The Sacramento Public Library's Tsakopoulos Library Galleria is seeking candidates to fill several on-call Event Duty positions.  This position works as needed, based on events scheduled in the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria.   The Tsakopoulos Library Galleria is attached to the Sacramento Public Library's Central library (downtown) located at 828 I Street in Sacramento.

If you have at least six (6) months of experience overseeing various functions of events for a banquet, conference or other public use facility, we encourage you to apply!

The ideal candidate has excellent customer skills and experience managing events, such as weddings, proms, professional meetings, job fairs, trade shows, etc.  He/she must have the ability to interact tactfully with clients, vendors and prospects; must be able to effectively enforce health, safety and other facility policies and regulations; is adept at Microsoft Office products and is familiar with a variety of audio/visual equipment.

BASIC FUNCTION
Set- up, monitor and break down events in the Tsakopoulos Library Galleria.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
(Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.)
•Set up furniture, microphones, conference phones; etc.;
•Put out signage;
•Greet clients,
•Connect lap-tops to projectors;
•Coordinate vendor set ups;
•Re-stock paper products in restrooms;
•Ensure vendors and clients are complying with Galleria policies;
•Assist at the end of the events with stacking chairs and putting chair covers on, setting out additional tables & chairs;
•Take notes during the events;
•Ensure caterers clean their areas and remove garbage;
•Secure the Galleria and library at the end of events;
•Respond quickly to emails and send follow-up reports, and
•Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Knowledge of:
1.Basic principles and techniques in overseeing a variety of events,;
 
Ability to:
1.Work cooperatively with others;
2.Work with vendors during event;
3.Operate a variety of audiovisual equipment, identifying event problems and handling them efficiently;
4.Communicate Galleria policies and procedures to existing and prospective clients;
5.Understand and follow oral and written instructions;
6.Ability to work independently;
7.Resolve conflicts with tact and diplomacy;
8.Read, write and communicate in English.

EXPERIENCE
 Six months experience overseeing various event functions for a banquet hall, conference center, or other public use facility.

Other
The hours will vary between less than 10 to 40 hours in a two week pay period and are not guaranteed. This is limited to on-call assignments that do not exceed 1040 hours per year.

The on call position is scheduled a month at a time but is adjusted accordingly as events are booked and/or cancelled.  The position requires flexibility events begin as early as 7 AM and end as late as midnight. Events are scheduled seven days per week.

Note:  Successful candidates must be willing to work twenty-four (24) hour shifts assignments on a 48/96 FLSA 7K exempt schedule.  Overtime and/or part-time work may be assigned to meet the needs of the City.

Definition:  Under supervision, perform a full range of firefighting duties in the suppression of structural, wild land and other types of fires; and administer basic and advanced life support treatment to, and transport, sick or injured persons in the pre-hospital setting as authorized by the local EMS Agency Medical Director.

Essential Duties of the Position:

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents and assist with mitigation by confining, controlling and extinguishing fire, conduction rescue, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, and cleanup as required.
• Provide advance life support pre-hospital treatment to the sick and injured as a paramedic.
• Inspect, test, evaluate, maintain, minor repair and operate the City apparatus and equipment.
• Drive and operate emergency equipment in a safe manner.
• Provide for safety of the City personnel and civilians.
• Produce and maintain written reports, documents and records.
• Maintain and update the City apparatus, equipment, vehicle equipment, tools and stations.
• Maintain a state of readiness of self and City personnel and equipment.
• Maintain a state of good physical and emotional fitness as required to complete essential job functions.
• Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the City of Carmel by-the-Sea and follow chain of command.
• Ability to work 24 hour shifts or greater.
• Maintain knowledge of the geography of the relevant areas.
• Deal effectively and professionally with those contacted in the course of work.
• Communicate in a clear and concise manner both written and verbally.
• Be responsible for following intra-departmental personnel policies.
• Carry out routine station activities in a timely manner.
• Meet and maintain the City’s medical requirements as set forth in NFPA 1582, current edition and interpreted by the City’s medical physician.

