The City of Dixon is recruiting to fill a full-time position of a Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works Streets Division and to establish an Eligibility List for future use. 

Essential Job Functions When Assigned to Streets: Performs semi-skilled and skilled repair and maintenance tasks involving traffic painting, traffic sign installation and maintenance and the installation of reflectors; performs minor street asphalting, patching and sealing; performs cement work on sidewalks, curbs and gutters; performs weed spraying, tree and bush trimming; performs graffiti removal. Positions operate backhoe for preparing grades and trenching and operate other equipment including, but not limited to, paint sprayer and striper, tractor, scraper, rototiller, chain saw, weed eater, mower, air compressor, paving machine, sand blaster, and emulsion sprayer.

Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series and positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience.

Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties.

MAINTENANCE WORKER I / INTERN
TEMPORARY / PART-TIME

Current Salary: $17.00 - $29.45 per hour

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, water meters, sewers, storm drains, pump stations and tree maintenance. 

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern.  Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position should have previous Road Maintenance experience; sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, and gutters, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, arrive on time, have good attendance, a positive attitude, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and a willingness to take on and learn new skills. Possessing a Class B commercial Driver’s license is desired, though not required upon hire.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, rubber-tired and steel rollers, rubber-tired tractor with all attachments (except backhoe attachment), striping equipment, and trencher to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.  Use concrete cutting equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.  Paint and install traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck; manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.  Install and remove traffic control barricades and cones.  Assist in a variety of tree maintenance activities including low limb, stump routing, tree watering, and tree planting.  Utilize proper safety precautions and comply with policies and procedures in the Department Illness and Injury Prevention Program.  Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to inquiries from the general public.  Clean storm grates and drains.  Perform work in emergency situations as required.  Perform minor and preventive maintenance on paint spraying equipment, compressors, sprayers, compactors, and other construction equipment.  Work cooperatively with others.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.  

Experience: One (1) year of work experience in construction or related field.  

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License required upon hire.

BENEFITS

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  With the exception of worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits compensations are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.

This position is Temporary / Part-Time, working no more than 130 hours per month and no more than 960 hours per Fiscal Year.

Senior Civil & Environmental Engineer
Salary Range: $95,900/yr. - $189,900/yr. (Budgeted salary range $95,900/yr. - $142,900/yr.)

Use advanced engineering concepts and organizational objectives to provide leadership and support focused on engineering, project management, and compliance for the Facilities Management: Utilities department. Work with individual Utilities system managers to evaluate system performance and provide technical leadership for deferred maintenance and capital improvement projects. Conduct master planning for future capacity needs. Conduct system assessments to improve the design of physical plant systems. Lead civil system compliance efforts. Regularly work on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum License/Certification:

• Current registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.

Minimum Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited program, preferably in one of the following disciplines: Civil or Environmental.
• Over ten years of experience in engineering design, master planning, plan review, project administration and facility operation in storm, water, water reuse, sanitary sewer and solid waste systems.
• Extensive experience with interpreting regulations, permitting, and regulatory compliance for water, wastewater, and solid waste operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:  

• Experience with Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budgeting and with developing sewer, water and treatment plant master plan documents and condition assessments.
• Experience with water and wastewater system maintenance; understanding of Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS) principles.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

• Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with excellent customer service skills; ability to readily assess complex challenges and barriers and recommend effective resolutions.
• Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
• Advanced project management skills needed to assume responsibility for both high quality and timely accomplishment of design and construction projects.
• Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and influence others.
