MAINTENANCE TRAINEE – PARKS & GROUNDS

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Maintenance Trainee – Is an entry-level trainee position. Incumbents learn to perform the full scope of duties of the Maintenance I class. This class is alternately staffed with Maintenance I and incumbents may advance to the higher-level class after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Inspect, clean, repair, and maintain City parks and trail system to ensure facilities are safe and usable; inspect, clean, and stock park restrooms; remove refuse from City garbage cans.

• Control weeds throughout the City.

The Maintenance I classification represents the journey-level within the Parks and Grounds Maintenance class series. Individuals within this class exhibit comprehensive proficiency in independently carrying out a spectrum of Parks & Grounds maintenance responsibilities. This entails not only performing tasks such as inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining City parks, landscape areas, and trail systems, but also making informed decisions regarding safety and usability. The Maintenance I role stands apart from Maintenance II, the lead-level in the series, as Maintenance II holds responsibility for overseeing the tasks performed by a crew engaged in parks and grounds maintenance.

StopWaste is hiring an Energy Council Program Services Specialist to work on Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) programs. The position will conduct community outreach and engage with stakeholders to make energy upgrades and electrify multifamily and single family buildings in Alameda County and the larger Bay Area. The City of Berkeley is seeking a temporary (not to exceed 6 months) Manager of Aging Services! In this role, you will oversee four major Aging Services program areas, including senior centers, nutrition, transportation, and case management, as well as supervision of the division’s management team. Duties include planning, analyzing, and evaluating programs/services division-wide.

The Manager will also oversee Division budgets ($6.1 million), oversee management of Division facilities, and ensure the development and implementation performance goals and objectives using the newly developed results-based accountability framework. This position has the opportunity to coordinate and facilitate strategic planning initiatives, including the City’s Age-Friendly Action Plan, and partner with internal Departments/programs and community organizations to provide services to the older adult community, and further strengthen community resilience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in social science, public health, social work, business or public administration or a related field, and five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience involving program planning and administration, preferably in programs for aging populations or closely related social services or public health program, of which at least two (2) years included supervisory responsibility.

A Master's Degree in any of the above disciplines is desirable.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. Must attend evening and weekend meetings as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The Sustainability Analyst I is the entry-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents in this class provide varied professional clerical and technical support in the administration of solid waste, recycling, organics and related sustainability programs.

The Sustainability Analyst II is the journey-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents are expected to be fully competent in all major solid waste and recycling program functions and able to independently perform assignments.

Incumbents at both levels are required to have an in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the policies and procedures necessary to achieve program results.

Positions in the Sustainability Analyst series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

DEFINITION:

Under general supervision of the Community and Recreation Services Director, the Community Services Manager administers and manages the Youth and Family Services (YFS) and Homeless Programs of the Community and Recreation Services Department for the City of Union City. YFS services include support for youth violence intervention and prevention through mentoring, employment, outreach, case management, individual and family counseling, parent education, and crisis support. Homeless Programs provide direct case management services to unhoused individuals and families.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

This is a single position management classification assigned overall management and coordination of service delivery for the Community Services including Youth & Family Services, Homelessness Programs and other community-based social services. The Community Services Manager is responsible for achieving defined fiscal and programmatic objectives including but not limited to identifying, preparing, and managing grant proposals, budget, and performance reports for federal, state, and local funding.

• Manages and implements a delivery system of social services to youth, families and individuals in crises and the unhoused including but not limited to: at-risk youth, dependent children, homelessness support, sustenance and nutrition support, victims of child/adult abuse, domestic violence, and those experiencing mental health and substance abuse.

DEFINITION:

Under general direction of Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Program Coordinator, the Community and Recreation Program Specialist will assist in coordinating and implementing various community and recreation programs as well as assist with office duties, facility responsibilities, and perform related work as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

The Community and Recreation Program Specialist is an intermediate level position in the Community and Recreation Services and is responsible for the daily operations in the absence of the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Program Coordinator. This position is responsible for the implementation of scheduled activities, provide customer service to participants and the public, and ensure strict adherence to standards to maintain program operations while creating a safe and secure environment. This position is distinguished from the Recreation Program Coordinator in that the latter is responsible for creating the recreation programs, while the Recreation Program Specialist is responsible for the implementation of the day-to-day operations of the recreation programs.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Guide and motivate seasonal staff and volunteers to implement programs and activities and meet daily program needs.
• Assists with planning, scheduling, and implementing programs, trips, and activities at a multi-use recreational community center as well as offsite, while working with members and the public as well as special projects as needed.
• Ensures all applicable safety and security standards, City and department policies, procedures, and standards of conduct are known to the customers and participants of the facility and they are adhered to.

Essential Duties

What you will do:  

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Receives animals at the Shelter, isolating those showing signs of disease from healthy ones.
 
Vaccinates animals as they are received and administers medicine under instructions from a veterinarian; prepares identification collars and places on animals for accurate records.
 
Responds to questions from the public about animal breeds, temperament and adoptions;  advises public on appropriate choices for adoption and the proper care, treatment and control of animals.
 
Cleans, disinfects and maintains kennels and kennel area; performs dishwashing and laundering tasks.
 
Maintains a computerized log and record of all animals at shelter.
 
Reports any animals exhibiting symptoms of ill health or communicable disease.
 
Maintains inventories and supplies of food, medicines and controlled drugs, completing the necessary forms.

Assists in supervising volunteers.