Licenses, Certifications and Accreditations:

• Must possess a valid class “C” California Driver’s License with Ambulance Drivers Certificate and have an acceptable driving record at time of application and approved by the City’s insurance carrier.
• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency required at time of application.
• ICS 100, 200, IS 700.A, IS 800.B, Hazardous Materials Operations level certification within one year from the date of employment.
• S-130, S-190 and S-134, 67 hour Cal Fire Wildland Fire training certificate, California State Fire Marshal or NWCG approved, to be completed within one year from date of appointment.
• One (1) year experience as a full-time firefighter or two years as a volunteer/paid-call part-time firefighter at time of appointment.
• Firefighter 1 Certification or completion of a Firefighter 1 Academy with the ability to apply for Firefighter 1 Certification as defined by the State of California at time of application.
• Prefer a minimum of one (1) year full-time employment experience as a practicing Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic at time of appointment.
• CPR-AHA Healthcare Provider (Must possess at time of application and maintained throughout the duration of employment.)
• California State Paramedic License (Must possess at time of application and maintained throughout the duration of employment.)
• Advanced Cardia Life Support Certification (Must possess at time of application and maintained throughout the duration of employment.)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (Must possess at time of application and maintained throughout the duration of employment.)
• Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Certification or Basic Trauma Life Support Certification (Must possess at time of application and maintained throughout the duration of employment.)
• Accredited as a Paramedic with the Monterey County EMS Authority (Must possess at time of application and maintained throughout the duration of employment.)

Medical and Physical Requirements:

Must meet physical demands of the essential duties at the minimum of the following while wearing structural protective clothing, including gloves, helmet and breathing apparatus or appropriate PPE:

• Strength-dragging up to 150 pounds alone
• Pushing and pulling up to 150 pounds alone
• Carrying up to 100 pounds with one other person
• Lifting up to 50 pounds alone
• Deploying and climbing a 35-foot ladder
• Running up to a quarter mile, walking up to two (2) miles, standing up to three (3) hours
• Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching and handling will all be required.

A valid CPAT Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of appointment.

Selection Process: A limited number of applicants who show that they meet the needs of this position in terms of training, experience, education and other job-related characteristics will be accepted to participate in the selection process.  Preference will be given to applicants with the required certifications and licenses and/or prior Fire/Ambulance service experience with the Carmel Regional Fire Ambulance Authority JPA. The process will include evaluation and initial screening of the standard application and resume will determine which candidates progress to the next phase.  The selection process may include written/performance tests, panel review and a final departmental interview.

Appointments: Prior to appointment, all candidates must successfully complete a background investigation, medical examination, drug and alcohol screening test, psychological exam and a CPS testing exam.  Conditional offers of employment will be based upon the results of the pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.  The City of Carmel-by-the-Seas reserves the right to use alternate testing procedures if deemed necessary. Appointments are normally made at the first salary step.

The Program Coordinator - Facilities will assist with the timely processing of rental applications and the smooth operation of facility rentals. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, and event management expertise. EXAMPLES ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Program Coordinator may have a specific focus in a program area or area(s), including, but not limited to facility management.
• Facilitates recreation activities, specifically enrichment, for specific youth age groups with part-time staff, independent contractors, and volunteers (groups and individuals).
• Organizes, implements, directs, supervises and/or promotes specific programs, activities and special events.
• Implements the Recreation Department’s programming at off and on-site locations and develops new programming and curriculum in partnership with the community. 
• Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget.
• Works with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents and community members in developing and providing programs and activities through rentals.
• Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Creates flyers, brochures, and other materials related to programs and events, as directed.
• Provides customer service to applicants, participants, and the general public.
• Monitors the day-to-day operations of the rentals, programs, and special events, including handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required setups, materials and supplies.
• Assists in the evaluation of programming including conducting customer satisfaction surveys and analyzing reports on rental program effectiveness.
• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes.

*Please note that this is a part-time permanent position (25 hours a week or .625 FTE). The salary listed above is the .625 FTE equivalent salary. Benefits are prorated accordingly as well. Additional part-time hours may be agreed upon with the Director of Recreation filling an additional role/position but benefits will continue to be calculated at the .625 FTE proration.

The Position

The Utility and Street Maintenance Superintendent is a management level position in the Public Works Department that reports to the Assistant Public Works Director, or designee.  The individual is responsible for direct and indirect supervision of the utility and maintenance staff.  Areas of responsibility include building maintenance, street maintenance, infrastructure, water distribution and wastewater collection systems. 

Essential Functions

• Responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating, the work activities of operations staff; responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair and/or operation of streets, storm drains, streetlights and signals, sidewalks, and the water distribution and wastewater collection systems;
• Develops policies & procedures and makes recommendations for projects and programs; develops and maintains short and long-range maintenance schedules for assigned areas of responsibility; 
• Participates in the selection, training and evaluation of assigned personnel; initiates disciplinary procedures as is appropriate;
• Prepares technical and/or analytical reports on operations as necessary; participates in budget preparation; administers and monitors approved budgets; reviews and monitors purchase orders; participates in the equipment procurement process; monitors and controls supplies and equipment;
• Assists in the preparation of the Department's Capital Improvement Program; develops and completes annual street slurry seal and street maintenance programs; develops and implements annual curb, gutter, and sidewalk replacement program;
• Responds to the more difficult questions and concerns from the general public, contractors, vendors, and outside agencies; provides information as appropriate and resolves public service or operational complaints;
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the functions of a Utility and Maintenance Superintendent.  A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of:

