The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant Fire Inspector in the Fire Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Division and help administer special projects aimed at assisting residents with defensible space, hazardous vegetation cleanup, and preparing for wildfire. This position also plays an important role in grant-funded projects, program management, and outreach events as well as fulfilling technical work required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience in fire, building, or code enforcement inspections in a paid professional, internship, or volunteer capacity. Municipal experience desirable.

Other desirable qualifications include: Completion of California State Fire Marshal's Fire Prevention 1A, 1B, and 1C courses; Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D; or International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I; Associate’s degree in fire science, emergency management, fire protection engineering, environmental science, ecosystem management, public policy, public administration, or related field.

About the Position

The Public Works Maintenance Worker I is an entry-level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. The AB617 Staff Specialist in the Community Engagement Division will support outreach, engagement and partnerships with communities overburdened by air pollution to advance solutions towards equity and environmental justice. The responsibilities of the Staff Specialist may include, but are not limited to, being part of a team to co-develop a local community plan with environmental justice communities as part of the Air District's Community Health Protection Program(Assembly Bill 617). The person in this position may work on other Community Engagement and/or Environmental Justice projects, as assigned, such as Home Air Filtration Programs, community workshops and events, community grants, youth-oriented engagement projects, or other projects. The Staff Specialist will assist in coordinating efforts across inter-divisional teams and facilitate meetings with Air District staff and local community leaders and preparing meeting agendas.

This role also involves public speaking over virtual platforms as well as during in-person meetings. Staff Specialists often liaise with other divisions in the Air District to leverage data, resources, and other tools to support crafting and implementing strategies, developing power point presentations, and identifying new internal and external partners. The Staff Specialist may develop and implement public education workshops and is likely to work across inter-divisional teams. The Staff Specialist may write and design fact sheets, and/or draft FAQ and talking points for a variety of public and leadership meetings. The Aging and Adult Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a Deputy Public Guardian Conservatorship Investigator III (DPG). The position is on the Probate Conservatorship Investigation team and is the intake section of the San Mateo County Public Guardian program.

The team receives referrals from all sources, for individuals who are no longer able to make decisions for themselves due to a disabling condition other than mental health. The probate conservatorship investigators conduct a very involved inquiry into the individual's past and present life to prove to the court that there are no other alternatives to conservatorship that will allow the individual to continue to live independently in the community. Conservatorship is a very invasive process as it removes most of an individual's rights. Therefore, it is as a last resort that a petition for conservatorship is filed with the Superior Court.

The current vacancy is in the Aging and Adult Services Division located in San Mateo, but will drive to visit clients at various locations, attend meetings, and perform various duties of the position. This person will report to the Supervising Deputy Public Guardian of Aging and Adult Services.

DPG's have responsibility for managing estates and providing casework services. They administer complex property and litigation cases, prepare complex court reports and testify in Court as needed and may develop comprehensive care plans. DPG III's also provide lead direction and training to other deputies, serve as liaisons with specific County and State department and community agencies, handle those cases that present the greatest liability to the client and/or the County, and may provide 24-hour emergency response services.
