The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking to fill 16 full-time Maintenance Assistant positions.

The Maintenance Assistant total salary range is $24.74 to $31.56 hourly or $51,459.20 to $65,644.80 annually . The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Infrastructure Maintenance Division of DOT is looking to fill 16 full-time vacant positions. These positions perform work in the maintenance and repair of concrete, pavement, sewers, landscaping, traffic signs, and traffic markings. Duties include digging holes, trenches, and ditches. They also operate a wide range of hand, mechanical, and power tools, as well as a variety of light and heavy vehicles, trucks, and equipment relevant to work performed, ensuring compliance with safe working practices. Maintenance crews provide services seven days a week. Individuals in this classification may be required to work alternate work shifts, including grave and swing, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call.

Under general supervision of the Senior Automotive Equipment Specialist, typical duties of the Communications Installer include installing 2-way radios into a variety of vehicles, including but not limited to Police vehicles and motorcycles, Fire department apparatus and other city department vehicles.

Installations are to be industry accepted best practices including the selection of proper wire sizing based on electrical loading, equipment placement with emphasis on serviceability, proper wire routing, proper power distribution, antenna placement, and grounding/power return.

The Communications Installer will also be responsible for the installation of intercom systems, emergency/warning lighting, vehicle electronics, computer equipment and terminals, antennas, and custom installations of non-standard equipment. This equipment is commonly used in emergency vehicles and municipal equipment.

This position requires the following knowledge and abilities in order to be successful in the position:
 

• Knowledge and ability to install and diagnose the systems and equipment similar to the City's Fleet including sirens, light bars, accessory lighting, FLIR devices, Tracking systems, timers, and the knowledge to interface with those systems when necessary.
• Ability to follow verbal/written direction, read/ interpret schematics, schematic symbols, and wire diagrams.
• Ability to accurately document all non-standard installations, complete necessary paperwork, installation forms, and data entry in a timely basis.
• Ability to work effectively and communicate with the vendors on interconnection and installation. May be required to diagnose issues when necessary.
• Ability to work in a team environment on large projects working within established labor standards to meet project completion goals.

Recreation Supervisor (Aquatics and Fitness)

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the forthcoming state-of-the-art aquatic and recreation facility set to open in Summer 2024. The brand-new 49,360 sq ft facility will feature indoor and outdoor lap pools, a zero-entry wading pool, fitness amenities, a gymnasium, a walking track, and ample space for programming and rentals. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for professional recreation duties, encompassing the planning, organization, coordination, and supervision of aquatics and fitness programs at the facility. We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in Aquatics and Fitness, and preference will be given to those holding certifications such as AFO, CPO, LGI, WSI, or other relevant Aquatics and Fitness Certifications.

Responsibilities of the Recreation Services Supervisor include, but are not limited to:

Requirements

In addition to graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, social work, gerontology, public administration or another closely related field of study – the candidate will also have three (3) years related paid recreation work experience at a level comparable to Recreation Services Coordinator or similar position with significant experience in the implementation of recreation and human services program or activities. 

Additionally, the candidate should possess a valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one, and may be required to obtain and maintain a Class B driver’s license. First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard  Instructor, CPR, and other specialized certifications may be required based on supervisory assignment.

DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.

The City of Brisbane will be sponsoring up to four summer internships this year.  Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector.  You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship and to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.

Projects for 2024 include:

• Communications – Assist with developing innovative and relevant content for posting on City-administered social media sites, research and work with departments in developing articles for publication on the City’s website and print newsletter, and assist with aspects of video production including storyboarding, camera work, and script-writing.

Primary assignment will focus on mapping and geolocating drinking water facilities to comply with new state regulatory compliance.  Secondary assignments may include field engineering support on construction of capital utility projects and assisting on various engineering reports and studies.

Applicants must be college students currently enrolled in and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in a related field (e.g. public administration, public policy, business, planning, library science, environmental studies, engineering, sustainability). Under direction, the 2595 Senior EAP Counselor provides direction and supervision to counselors providing organizational wellness services and engaged in direct client counseling; provides clinical assessments, short-term counseling, and referral of City and County employees experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems; conducts seminars, trainings, and consultations on issues related to personal and organizational wellness; prepares records and reports; and performs related duties as required.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Participates in the selection of, trains and evaluates a team of journey level counselors.
2. Provides clinical assessment, short-term counseling, and referral of City and County employees experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems, such as stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, emotional concerns or relationship issues; provides counseling to family members and significant others as appropriate.
3. Educates employees, managers, supervisors, and union personnel regarding employee assistance program service offerings, how to access services, early identification of personal and workplace problems, and referrals to the program; directs the development of programs, resources, and EAP initiatives.
4. Provides consultation to managers, supervisors, union personnel, human resources professionals, clinical specialists, and family members regarding specific issues of individual employees in conformance with program and confidentiality policies; recommends specific methods or techniques for resolving performance problems, including appropriate managerial and supervisory interventions.
5. Directs development of, creates, and facilitates seminars and trainings for employees and management on personal, interpersonal and organizational issues such as the effective management of stress, anger and emotions, workplace negativity and dealing with difficult people.
6. Provides crisis intervention, trauma response, and mediation/conflict resolution services as necessary.
7. Leads evaluation efforts to determine the effectiveness of the overall program and specific services provided and prepares the reports.

The Position: 

This is a management position in the unclassified service.  An incumbent in this position has the responsibility to plan, organize, lead, and control the operations of the Dispatch Division of the Police Department.  The incumbent, using good management and supervisory skills, manages, motivates, corrects, and evaluates assigned subordinate personnel.  Additionally, the incumbent will transmit messages or documents of a confidential nature.

As a member of the City's Unclassified Service, this is an "at-will" position and the incumbent serves at the discretion of the City Manager. An incumbent in this classification: demonstrates strong ethical, professional, and service-oriented leadership and interpersonal skills; sets a good example; and correctly applies the tenets of the City's Code of Ethics and values.

The annual salary range for this position is $156,770.64 - $202,878.00.  This position will be filled at or near the bottom of the salary range. 

Typical Duties:

Under general direction, duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Screens and recommends the selection of operations personnel; 
• Deals effectively with a wide range of personnel matters;
• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for Communications Operations;
• Supervises operations personnel;
• Prepares statistical data;
• Conducts and oversees training programs for operations personnel;
• Performs liaison duties with other City departments;
• Coordinates emergency operations between various departmental personnel and equipment;
• Operates computer equipment for information essential to the operation of the department;
• Acts as the custodian of record for retention of recorded data;
• Maintains statistical information and other necessary data;
• Investigates and resolves complaints received from the public, user departments and other agencies;
• Counsels employees when appropriate; and
• Performs related duties as required for the position, including dispatching in times of emergency or when needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Equivalent to graduation from high school and thirty (30) semester units of college level work with an emphasis in public safety, supervision and management, public administration or related subjects; and
• Five years' experience dispatching in the public safety field, at least two (2) years of which having been at the supervisory level.
Possible Substitutions:
• Administrative or supervisory experience in a public safety department may be substituted for the dispatching experience on a year for year basis.

LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
• Willing to respond to callback in case of major emergencies or local disasters;
• Willing to work Saturdays and odd, irregular and unusual hours;
• Will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting, polygraph and/or psychological testing; and
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job.
