DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

     The San José Fire Department is recruiting to fill a Hazardous Materials Inspector II position. The Hazardous Materials Inspector II’s may be assigned to Hazardous Materials Development Services group to perform plan reviews and inspections, or to Hazardous Materials Code Enforcement group to conduct detailed field inspections at facilities storing, handling, or using hazardous materials. This includes inspecting both common, and highly hazardous materials unique to Silicon Valley, for compliance with good engineering practices and the San Jose Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) regulations, CSFM adopted sections of the California Building Code Series, San Jose Hazardous Materials Storage Permit Ordinance, San Jose Toxic Gas Ordinance, and applicable National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) nationally recognized standards.   

     Duties for this position include, but may not be limited to:

     *

          + Provide critical feedback to facilities, consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, department officers/staff and the Fire Marshal on the application and/or interpretation of fire safety codes/regulations and on resolution of fire safety and hazardous materials issues identified in the design, construction or operations of buildings and integrated systems;

          + Review and analyze hazardous materials inventory statements for chemical classification;

          + Review and analyze hazardous materials business plans, construction documents, monitoring and treatment system plans for compliance with codes and regulations;

          + Respond to complaint investigations for alleged violations of the aforementioned codes and standards.

          + Respond to chemical fires, explosions, and releases to provide technical assistance; maintain accurate and complete inspection and facilities records, prepare citations, appear in court to provide testimony as required;

          + Assist outside agencies and other City Departments including, Code Enforcement, Building Department, Planning Department, Public Works, Environmental Services-Wastewater Pretreatment.

          + Prepares enforcement cases for the City Attorney and District Attorney including the preparation of analytical data, reports, and assisting in interpreting laws and regulations.

     Positions assigned to the Hazardous Materials Development Services group are primarily responsible for plan checking and related construction and tenant improvement inspection services. Positions assigned to Hazardous Materials Code Enforcement group are primarily responsible for conducting inspections and enforcement at existing facilities on a regular frequency, complaint investigations as needed, and supporting the Bureau of Field Operations as requested. Both group activities do cross over, as required for back up and special demands and for cross training, as needed.

THE POSITION

The City of Dublin is looking for Lifeguard/Swim Instructors to perform lifeguard duties including enforcing City public swimming pool rules, monitoring pool patron conduct, and perform emergency rescue and lifesaving techniques, if necessary, and teach swimming classes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.

• Enforce swimming pool rules and regulations, including ensuring orderly conduct by pool patrons.
• Assist in providing instruction for a variety of swimming classes for all ages and ability levels.
• Assist swimmers who are in distress and administer a variety of first aid and/or life saving techniques, as appropriate.
• Assist in maintaining pool areas in a safe and clean condition.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is the next level class above Facilities Maintenance Worker II. Works independently on assignments which require skills and experience in Facilities Maintenance. While performing maintenance activities, the Maintenance Technician is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; lift and/or move 80 lbs. Heavy physical outdoor work may sometimes be required during a normal maintenance work day. Work in inclement weather is also required. Work on holidays, weekends, and nights may be required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a non-exempt position represented by the Teamsters Union.

•  Retirement: CalPERS retirement plan for Classic members is 2% @ 60 with employee paying a contribution of 7%. PEPRA employees participate on a 2.0% @ 62 plan, with employee paying 6.75% of the retirement contribution. Benefits based on highest three years of compensation. DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provides technical and public information for all aspects of the development review process, which includes planning, zoning, plan review, building inspection, permit issuance and related areas such as housing and code enforcement; provides information to the public at a counter or over the telephone; performs related work as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

Receives general supervision from the Building Official and/or Planning and Building Director. 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is an experienced level class, in which incumbents with well developed office skills and some familiarity with planning and/or building and/or other development review concepts become competent to perform the day-to-day responsibilities of providing development, housing and building information to the public, processing plans and permit applications and providing technical support to departmental staff.  This class is distinguished from the planner, plan checking and building inspection classes in that the latter are professional and/or technical specialists in their areas of expertise, while this position provides support to all functional areas.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Incumbents in this position typically perform but are not limited to the duties noted below on a regular basis:

The Position

The City of San Bruno is currently seeking an energetic and dedicated leader to serve as Fire Marshal (Non-Suppression Administrative Battalion Chief), who will lead and manage fire prevention initiatives.  The Fire Marshal will have an opportunity to work on exciting projects, including managing the YouTube/Google facilities expansion and the anticipated redevelopment along the Transit Corridors Plan, for a revitalized commercial corridor around the City’s downtown area.  In addition to working with developers to ensure fire safety systems, the Fire Marshal will also aid consultants with the City’s new development impact fees, which will generate revenue for future Fire Department initiatives. This position works a 40-hour schedule or other work schedule as dictated by the needs of the Department.

Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Marshal manages fire prevention activities for the City of San Bruno.  These duties include, but are not limited to, managing effective fire prevention initiatives, implementing public education programs, administering the fire prevention budget, supervising a permit services center, managing the fire prevention records management system, coordinating code enforcement, overseeing review of building construction and fire protection system plans for conformance to fire and life safety standards, coordinating fire prevention training, and performing other duties as assigned. In addition to the assigned division, the Battalion Chief acts as a significant role model for the department through leading by example, supporting and implementing professional management standards, and actively taking part in grooming future leaders.

THE POSITION

Under supervision, an Airport Service Attendant performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks; performs inspections of airfield and facilities; performs office duties; responds to airport emergencies; assists the public; and performs other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Functions

DEFINITION

EDUCATION

Equivalent to a G.E.D. or a high school diploma.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Possession and maintenance of a valid California Class "C" license with Ambulance Driver Certificate issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
• Possession of a responsible driving record.
• Possession and maintenance of a Central California EMS Agency EMT-1 Accreditation.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid BLS Healthcare Provider Card.
• Current Medical Examiner's Card

DEFINITION

Provide the highest level of care, treatment, and transportation for all patients in an expedient and safe manner as specified by City of Sanger Fire Department and Central California Emergency Medical Services policy, procedures, processes, and protocols. This is part-time employment with no benefits. Incumbent must meet the minimum training and experience qualifications required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Incumbents perform the full range of paramedic duties under general supervision. Duties are performed under emergency conditions.

• Work with firefighters on daily maintenance projects under the supervision and direction of the on-duty Company Officer.
• Respond to medical-aid alarms, ambulance and public service calls.
