This Sr. Facilities Repair Worker position will be stationed at Central Service Yard and travel to various sites across San Jose , with an emphasis on the City of San J ose's interim housing communities . In addition to the typical duties of a Sr. Facilities Repair Worker, the successful candidate will interact a n d compassionately communicate with interim housing tenants and pe ople in vulnerable housing situations . POSITION

Depending on assignment, essential duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Removal and clearing of debris from gutters, culverts, and drainage structures.

• Assist Utilities Division with water and sewer maintenance and repair efforts, such as manholes, fire hydrants, valves, meters, vaults, boxes, and lids.
• Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of beach facilities, including dumping trash cans, picking up debris along waterline, cleaning rest rooms, driving 4-wheel drive trucks on beach, performing minor plumbing and building maintenance, removing graffiti, painting, hand-picking litter and other related duties as assigned.

The Position 
As a Public Safety Dispatcher II, this non-sworn classification dispatches public safety, fire, and emergency medical services out into the community. The successful incumbent will be responsible for receiving incoming calls for police, fire, or medical assistance and dispatch necessary units. This classification is distinguished from the Public Safety Dispatcher I by a broader range of responsibility due to a higher level of experience and training.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the non-sworn flexibility staffed Public Safety Dispatcher I/II series. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the class of Public Safety Dispatcher I in that the latter is the entry level class where incumbents are trained on full range of dispatch functions under immediate supervision. This class is distinguished from the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher in that the latter has full responsibility for supervising a shift of Public Safety Dispatchers I/II.

 

 

Typical Duties

• Operates base radio console equipment, transmitting and receiving routine and emergency messages
• Receives emergency and routine requests for services from the public via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and business lines
• Dispatches appropriate emergency vehicles, equipment and personnel in response to those requests, in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Coordinates emergency operations between various departmental personnel and equipment

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment. All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

The Senior Educational Facilities Planner (Sr. Planner) provides professional planning services that guide the physical development of the campus and assists in strategic development and improvement of buildings and space to support UCSC's mission of research, teaching, and public service. As a senior member of the unit, the Sr. Planner is the resident expert on campus and UC policy regarding capital matters, and provides assistance and support in all areas of planning for CPSM staff, campus leadership. They also act as liaison to the Office of Capital Planning at the UC Office of the President.

The Sr. Planner uses skills as a seasoned, experienced planning professional with a full understanding of industry practices and procedures to resolve a wide range of planning issues; uses advanced planning concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues; develops short and long range capital plans, demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for analyzing alternatives and recommending solutions; exhibits high levels of organization; recommends revisions to proceedures and policies to improve efficiency, and is able to operate with considerable independence.

As a member of BAS, CPSM supports the Office of the Chancellor and Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor in the areas of capital financial planning and policy analysis. • Proficient in math, advanced proficiency in equation development, database manipulation, and use of formulas and functions especially in Google Sheets and Excel; advanced proficiency in manipulating spreadsheets and reconciling large data sets; skilled at analyzing data and materials from a variety of sources, developing valid conclusions, and presenting the analysis and recommendations in a formal manner to a targeted audience; advanced proficiency in all Google and Microsoft Office Suite products; working knowledge of AutoCAD and other architectural drawing or presentation tools; ability to keep complex records and files; meticulous about details and accuracy of work; willingness to learn other software products as required.
• Advanced organizational skills; motivated and able to work independently or under general direction and with minimal supervision; ability to apply judgment, discretion, and initiative in performing complex technical and administrative work in a variety of subjects; ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines, and multi-task in fast-paced environment of competing and swiftly shifting delivery requirements and quick turn-around deadlines.
• Advanced interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with a diverse range of people and positions throughout the organizational hierarchy; ability to establish and maintain working relationships at all levels of the organization, across campus and with external institutions and agencies, and ability to work as a team player and collaborate effectively.
