MAINTENANCE WORKER (Full time)

Working in the Public Works Department, the Maintenance Worker I/II will perform a variety of unskilled, semiskilled and skilled light and heavy duty construction, maintenance and repair work involving public works, sewer and drainage systems, buildings, parking meters, and other facilities.

SALARY RANGE:
Maintenance Worker I/II – $3,350.50 to $4,485.52 per month (wages effective 7/1/2024 per MOU).

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Maintenance Worker I:  This is the entry level class in the maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled maintenance tasks. Although trucks and other motorized equipment may be operated by a Maintenance Worker I, the equipment is used on a training basis or for tasks which are repetitious in nature. Under this training concept, positions assigned to the class of Maintenance Worker II which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the Maintenance Worker I level, with the understanding that reassignment to the Maintenance Worker II class may be expected following successful job performance and personal development.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level in the maintenance worker series. Positions assigned to this class are expected to perform semi‑skilled and skilled public works maintenance activities and to operate light and moderately heavy power‑driven equipment on a continuing basis. All positions allocated to this class require that an incumbent be able to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative to fulfill assigned tasks. Maintenance Workers II may also be expected to assist in the supervision and training of less experienced personnel.

• Perform a variety of maintenance work in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, parks, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, parking meters and other public facilities.
• Operate power‑driven equipment such as skip loaders, dump trucks, water trucks and fork lifts.
• Break out old concrete work such as curbs, sidewalks, and gutters.
• Cut and prepare streets for patches, spread premix and oil, and rake asphalt.
• Replace, repair, couple, test, and backfill sewer lines.
• Clean and maintain basic tools used on the job.
• Paint traffic directional markings, such as crosswalks and safety loading zones.
• Fabricate, install, repair and replace street signs.
• Operate heavy power‑driven equipment on a relief or training basis.
• Water, mow, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize grass and other landscaped areas.
• Rake leaves, clean walks, fields, courts, and other facilities.
• Spade and otherwise prepare ground around plants and shrubs, including mixing and applying fertilizers.
• Plant, trim and/or remove trees, flowers, and shrubs. 
• Load trimmings on trucks for disposal.
• Pick up rubbish and litter materials and perform general grounds cleaning.
• Operate power mowers, edgers, sewer rodders, and other hand-operated and power tools in the performance of maintenance and repair activities.
• Drive vehicles as required and assist in routine care and upkeep of such vehicles.
• Assist in moving and installing park and recreational equipment.
• Install, maintain, and repair sewer system mains, sprinkler systems, pipes and facilities.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair parking meter devices.

The Controller's Office maintains the County’s financial systems and records, and prepares independently audited, award-winning annual financial reports that disclose the financial condition of the County to the public. Distinguishing Characteristics

Payroll/Personnel Coordinator IV is the lead or specialist level class in the Payroll/Personnel Coordinator series. This level is distinguished from the Payroll/Personnel Coordinator III in that the former is assigned to larger County departments with 24/7 operations, various locations, programs, and shifts or in central Human Resources or Controller's Office. At this level, work requires the analysis of unusual circumstances, understanding and proper application of complex and multiple labor contract provisions and assessing a variety of approaches to finding solutions. Actions to be taken or responses to be made differ in such things as the source of information, the kind of transaction or scenario, the type of employee and his/her eligibility for labor contract provisions. Positions at central HR and Controller's Office provide lead, guidance, and instructions to other departmental Coordinators.

In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in Human Recourses and the Payroll System (Workday) and timekeeping system (Infor Workforce Management aka ATKS).

THE DEPARTMENT

The Information Systems and Technology Division is responsible for the City's network infrastructure, cybersecurity, Help Desk support, and daily IT operations. THE POSITION

Under general direction, the Senior Accountant performs and supervises professional accounting and auditing work of staff responsible for providing financial accounting and record-keeping in connection with general ledger, budget preparation, and budgetary control, purchasing activities, payroll; and performs a variety of professional accounting tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

The Organization

The City of Pacifica is a General Law City incorporated in 1957 and operates under the Council/Manager form of government. Legislative authority is vested in a five-member City Council elected by district for four-year overlapping terms. The Mayor is selected each year by a majority vote of the other Council members. THE DEPARTMENT

The Finance and Administrative Services Department provides high-quality support services to all City departments and the community, including Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Risk Management functions, and ensures compliance with City policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL AND IMPORTANT DUTIES

• Supervises and/or participates in various financial and accounting activities within the Finance Department, including posting, balancing, and reconciliation of General Ledger and subsidiary accounts and City bank accounts.
• Performs complex and difficult accounting work, including the related monitoring of personal deadlines and the deadlines of others to ensure adherence to quality and timely work products.
• Performs as a project manager for complex financial systems implementation and serves as a liaison to Finance staff and other departments in the implementation of all financial modules for the Financial Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Certification:

The Community: 

The Town of Hillsborough (pop. 11,574) is a residential community located in San Mateo County, midway between San Francisco and San Jose.  

Incorporated in 1910, the Town provides a full range of essential municipal services including police and fire protection, land use planning, building permitting and inspection, maintenance of roads, and water, sewer, and storm drainage infrastructures. The Town operates with a Council-Manager form of government with five elected Council Members. The Town is known for its rural charm and the academic excellence of the public and private schools. The Organization: 

The Town is a general law city operating with a Council-Manager form of government. Policy-making and legislative authority are vested in the governing City Council which consists of a Mayor, a Vice Mayor, and three Councilmembers. Council members are elected to overlapping four-year terms in even-numbered years and the members select the Mayor and Vice Mayor annually. Among other things, the City Council is responsible for passing ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committee and board members, and hiring the City Manager and the City Attorney (on contract). The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, overseeing the day-to-day operations, and appointing department heads. The Town’s Fiscal Year 2024-25 Adopted Budget is $75.9 million with a General Fund Reserve of $30.7 million. The Town’s staff of 99 FTEs support the residents through the five departments: City Manager’s Office, Finance, Police, Building & Planning, and Public Works. 

The Department: 

The Finance Department is responsible for the overall financial management of the Town. The Department’s core mission is to maintain a sound and secure financial position by providing administrative and technical support to the Town’s management, City Council, staff, and the public. The Finance Department provides support services to the Town departments and citizens.  Support services include budgeting, accounting and financial reporting, treasury, and revenue management, purchasing and accounts payable, payroll, debt management, financial analysis, and other administrative functions.  Services provided to customers include water, sewer and storm drain utility billing and customer support, alarm billing, business licensing, Town main phone line reception and other services.
