The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. SJFD is a high-volume, all-hazards fire department providing fire suppression and rescue services that protects approximately 200 square miles, Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services as well as specialized operations including Urban Search and Rescue, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, and a Hazardous Material Unit with a Decontamination Unit. SJFD deploys resources from 34 fire stations, protecting areas within city limits and some unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County by contract. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. Work is rigidly structured, highly supervised, and incumbents are continuously evaluated and receive feedback regularly. Firefighter Recruits must graduate from the Academy and be appointed to the class of Firefighter in order to retain employment in the job series.

  • Firefighter Recruit: $45.05 hourly, $3,604.00 bi-weekly*

Upon successful completion of the Firefighter-Recruit Academy:

Upon successful completion of the academy, eligible employees may also receive the following additional premium pays:

• Paramedic Pay: 14% of top step Firefighter upon completion of Santa Clara County Paramedic Accreditation process (currently $733.69 bi-weekly)
• Oral Bilingual Pay: 2.5% of top step Firefighter (currently $131.02 bi-weekly)

Education & Training Pay (AA/AS - BS, Fire Science, Fire Technology, Fire Protection Technology): 1.5% of top step Firefighter (currently $78.61 bi-weekly)

Employees hired on or after January 1, 2017, must reside within 120* minutes travel time from the nearest City of San Jose fire station (non-traffic period as calculated by Google Maps or map program mutually agreed to by the parties).

*effective July 1, 2024, the travel time will change to residing within 180 minutes of the nearest

The role involves managing the Airport's campus-wide, on-site data centers and all Main Distribution Frames (MDFs), Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs), and Minimum Points of Entry (MPOEs). Additionally, the position encompasses management for infrastructure improvements, including capacity planning, design, and project management for networking, power, space, and HVAC in the IT physical environments as well as the inside/outside cable plant. As SJC continues to evolve and grow, attracting more passengers and airlines, the selected candidate will act as a subject matter expert and liaison to SJC divisions, airlines, and tenants for MAC (Moves, Adds, Changes) requests, requirement analysis, RFP/Q review, and new construction projects as required. This position requires strong understanding of and working experience with project management practices. This is a leadership role with planning, designing, directing, and coordinating a work plan as well as supervising the activities and final work product of, up to two other members of the ATS Infrastructure team.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, planning, and management of the campus-wide cable plant and IT physical infrastructure to support the Airport improvements, airlines, and tenants, addressing both current & future needs.
• Provide a comprehensive understanding of technology offerings, implementation constraints, and costing. Ability to propose technology recommendations and solutions by providing a solid and complete justification for each solution.
• Assess the voice and data needs of the Airport, develop Airport technical standards, determine where the cable infrastructure should be installed, and oversee the installation.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert and liaison to Airport divisions, airlines, and tenants for requests, requirements, RFP/Qs, and new construction projects as required.
• Manage stakeholder engagement acting as Point of Contact (PoC) for project activities, conducting project reviews, identifying and escalating project issues, briefing on proposed technology, organizing and conducting vendor site visits, and fostering collaborative working relationships.
• Possess a strong understanding of, and working experience with, Project Management practices and tools.
• Ability to understand your audience, negotiate with stakeholders, and clearly understand the requirements and scope.
• Coordinate project schedules, including participation in meetings, documentation, and tracking action items to ensure successful completion.
• Oversee the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of contract. Participate in the negotiation of contracts & contract changes, review Statements of Work (SOWs)/Work Orders to understand commitment and expectations.
• Data Center Management of the Airport's mission critical on-site Data Centers, Main Distribution Frames (MDFs), Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDFs), and Minimum Points of Entry (MPOEs). Responsibilities include operational and capacity planning, physical security management, and setting policy on best practice use of the facility.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

• Possess a BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification.
• Be an Outside/Inside Plant specialist. Airport experience preferred.
• Ability to determine the scope, cost, and time for existing and new OSP/ISP projects that are moderate to complex in a matrix environment.
• Outside/Inside plant construction and project management experience and inventory management experience.
• Familiarity with data center industry standards, building codes, and safety standards.
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of fiber optic engineering principles with OSP job-related functional areas to include general best practices, procedures, and industry standards.
• 5 years or more experiences working in mission critical environments (e.g., airports, utilities, telecommunications carriers, etc.) requiring coordination across multi-disciplines for delivering a common goal.
• 5+ years mission critical Data Center operations experience.
• 5+ years' Telecom industry experience.
• 5+ years' experience with Outside Plant cabling (OSP) & Inside Plant cabling (ISP), structured cabling systems.
• Experience coordinating with GIS teams to ensure as-builts are reflected in existing mapping tools.
• Experience working with GIS teams to document all fiber paths, terminations, and splices for all cabling projects.

Salary Information:
The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience. The below salary ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay.

Salary range for this classification is: $130,515.84 - $159,017.04 annually

The Information Technology Department’s Development Services Solutions team is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Information System Analyst positions to support the development and maintenance for several Off-The-Shelf (OTS) and custom systems and applications that support operations of the Planning, Building, Code Enforcement department and the Development Services process at the City of San Jose. The primary role of this position is to act as technical lead in supporting and managing diverse departmental business systems that include web and client servers’ application, database, Permitting and Compliance, public web portal, Business Intelligence, GIS, Inspection scheduling/Dispatch, Digital Inspection and performing all duties necessary for maintaining, supporting and optimize systems.  This position must ensure business processes for users are documented and that systems meet customer expectations.  This position is responsible for ongoing user training, report creation, systems administrations, system support, maintenance, and programming efforts and must maintain excellent customer relations.

The ideal candidate must be able to work in a dynamic environment and can effectively perform operational tasks in addition to implement projects.  This is a professional level in the IT professional management IT series and will be expected to act in a supervisory role over Sr. System Application Programmers and System Application Programmers.

• Administering business and data systems that support regulatory processes through to field staff, preferably including Building, Planning, and Code Enforcement (PBCE) business processes inside a large municipality.

The Information Technology Department’s Development Services Solutions team is seeking for two qualified candidates to fill the Senior Applications Developer positions to support the development and maintenance of the above systems and applications as well as to assist with emerging needs around data analysis, data extraction, data mapping, and reporting functions associated with the above systems and business requirements. The ideal candidate should have technical experience in at least one or more items in each of the following four skills groups: 

1.    Systems: Granicus AMANDA, SAP Crystal Reports, Yellowfin and/or Power BI, Enterprise Content Management, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) such as Mule ESB, and/or Case Management/Tracking systems.

2.    Languages: PL/SQL, SQL, Java, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Visual Basic, and/or ASP
