and prune trees, shrubs, and ground covers.
• Prepare and apply pesticides, growth regulators, and fertilizers; identify and appropriately label the containers when using these materials; document materials used.

Individuals within this class exhibit comprehensive proficiency in independently carrying out a spectrum of Parks & Grounds maintenance responsibilities. This entails not only performing tasks such as inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining City parks, landscape areas, and trail systems, but also making informed decisions regarding safety and usability. The Maintenance I role stands apart from Maintenance II, the lead-level in the series, as Maintenance II holds responsibility for overseeing the tasks performed by a crew engaged in parks and grounds maintenance.

The City of Patterson is recruiting for a Firefighter Paramedic.  This safety position will respond to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, traffic accidents, rescue and other emergency calls to protect life and property.  This position will also participate in trainings, drills, study activities and in the maintenance of the department apparatus, equipment, and facilities.  Under the supervision of the Fire Engineer or Fire Captain, performs ALS care to patients of medical emergencies and other medical procedures. The City is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor who will be an integral part of the Maintenance Division in the Public Works Department. The Supervisor will work with the Maintenance leadership team to plan, direct and supervise a wide variety of tasks related to one or more of the Division's four sections - streets; fleet and equipment; buildings and facilities; and landscape and parks. The initial assignment will be supervising the landscape and parks sections. 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education :

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent 

Experience

Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in one or more of the following: building and facilities maintenance, fleet and equipment maintenance, landscape and parks maintenance or streets maintenance, including two (2) years of lead responsibility or other qualifying higher level public works maintenance experience.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
• When responsible for the Landscape and Parks section: 

              a. Playground Safety, Pest Control Advisor and/or Arborist certificates may be required within

                   twelve months of assignment.

• When responsible for the Fleet and Equipment section: 

                 a. M1 and/or Class A driver license with tank endorsement may be required within twelve months

                      of assignment.

Water System Worker III (Lead Position)
