We are seeking energetic, creative, organized program professionals to advance our environmental goals by engaging the community and designing responsive programs.

We are currently recruiting for the following Environmental Program Specialist positions:

Regulatory Programs Division: Implement Watershed stewardship programs focused on pollution prevention practices for stormwater and wastewater management.

*Regulatory Programs Division: Implement Sustainability programs (e.g. building or transportation electrification) including policy development, program design and implementation, and community engagement.

*Solid Waste Division: Implement Zero Waste programs including SB1383 compliance, waste management technical assistance, outreach and enforcement for multi-family dwelling and commercial businesses.

*Water and Sewer Division: Implement Water Conservation programs to support “Water Conservation as a Way of Life.”

*These are new positions included in the recommended budget for FY 2024-25, which will be considered by the Sunnyvale City Council on June 18, 2024.

The eligibility list from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies in the classification.

All positions are responsible for developing, planning, and implementing environmental programs, and are expected to become knowledgeable about all of the Department’s service areas, regardless of which division they are assigned to. Salary: $43.23 - $55.17 Hourly

The city of Santa Clara Water & Sewer Utilities serves the City of Santa Clara, California. The Position: 

The City of Santa Clara Water and Sewer department has an opportunity for a position of As Needed Engineering Aide. Job responsibilities include, prepares scaled and dimensioned plans based on sketches prepared by engineering personnel, maintains records of as-builts and updates existing Utility maps and records utilizing ESRI-based GIS applications, Maintains master map files, including such records of block maps, sewer and water infrastructure maps, and other maps, Performs computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD, involved in checking drawings of utility facilities, perform other duties as assigned.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate of Arts degree or higher in engineering, computer information systems, or its equivalent, including satisfactory completion of college level courses in writing, mathematics, engineering and related courses.

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

One (1) year working with geographic information system (GIS) tools and systems and/or

One (1) year working with computer-aided drafting (AUTOCAD).

License/Certifications:

Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and/or Database Management Systems.

• Routine to moderately complex tasks to assist/support the Water and Sewer department in data collection, maintenance, and updates.
• Assisting the Engineering department in managing and maintaining As-Builts and ensuring they are reflected across all relevant repositories.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of activities in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems and related equipment within City facilities; performs related work as required. An example of duties are:

• Performs daily inspection and preventive maintenance of the City’s irrigation systems; identifies any safety or repair issues.
• Installs, maintains and repairs irrigation systems; changes and adjusts sprinkler heads and maintains controllers; performs repairs on field irrigation computers, controllers, pumps, wiring, valves, pipes, and sprinklers.
• Monitors soil moisture and effectiveness of irrigation systems.
• Installs backflow devices; inspects and tests as necessary to ensure proper operation; certifies devices in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitors and controls computerized irrigation systems.
• Works effectively with contractors on City-approved irrigation projects; seeks bids and/or estimates for proposed projects.
• Identifies, schedules, and supervises system repairs and installation of new irrigation systems; reviews plans and inspects installation of new irrigation systems; performs annual testing of systems.
• Performs Underground Service Alert (USA) markings as specified and according to accepted guidelines and requirements.
• Designs small irrigation systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade

          AND

Two (2) years of responsible landscape/irrigation, public works or parks maintenance experience, including experience in design and/or maintenance of irrigation systems

License Requirements:

Inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with NPDES Phase II requirements. Issue discharge permits for new and existing businesses regulated under the Pollution Prevention Program. Regular and consistent attendance.  Work weekends and holidays as assigned. 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses.  Serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency call-outs.  Keep detailed records of Pollution Prevention Program activities. Assist with public education and outreach activities to permitted businesses and residential customers. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Environmental Compliance Inspector I:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field is highly desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in working with mechanical equipment and basic water or wastewater chemical and bacteriological processes is desirable.

License or Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's license.  A Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by California Water Environment Association is required within 12 months.

Environmental Compliance Inspector II:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in the operation of a Pretreatment program. One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and/or related facilities or programs is desirable.

Licenses and Certificates: Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association required upon hire. Must obtain a Grade II Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within 12 months of appointment.

To collect and examine water, wastewater, stormwater and related materials.  Performs a variety of standardized and complex tests and analysis of such samples. Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment, prepares glassware, mixes reagents and media. Prepares reports, performs special studies, analyzes results and works with a variety of outside labs.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Water Pollution Control Facility, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid certificates.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will have previous experience working in a laboratory or related position.  Candidate will be familiar with the principles and practices necessary in the operation of a Water Pollution Control Facility and have completed previous coursework in chemistry, microbiology, mathematics and other relevant fields.  The Ideal Candidate will be organized, flexible, hardworking, and have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Candidate will be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills, have the ability to maintain accurate records, be a cooperative team player, and bring a positive, professional attitude to workplace.

