The Position

Dispatchers play a vital role in the department by answering both emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching units and providing information and assistance to the community. 

Dispatchers work twelve (12) hours shifts - with four (4) days off every other week.

The City of Brisbane is currently accepting applications for Administrative Assistant.  Under general supervision, the Administrative Assistant provides varied office administrative and secretarial support to a department head and related management, professional, and supervisory staff; performs technical support work related to the department to which assigned; may provide lead direction and/or training to a small office support staff on a project or day-to-day basis; and performs related work as required.  This recruitment is for an opening in the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director. Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only)

• Oversees and ensures that the office administrative functions of the department are effectively carried out.
• Maintains a calendar and coordinates the schedule of the department head and associated management staff with those of members of Boards and Commissions, other City management staff, representatives of other organizations, and the public; makes travel arrangements as required.
• Provides a variety of support to City commissions or committees; prepares and distributes agenda packets; attends meetings and prepares minutes; follows-up on decisions as required.
• Attends to a variety of office administrative details, such as keeping informed of departmental activities, transmitting information, ordering and coordinating supply orders, preparing contracts and agreements, arranging for equipment purchase and maintenance, attending meetings, and serving on various task forces and committees.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

• Basic organization and function of public agencies, including the role of an elected City Council and appointed boards and commissions.
• Codes, regulations, policies, technical processes, and procedures related to the department to which assigned.
• Standard office administrative and secretarial practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment.
• Business letter writing and the standard format for reports and correspondence.
• Computer applications related to the work, including word processing, presentation, database, and spreadsheet applications.
• Records management principles and practices.

Education/Experience:  Equivalent to graduation from high school with supplemental business school or applicable college-level course work and four (4) years of responsible office administrative, secretarial, and/or general clerical experience. Possession of Associates degree from college in a related curriculum is desirable and may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis. 

Licenses: Must possess a valid California class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

SALARY AND HOURS:

$5,838.07 - $6,130.30 - $6,435.32 - $6,757.41 - $7,096.56 per month.  Appointments are generally made at the first step in this range. This is a full-time 40 hours per week position working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:00 AM -5:00 PM, Wednesdays 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM and Fridays 8:00 AM -1:00 PM.

BENEFITS:

This position is eligible for benefits under the General Employees Association memorandum of understanding. Health benefits are offered through the CalPERS Health Program. The City contributes to a flexible compensation plan towards the cost of health plans, up to family coverage. City provides paid vision through VSP, dental through a self-insured reimbursement program, life and LTD insurance coverage through Voya Financial, and an Employee Assistance Program through MHN. Retirement benefits are provided through CalPERS, 2%@60 for “Classic” members, 2%@62 for “New” members. The City will make a contribution of 1.5% to a Deferred Compensation 457K plan with additional matching available. Flexible spending accounts (Health and Dependent Care) and transportation spending accounts are also available. Free commuter shuttle to and from BART and Caltrain is available.

LEAVE:

Vacation: 80 hours annually

Sick: 8 hours of sick leave accrued monthly

Holidays: 13 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays

Longevity: 40 hours after 15 years of full-time service

SELECTION PROCESS:

Candidates must receive a score of 70% or higher on the oral interview exam to be placed on the initial eligibility list.  A limited number of candidates from the eligibility list will be invited for an interview with the Parks and Recreation Director.  Depending upon the number of candidates, this process may be altered.  The Parks and Recreation Director will make the final recommendation for appointment.  After a mutual interest has been established, the final candidate must complete a fingerprint check submitted to the Department of Justice and a thorough background investigation with favorable results.  Eligibility lists are generally valid for one year upon establishment and future appointments for similar positions may be filled from the eligibility list generated from this recruitment.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Recreation Division consists of seven program areas, including Aquatics, Classes, Cultural Arts, Childcare, Senior Services, Sports and Rentals. The Child Care Program Area includes three preschools for children 2.5 to 5 years; four licensed after school recreation programs for school-age children Kindergarten-12 years; two grant funded ASES programs (REAL Program) designed for academic support for school age children Kindergarten–12 years old; Summer, Spring and Winter camps for children kindergarten through 12 years old; TEEN camp in Summer; Full of Fun Camp and Nights of Fun.

