Salary Information
The salary range for Maintenance Worker II is $64,604.80- $78,582.40.
Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.The Department of Public Works is seeking to fill a Maintenance Worker I position in the HVAC Shop located at the Central Service Yard within the Facilities Management Division. The Maintenance Worker I will support the basic preventative maintenance of the air conditioning work group. This position reports directly to the Air Conditioning Supervisor for various daily assignments. Working under immediate supervision and working with HVAC Staff and/or independently in mechanical rooms and on rooftops would be a regular occurrence.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

• Performs preventive maintenance functions on Exhaust Fans, HVAC Package units and Air Handlers.
• Clean HVAC Cooling Towers and Mechanical Rooms.
• Install V-belts on HVAC Equipment.
• Uses general carpentry, mechanical and hand tools such as power saws, hand saws, drills, pliers, wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, ladders and other tools and equipment.
• Installs air filters in various types of air conditioning equipment.
• Cleans aluminum finned condenser and evaporator coils.
• Performs minor semi-skilled carpentry and plumbing repair work.
• Maintains database records of their daily work with the Departments inventory management system.

This position may require working some weekends and/or holidays. Ability to perform the essential functions of this position will be determined by a post-offer medical examination conducted by City of San Jose Employee Health Services.

The HVAC SHOP maintains all City-Wide Facilities, including Police Buildings. The San Jose Police Department requires all civilians working at their facilities pass a background check and obtain a Civilian Police Badge. The Maintenance Worker I candidate will be expected to apply for and successfully pass the Police Department background check, to successfully pass their probationary period.

The City of East Palo Alto is seeking qualified candidates for a Building Inspector I/II. Under direct or general supervision, the Building Inspector I/II performs routine to complex inspections at various stages of construction, alterations, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to enforce building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and environmental codes, and other governing laws and ordinances. We have exciting internship opportunities available at the City of Millbrae’s Public Works Department.  The Public Works Department is looking to hire two (2) interns for the Engineering Division. This is an open-ended internship without a specific term. The working schedule is to be determined based on business needs and candidate availability, and no more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office environment in close proximity to other workers.  Incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in a business office environment.  Physical demands require frequent standing, reaching, leaning, twisting, grasping, lifting and sitting for prolonged periods of time.  Must carry moderately heavy boxes up to 50 pounds and/or utilize a dolly.  Incumbent must be able to drive safely to various City sites.  Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction.  Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and be willing to work an irregular schedule, which might include evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying hours.

THE POSITION

Perform professional civil engineering work in the planning, design, technical investigation, and construction of projects in public works, transportation, capital improvements, and structural engineering. An example of duties include:

• Participates in the preparation of plans and specifications for the construction of streets, storm drains, street lighting, traffic signals, buildings and related public works and City building projects; researches project design requirements; performs calculations and prepares estimates of material costs and time considerations.
• Researches publications and industry information sources.
• Develops and revises design and construction standards.
• Participates in the implementation of the City’s traffic and transportation engineering programs; prepares and revises plans and specifications for traffic related projects; prepares special studies and reports and coordinates major projects.
• Investigates field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in civil engineering or a closely related field;

Possession of a current Engineer-in-Training Certificate, issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, and one (1) year of professional civil engineering experience.

In addition to the typical duties of a Sr. Facilities Repair Worker, the successful candidate will interact a n d compassionately communicate with interim housing tenants and pe ople in vulnerable housing situations . The position requires flexibility and adaptability to : respond to afterhours alarms , navigate exposure to situations and issues surrounding unhoused, and make decisions in stressful or ambiguous situations. The position may also oversee other Facility Repairs Workers in their day-to-day tasks and special projects. Other duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Leads, repairs, and maintains water faucets, urinal valves, commode valves, shower heads, minor pipe leaks, and various other water control valves.
• Leads and performs minor repair on buildings caused by vandalism and normal wear, including patching, full area painting and spot painting, floor tile repair and replacement, glass replacement, door adjustments, wall panel replacement, and wood trim replacement.
• Leads and performs minor repairs and maintains PTA C AC units .
• Leads, repairs, and maintains equipment, including generators and power tools.

• Schedules and manages contractor activities and reviews and approves payments.
• Prepares work orders for major repair and alterations and monitors progress and completion of projects.
• Prepares reports on materials, labor, and cost on damage caused by users in order to recover cost.
• Maintains records of repair equipment.
• Maintains records of work and projects in a work order system database.