Laboratory Technician I:

This is the entry-level classification in the flexibly staffed Laboratory (Lab) Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the Lab Technician II level by providing a narrower range of duties, usually of a less complex nature in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents learn and perform a variety of clearly defined duties involved with cleaning and maintaining laboratory material and equipment and performing routine testing and analysis in the laboratory. Laboratory Technician II provides lead supervision and training as needed to the Laboratory Technician I.

Laboratory Technician II:

This is the journey level classification of Lab Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the entry level by performing complex testing and analysis in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents are thoroughly familiar of defined duties involved with calibrating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment.  Provides lead direction to Lab Technician I in addition to performing NPDES required analyses in the laboratory and the more complex laboratory analysis. The Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager provides direct supervision. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Laboratory Technician I - Collects and prepares water, wastewater, receiving waters and related samples for analysis.  Conducts standard physical, chemical and biological analysis of such samples.  Makes mathematical calculations and statistical analysis for test results.  Prepares and maintains a variety of logs, records and reports related to the work performed.  Performs complex sampling techniques.  Prepares lab supply and equipment order lists.  Regular and consistent attendance.

Laboratory Technician II – All of the essential functions listed above and:  Prepares standardized reagents and media used in laboratory analysis.  Samples, schedules and ships samples to outside laboratories.  Performs analysis on quality assurance samples for compliance with State Health Department to maintain laboratory certification.  Participates in the laboratory quality assurance program by reviewing and verifying records and reports for the NPDES permit requirements.  Schedules laboratory and maintenance work, ordering of materials, and maintains records as directed by the Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager.  Ensure proper maintenance and repair work on all laboratory equipment.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans and prepares laboratory equipment and glassware.  Maintains laboratory in a clean and orderly condition.  Observes safe work methods, practices and precautions; uses appropriate safety devices and equipment in accordance to laboratory standard operating procedures.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:  One (1) year experience in a laboratory or related position is desirable.

Experience:  Two (2) years of general laboratory experience is preferred.
License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of all certifications required for the Laboratory Technician I and possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade II Laboratory Analyst certificate within eighteen (18) months.  Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate is desirable.

THE POSITIONS

The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill one (1) Mechanic vacancy and one (1) Senior Mechanic vacancy in the Fleet Services Section of the Maintenance Division.

Mechanics at all levels perform maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and perform other duties as assigned.

The Mechanic is a journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures.

The Senior Mechanic is an advanced journey and lead level position classification in the Mechanic series and may be distinguished from those in the Mechanic class by the broader range of responsibilities and leading a crew. Senior Mechanics provide lead direction and training to section staff.

We are seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the City of Live Oak as a Part-Time Recreation Leader. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading recreational activities for community members of all ages. The ideal candidate will have a passion for promoting physical activity, creativity, and teamwork in a fun and safe environment.

Part-Time: Up to 20 hours a week 

Responsibilities:

• Plan and execute recreational programs and activities, such as sports, arts and crafts, games, and special events.
• Create engaging and inclusive environments that encourage participation and social interaction.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by adhering to established guidelines and protocols.
• Maintain equipment and supplies, and assist with facility setup and cleanup as needed.
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff, and community members.
• Collaborate with team members to develop new program ideas and initiatives.

THE POSITION

Under direction of the City Engineer or Assistant City Engineer, a Senior Civil Engineer supervises field and office work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure; manages land development processes; manages and performs engineering analysis; implements programs and administers projects; may supervise a major section in the Engineering Division; and performs other duties as assigned. The Senior Civil Engineer performs and supervises the most complex engineering assignments.

This Senior Civil Engineer position will manage capital projects and may also oversee some development projects.  Examples of projects include:

• Arroyo Trail T 13, 1.5 miles paved trail through Wente Vineyard and LARPD Sycamore Grove properties and includes a 100’ pedestrian bridge.
• Arroyo Las Positas Creek channel widening, flood walls and Airway Blvd Culvert Replacement adjacent to Las Positas Golf course and Livermore Municipal Airport.
• Bridge Preventive Maintenance Program for 19 city bridges
• Manage other city asset programs such as pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk, ADA ramps.