THE POSITION  

The Preschool Teacher will direct, plan, develop, and implement an educational program that provides for the full intellectual and social development of each child.  This journey-level classification is distinguished from the next higher level in that this classification has sites and few administrative and coordinative responsibilities.

Incumbents daily have direct contact with the children and parents.  Incumbents must perform in accordance with specific instructions and are reviewed for compliance with State of California requirements.

Depending on the level of experience, the vacancy will be filled as either a Preschool Teacher I or Preschool Teacher II.

About the Position

Positions in this classification perform work in the organization and implementation of the San Carlos Youth Center After School Drop-In Program and special events for youth and teens.

The Program Coordinator classification is the top-level position in the Recreation Leader Series.  Advancement from Recreation Leader Level II to Program Coordinator requires 500 hours of work experience at Recreation Leader Level II, or equivalent experience.

May provide functional supervision to a Recreation Leader I or II as assigned.  Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday 2:00pm – 6:00pm, Friday-Saturday as needed for special events.  

Essential Duties

• Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs specialized recreation programs as assigned.
• Maintains required records, including program statistics.
• Oversees the work of volunteers, Recreation Leaders I and II as assigned, to ensure effective programs.
• Works directly with recreation programs for youth.

Positions in this part-time classification perform routine, basic work under direct supervision, in the planning and conducting of a wide variety of recreation activities. Receives supervision from a Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Recreation Leader II or Program Coordinator as assigned.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday shifts ranging from 3:00pm – 6:00pm, Wednesday 1:00pm-6:00pm

Recreation Leader I
• Assists with planning and implementation of after school drop-in program.
• Assists with directing program participants as appropriate.
• Provides leadership and supervision of recreation programs and participants
• Performs site maintenance duties.
• May serve as scorekeeper, kitchen assistant, day camp counselor, program staff, or Special Needs leader, working with children and young adults who have special needs.

Recreation Leader II

THE POSITION

The current opening is for a per diem position and is under the direction of the Police Dispatcher/Records Supervisor.  The Police Dispatcher/Clerk is a non-sworn technical and complex clerical support classification associated with law enforcement support services assigned in the Town Police Department.  Police Dispatcher/Clerks learn and perform a variety of responsible records management, communications and dispatching duties for emergency and non-emergency calls for service. 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

• Dispatches police officers to calls for service
• Provides assistance, information and directions to non-emergency callers including but not limited to police, fire, paramedic, animal control and public utilities calls for service, forwards non-emergency calls to proper personnel or departments
• Maintains awareness of field unit activities; communicates with field units through radio in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations; maintains status and location of units on patrol
• Retrieves information from State and National computer networks regarding wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other related information
• Enters call information into computer systems; logs and completes call forms, maintains records of calls for service and self-initiated officer activities

Definition: Under supervision, to provide facility support to recreation programs, activities or services; understands and adheres to facility policies and procedures; and performs related work as required.  This temporary part-time non-benefited position works an average of 5 - 25 hours per week during the program year.  Available shifts are Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons/evenings.

Essential Duties:  Depending upon assignment, the duties of a Facility Attendant - Recreation Leader II or III may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Organizes, inventories and maintains necessary facilities and materials.
• Open, close, and secure recreation facilities.
• Set up and tear down tables and chairs.
• Follow set-up directions specific to each activity and event.
• Maintains group and individual discipline, and code of conduct.
• Perform light maintenance to maintain equipment, rooms, and the overall appearance of the facility and picnic rental sites
• Provide quality customer service to all instructors, participants, and renters
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Special Requirements:   Vision adequate to perform room set-ups and take down; speak clearly; ability to bend stoop or crouch; physical stamina to complete all set-up related activities; ability to work off-hours, shifts or events as required; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds; and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Certificates:  Must possess a first aid/CPR certification or be willing to obtain one. 

Service Standards:  

Must successfully complete background process.  All candidates will be fingerprinted pursuant to California State Law.  All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.
