The Position: Under general direction, supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction of public works systems including streets, sidewalks, street lights, traffic signals, collection systems, and assessment districts; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs the more technical and complex tasks.

Essential Job Functions

• Coordinates the organization, staffing, and operational activities for assigned maintenance services including streets, collection systems, sidewalks, assessment districts and related public works facilities.
• Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures. 
• Directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned maintenance services and activities; assigns work activities and projects; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work quality, methods, and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.
• Oversees contractors working for the City involving landscaping, irrigation, planting, electrical signal light maintenance, and/or other public works maintenance contract services as needed; ensures compliance with specifications; verify completion of work and/or correction of work as needed.
• Monitors work sites and ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures; responds to and resolves complex work issues, including equipment operating problems; performs technical and complex tasks of the work unit.
• Inspects work in progress and upon completion to assure that repairs, maintenance, and project activities are in accordance with City quality standards, regulations, policies and operating procedures and practices.
• Performs related and other duties as required.

Community

Suisun City is located midway between San Francisco and Sacramento in south central Solano County.  The City, which was among the first to incorporate in California, developed around a waterfront that has direct access to San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.  Although the City is largely developed, several large parcels exist and a large annexation is on the horizon that signals ongoing development activity will continue to be in the City’s future.

The Position

There are currently several full-time positions available.  The primary job responsibility of the Public Works Maintenance Worker I is to join our team of field employees who work daily to maintain, repair, and construct the physical systems of that serve the community, including parks, recreation equipment, streets, traffic signals, landscaped areas, sewer & storm drain collection systems, and other public facilities. We’re looking for creative problem-solvers to perform high-quality skilled work with a variety of tools and equipment types under the direction and guidance of more experienced lead workers and managers in both individual and team projects.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Performs a variety of maintenance and repair work on various City facilities and structures including streets, landscaped areas, recreation facilities, sewer, storm drains, traffic signals, and other public facilities.
• Operates construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as a dump truck, front-end loader, backhoe, tractor, overlay machine, jetter, compressor, jackhammer, paint sprayer, and concrete saw; maintains hand tools and assigned equipment; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Conducts traffic control when working in high traffic areas of the City; installs street barricades and cones prior to the performance of maintenance or repair activities; directs and controls traffic around work sites.
• Performs various street maintenance functions; identifies and repairs pot hole areas; repairs or replaces cracked, raised, sunken, or otherwise damaged sidewalks, curbs and gutters; removes any roadway hazards; identifies all areas needing striping and/or painting; maintain, clean, and repair collection systems.
• Maintains, installs, and repairs traffic signal systems; maintain and repair street lighting systems, program controllers.
• Prepares, installs, repairs, and replaces City sign posts and signs; cleans and maintains existing signs; trims vegetation that presents safety hazards, clears walkways of trash and debris; removes graffiti.
• Maintains assessment districts and landscaped areas including parkways, open space areas, and medians; performs weed abatement and pesticide applications; installs and maintains irrigation systems to ensure proper operating efficiency; maintains, trims, and removes trees.
• Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
• Clears, maintains, and disposes of trash in public areas; oversees the work of contract staff; performs special projects as required.
• Provides courteous customer service; responds to questions and inquiries from the general public regarding various maintenance projects; resolves customer problems or complaints.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Community Services, Parks, Facilities and Common Greens divisions.

The Recreation Division consists of seven program areas, including Aquatics, Classes, Cultural Arts, Childcare, Senior Services, Sports and Rentals. The Child Care Program Area includes three preschools for children 2.5 to 5 years; four licensed after school recreation programs for school-age children Kindergarten-12 years; two grant funded ASES programs (REAL Program) designed for academic support for school age children Kindergarten–12 years old; Summer, Spring and Winter camps for children kindergarten through 12 years old; TEEN camp in Summer; Full of Fun Camp and Nights of Fun.

THE POSITION  

The Preschool Teacher will direct, plan, develop, and implement an educational program that provides for the full intellectual and social development of each child.  This journey-level classification is distinguished from the next higher level in that this classification has sites and few administrative and coordinative responsibilities.

Incumbents daily have direct contact with the children and parents.  Incumbents must perform in accordance with specific instructions and are reviewed for compliance with State of California requirements.

Depending on the level of experience, the vacancy will be filled as either a Preschool Teacher I or Preschool Teacher II. 

Sonoma County Library is seeking a Chief Financial Officer. The Chief Financial Officer is an executive manager and integral member of the Library Operations Management Team who actively serves as the Library’s lead financial professional and strategist; and serves as the lead financial professional and division head for the Budget and Finance Division.

The incumbent oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of staff performing complex professional, technical, and office support related to all programs and activities of the division; develops and administers current and long-range planning activities; manages the effective use of the Library resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service and reach operational goals; and provides highly complex and responsible support to the Library Director in areas of expertise.

This executive position oversees the work of the Department in the areas of finance, procurement, payroll, including preparation of the Library’s operational and capital improvements budgets, financial statements, and the annual audit.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Named one of America’s best small libraries in 2015, the Mill Valley Library is recruiting for a Youth Services Supervising Librarian. Candidate will report directly to the City Librarian, oversee the Division’s personnel, programming, and services,  and help implement large-scale initiatives.

The Youth Services Supervising Librarian will:

• Help the Library transition to a post-pandemic environment.
• Oversee Youth Services including mentoring staff to provide excellent customer service.
• Support existing and develop new programs for youth services.

• Help the City Librarian prepare reports and work with the Library’s support groups.

Known for its beautiful facility and innovative programming, the Library (pre-pandemic) welcomed 240,000 visitors, had a $2.7 million budget, 20 FTE staff, 130 volunteers, and offered 1,200 programs with 45,000 participants. DEFINITION

Interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience: One year of professional public library experience.

Education: Graduation from college or university or equivalent, with a Bachelor's Degree, and a Master's Degree in Librarianship.
