The City of San Bruno is searching for an experienced and self-motivated Facilities & Garage Services Manager to ensure that the City’s facilities and fleet are timely maintained and managed with an excellent level of service. The Manager with a team of eight, one supervisor, two maintenance technicians, one custodial lead and four custodians, manages the maintenance and repair of all 17 City facilities as well as coordinating and providing support and project management for maintenance, remodeling and repair projects of City facilities.
In addition, working with a Garage team of two experienced mechanics, the Facilities & Garage Manager coordinates the management of the City’s fleet of 146 vehicles and all related assets, including all fueling systems. The Facilities & Garage Services Manager is a hard-working and dedicated individual with experience and ability to coordinate and provide expert guidance and direct support to assure that vehicles are maintained properly and vehicle replacement programs and fleet selection conform to established City policy and procedure.
This position upholds management best practices, develops and mentors the teams, adheres to labor and safety guidelines, ensures compliance with policy and procedures and establishes clear expectations in a manner that upholds the values of the City. They will also manage the capital improvement budget as well as the operating budget related to facilities and garage management.
The ideal candidate will possess five years of increasingly responsible experience in maintenance and repair at a journey or lead level, including at least two years of supervisory experience with a background in project management, building maintenance and construction technology as well as knowledge in vehicle maintenance. Candidates will have a successful track record of the following:

- Establishing an action plan for self and others to complete work efficiently and on time by setting priorities, establishing timelines, and leveraging resources.
- Engaging individuals in developing and committing to an action plan that target specific behaviors, skills, or knowledge needed to ensure performance improvement or prepare for success in new responsibilities.
- Fostering a work environment that encourages people to act with integrity and treat each other and their ideas with respect; creating and protecting a high-trust environment by setting an example, advocating for others in the face of challenge, removing barriers to trust, and rewarding others for demonstrating behaviors that cultivate trust.
- Establishing and sustaining trusting relationships by accurately perceiving and interpreting own and others’ emotions and behavior; leveraging insights to effectively manage own responses so that one’s behavior matches one’s values and delivers intended results.
- Originating action to improve existing conditions and processes; identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas, and implementing solutions.
- Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