• Possess the equivalent of four years of increasingly responsible experience in public works, parks or facilities maintenance, construction, and/or contract administration, including three years as a lead worker or supervisor of maintenance activity, and a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Construction Management, or related field.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

• Work independently and able to take initiative
• Strong management skills
• Ability to multi-task

Parks Maintenance Assistant

(Part Time 28 hours per week)

$17.50-$21.27 per hour

Under immediate supervision, part-time maintenance assistants performs unskilled and semiskilled tasks in the maintenance of parks and landscapes, trees, medians, facilities, streets, storm drains, water, electrical and other related duties as assigned.

This is a part-time, seasonal position with the Parks Maintenance Division and provides assistance to either the Parks and or Facilities Maintenance. It is distinguished from the Parks or Streets Maintenance Worker I positions as there are no special license requirements and it is not a flexibly staffed position.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in the maintenance tasks associated with the care of grounds, landscaping, trees, facilities, parking areas, streets, water, storm drains and electrical utilities.
• Cleans and removes debris and litter from parks, restrooms, landscapes, facilities, parking lots, streets, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, drainage ditches, sidewalks, and street construction sites by shoveling, raking, sweeping, and picking up debris.
• Operates vehicles, equipment and power tools necessary to complete maintenance for the above assigned areas. If properly licensed may drive large two axle trucks as directed.
• Assists in digging holes and trenching for irrigation repairs and installation.
• Assist in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
• Sets up traffic control including signs and barricades, and directs traffic or acts as flag person to direct traffic around work sites.
• Helps repair and maintain fences, playground equipment, gates, doors, roofs, walks and walkways, sidewalks and gutters using hammer, saws, paint brushes and appropriate hand tools, spade, pick, hoe, shovels, tamper and jack hammer as directed.
• Assists with custodial duties throughout city facilities as needed. Duties may include restroom cleaning, emptying garbage, recycle, and compost receptacles, setting up for special events, mopping, vacuuming, floor finishing, window cleaning, etc.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of functions, characteristics and proper use and care of common hand tools and safe work practices.

Ability to be trained in the use of supplies, tools and equipment used in in the work areas as described above in a variety of weather conditions; basic skills in following simple oral and written instructions; skills in performing manual work, lifting heavy objects up to 50 pounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other persons.

Applicants should have the ability to read, write and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships and work outdoors. The applicants must posses a valid California Drivers License and have a good driving record (recent DMV printout required).

The City of Salinas is accepting applications for Public Service Maintenance Worker I. The current vacancy is in the Street Maintenance Division.

TENTATIVE RECRUITMENT SCHEDULE (subject to change):

Week of April 1, 2019 – Exam process

DEFINITION: Under immediate supervision, to perform a variety of semi‑skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, sewers, storm drains, pump stations, or traffic systems. 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is the entry-level class in the Public Service Maintenance Worker class series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Maintenance Workers II but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent direction and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.  Work is directly supervised while in progress and fits a structured and established pattern.  Generally, changes in procedures or exceptions are explained in detail as they arise.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:  Receives direct supervision from higher-level maintenance personnel.  Technical or functional supervision is also provided by higher-level maintenance personnel.  New employees typically receive immediate supervision progressing to general supervision with training and experience.  Exercises no supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: Duties may include, but are not limited, to the following: Perform street maintenance duties; operate construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, sweepers, skip loaders and paving and grinding equipment for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks, gutters, sewer lines, and drainage channels. Use concrete cutting and breaking equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete, construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.  Apply traffic markings on streets, cross walks, parking lots and curbs.  Manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.  Design and manufacture special signs for municipal facilities.  Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets. Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned.  Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.  Maintain inventory of traffic safety related supplies.  Place and remove traffic safety devices and barricades as needed.  Perform emergency and non‑emergency duties related public infrastructure maintenance work as required.  Apply herbicides in accordance with approved safety procedures.  Participate in and perform confined space entries.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of:  Uses and purposes of general construction tools and equipment. Safe work practices. Ability to:  Perform unskilled and semi‑skilled tasks in a variety of construction and maintenance activities.  Perform heavy manual labor.  Understand and carry out oral and written directions.  Maintain cooperative working relationships with others.  Promote the mission, values, and standards of an effective organization, particularly in the area of customer service.  Obtain a Class “B” or Class “A” Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements, as required, within six (6) months of appointment. Skills to:  Perform a variety of construction tasks including asphalt and concrete work and rough carpentry. Operate vehicles, equipment, and tools.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Physical mobility and stamina to stand and walk for long periods of time, and to walk over uneven surfaces. Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, climb, stoop and reach overhead. Physical strength to lift up to 90 pounds with assistance. Manual dexterity requiring repetitive motion sufficient to use hand and power tools.  Hearing and speaking ability sufficient to converse over the telephone, two-way radio and in person often over the noise of machinery and traffic, to detect and describe noises in machinery or to hear running water. Vision sufficient to read fine printed materials on labels, manuals, maps, diagrams, to work with color-coded wires with no color deficiencies, and to drive. Safely wear self-contained breathing apparatus; and safely work in confined spaces.  Detect odors. Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Perform heavy manual labor for periods up to but not limited to 8 hours per day. Willingness and ability to work under adverse conditions such as in confined and awkward spaces, in and around raw and treated wastewater, in heavy traffic, and in potentially hazardous areas.  Work outdoors under adverse conditions at night, in heat, wind, cold and rain.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Class “C” Driver's License.  Obtain a Class “B” or Class “A” Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements, as required, within six (6) months of appointment.

