THE POSITION

Assistant and Associate Engineering Technicians perform office and field engineering functions in connection with public works activities. The current vacancy is assigned to Construction Inspection and will perform field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection; and inspects grading, underground utilities, City water mains, sewers, storm drains, curbs, gutters, paving, irrigation systems, streetlights, and other infrastructure construction for conformance with regulatory standards, plans, and specifications. Examples of duties and responsibilities may include:

• Performs field inspections of public works projects, developments, and activities requiring permits and inspection

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Public Works Department is composed of a Director and 11 full-time management staff with a 26 million dollar operating budget.  The department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering, and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions.  The Maintenance Division oversees 127 miles of streets which includes asphalt, concrete, over 12,000 road signs, street markings, 70 signalized intersections, 164 miles of sewers, 125 miles of storm drains, 3857 street lights, 5 lift stations, and various miscellaneous tasks.

THE POSITION

Under general direction, this Supervisor will perform responsible professional and technical work in promoting, organizing, and supervising a comprehensive maintenance program within the Public Works Department and will organize, schedule, and supervise the work of employees engaged in work; and does related work as assigned.

This multi-position middle management level classification performs work in several functional areas and is distinguished by its core responsibility for supervising employees, programs and activities within the Public Works or Parks and Recreation Department. This recruitment is for a Supervisor in the Public Works Department's Fleet Services.  The work is performed under general direction and incumbents may provide support for inter-divisional programs and functions. This classification has full supervisory responsibility for staff at different locations and has full administrative and fiscal responsibility for specific programs and/or projects.  Incumbents perform professional level activities and have considerable latitude for independent decision making in choosing methods of developing and implementing approved procedures.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability listed below is qualifying.