Education and Experience:  An example of the education and experience which most likely demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties would be any combination equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and one year of performing paving and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks, gutters, sewer lines, and drainage channels.

SELECTION PROCESS: Applicants’ qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of the information provided on the employment application. The exam process may consist of an application appraisal, oral interview, performance exam and/or written exam. The City reserves the right to use alternate testing procedures if deemed necessary. The Maintenance Division provides many of the basic services that affect the daily lives of everyone who lives, works, visits and commutes within the City. The Maintenance Division provides support to all City departments and provides service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to address emergencies during non-working hours. The Maintenance Division is responsible for the following five programs; Trees, Parks, Streets, Fleet and Water. The Maintenance Division is located in the City's Corporation Yard.

THE POSITION
To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, sewers, storm drains, and pump stations.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid licenses/certificates.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill multiple Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II positions in the Public Works Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division.  The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone who has a good understanding of all aspects of underground sewer/stormwater maintenance and repairs, and is familiar with the operation of light and heavy equipment.  This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.  Candidate must be able to follow direction and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor.  Current and valid collections certifications and Class A/B commercial driver’s license are a plus.

Utilities Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level class in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. The Utilities Maintenance Worker I may often perform many of the duties required of Utilities Maintenance Workers II but is not expected to have the depth of experience, skill level and certifications of the Utilities Maintenance Worker II. As a result, the Utilities Maintenance Worker I will have fewer opportunities to exercise independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Utilities Maintenance Worker II: This is the Journey level in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Utilities Maintenance Worker I in that incumbents perform more complex maintenance duties including working independently, exercising judgment, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The Utilities Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or by candidates with prior work experience elsewhere.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, steel rollers, High Velocity Vacuum Cleaner, mole trencher, and rubber-tired tractor with all attachments in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations. Operate fork lift as assigned and trained. Perform general maintenance and repair on storm and wastewater collection facilities including installation, testing, and backfill of service laterals. Within the sewer and stormwater collections division, employees will be expected to use the Closed Circuit Television Truck, sewer cable machine, flush sewer laterals and mains, assist in sewer tap installations, clean storm drain lines and catch basins.  All Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II will operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates, utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work and comply with the policies and procedures in the department Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that employee must be present to work on facilities and equipment impacting the public’s health and safety.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to inquires from the general public. Prepare as built sketches, when required to convey information to engineering for graphic documentation. Check water meters for proper operation; troubleshoot registers and repair. Initiate and discontinue water service to customer accounts as directed. Operate telemetering and flow monitoring equipment. Work cooperatively with others. Perform related duties as assigned. Both Assignments will require employees to be “On Call” as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Utilities Maintenance Worker I:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in, or graduation from, the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience: One (1) year of experience in construction or related field.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State Drinking Water Operator Certification Program (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade I Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association prior to permanent appointment. A Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program certificate issued by the National Association of Sewer System Companies (NASSCO) is desirable.  Requires possession of a valid California Driver's License. A Class B Driver’s permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three (3) months of hire. Prior to permanent appointment employee must obtain a valid Class B Driver's License, a Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR certifications, Competent Person certification, and Confined Space certification.

Utilities Maintenance Worker II:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in, or graduation from, the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience: One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Utilities Maintenance Worker I.

License and Certificate: Requires possession of a California State (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade II Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association upon hire. Requires all of the certifications necessary for a Utilities Maintenance Worker I and possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License with Tank and Air Brake Endorsement upon hire.
