BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance related duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Repair irrigation systems, tools, recreation and maintenance equipment
• Operate various motorized equipment such as  a tractor, gang mower, power mower, and other equipment
• Plants, waters, mows, prunes, sprays and maintains hedges, lawns, trees, flowers and shrubs
• Maintains parks restrooms and common spaces. 

Willing to assist in these areas:

Position Overview:

As a key stakeholder for the community, the Chief Building Official plans, directs, and oversees the Department's building inspection and engineering programs, activities, and staff and implements and enforces the California Building Standards Code to ensure new development meets all current fire, life safety, structural, and energy efficiency standards. The Chief Building Inspector also plays a lead role in adapting State and local policy into Departmental procedures.

Additionally, the Chief Building Official leads initiatives and process improvements to provide excellent customer service to community members and County employees and maintain high quality of life and public safety through the efforts of the department. The Chief Building Official also plays a key role on the Planning and Building Department’s Management Team by facilitating essential coordination with other divisions within the Department and with other departments and organizations within the County.

Responsibilities include enforcing the legal provisions governing construction and inspection activities; overseeing all aspects of the County’s building and inspection programs; and overseeing the permitting and inspection of major ground-up construction projects within the County’s ambitions capital improvement program. Additional responsibilities include developing County and Departmental policies and procedures; directly and indirectly supervising assigned supervisory, technical, and administrative staff, including recruitment, training, evaluation, and staff development.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Establish and implement procedures, policies, and priorities for building permit processing, collection of necessary fees and related record maintenance, and field inspections.
• Enforce federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to residential, commercial, and industrial building uses, construction, health, and safety.
• Conduct periodic field inspections to monitor workflow and ensure conformance with approved plans, specifications, ordinances, laws, and materials; and conduct more difficult building and housing inspections.

The City of San Bruno Community Development Department

is looking for a bright and enthusiastic Intern!

The City of San Bruno is seeking an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, professional and creative Intern to support the Community Development Department! The Community Development Department is comprised of the Planning and Building Divisions responsible for ensuring that new and existing developments comply with city and State laws and regulations. The department provides technical information to residents, commissions, and developers regarding codes and ordinances. In addition, the department prepares plans and ordinances related to long-range planning initiatives. The department processes and reviews building permits for new construction and modifications to existing buildings.

Example of Duties:

The Intern will support the Department in a variety of professional tasks, primarily assisting the Building Division with customer inquiries and the processing of building permits. The intern may also provide support to the Planning Division by providing zoning information to customers and processing planning applications or conducting planning research or working on housing related initiatives.

Examples of responsibilities include:

• Interacting with members of the community.
• Answering phones, permit and application intake.
• Writing staff reports.
• Researching and collecting information on planning-related topics.
• Performing related duties as assigned.

There will be opportunities for exposure to various City departments during the internship and opportunities to network. There may also be opportunities for interns to network with other jurisdictions in San Mateo County or others in the Bay Area region.

Candidates must have a flexible schedule, approximately 20 hours per week (not to exceed 999 per fiscal year), to meet the needs of the Community Development Department. Hours can be scheduled in 3 to 8 hour blocks of time during regular business hours (Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.). Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.

The ideal candidate is currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior undergraduate in an accredited college university program to obtain a Bachelor's degree or as a graduate student in a Master's Program. Preferred majors include Construction Management, City Planning, Public Policy, Urban Study, Environmental Study, Architecture, Civil or Structural Engineering, Public Administration, or other related programs. The City will also consider applicants who are enrolled in an Associate’s degree program and who have completed at least one year of coursework in building inspection or a related field. In addition, the candidate will also possess the following competencies:

Benefits

Part-time, temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be terminated at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, except for paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes.  Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

Under general direction, the Transportation Safety Specialist develops and implements comprehensive system safety programs and procedures for San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA); serves as a technical adviser to ensure agency-wide compliance with departmental, local, state and federal regulations and industry safety standards.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

1. Plans and conducts internal safety audits and inspections to identify hazards in the use of equipment, procedures and systems, and unsafe operating conditions by reviewing incident patterns and causes, transit route characteristics, traffic data, and physical location characteristics, and develops preventive strategies, policies and procedures.

2. Investigates bus and rail incidents involving transit vehicles and non-revenue vehicles to identify causal factors; recommends corrective actions and prepares incident investigation reports for internal use and for review and approval by external agencies such as the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

3. Monitors, investigates and reports on operating procedures and unsafe operating conditions; identifies hazards of transit operating systems in the use of equipment, procedures, and systems, and provides recommendations to mitigate these hazards.

4. Reviews system safety statistics, and prepares reports on system performance using SFMTA’s transportation and safety-related databases; recommends corrective action to reduce potential for future incidents, and analyzes effectiveness of corrective actions.

5. Develops and implements new transportation safety programs and initiatives, including the development and implementation of safety standard operating procedures, and formulates related safety policies and procedures.

6. Evaluates the effectiveness of safety-related training programs and recommends modification where necessary; may provide direction or advice to training division staff in the development of new safety-related training programs.

7. Conducts training sessions for managers, supervisors and line staff in incident reduction and prevention, hazard recognition and evaluation, the Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan, and other safety-related areas as needed and requested. This includes training Transit Supervisors in on-the-scene accident investigation techniques and procedures.

8. Evaluates various contracts, RFP's, engineering drawings and facility designs, plans for construction projects, future transit lines and changes to existing transit systems for regulatory compliance, potential safety issues and liability exposure.

9. Serves as a technical advisor regarding safety standards and system safety issues; participates in and/or chairs safety meetings and committees and may serve on committees of outside agencies as assigned.

10. Ensures agency-wide safety standard compliance with departmental, local, state and federal regulations.

Nature of Work:  Incumbents may be required to work in adverse work and weather conditions and be on-call for response during nights, weekends and holidays; climb ladders, bend, squat and crawl in tight spaces to safely access work sites; and use various computer programs and software applications. 

EDUCATION: 

Baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited college or university. AND

A minimum of 12 continuing education credits in safety-related areas such as accident/incident investigation and system safety from an accredited college, university, or Certification from the Transportation Safety Institute (TSI).

EXPERIENCE:

Four (4) years of full-time verifiable professional experience in transportation/system safety and/or in a transit agency's safety program with experience in accident/incident investigations, hazard assessment compliance audits, and efficiency compliance checks; OR

Four (4) years of full-time verifiable professional experience conducting vehicle accident investigations; OR

Four (4) years of full-time verifiable experience repairing, replacing, and/or maintaining of transit vehicles, Railway Signals and/or Track Right of Way within a Transportation Agency.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Substitution:

Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.

Note: Incumbents must complete the Transit Safety and Security Program (TSSP) training within three years of initial appointment. This requirement must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Additional Note: One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours.
(2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the automatic calculation to determine full-time employment.

The Aging and Adult Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Social Work Supervisor - Aging and Adult Services - Centralized Intake.  Social Work Supervisors, under direction, plan, assign, review, and evaluate the work of a unit of Social Workers and others, and provide direction to staff on casework concepts, methods and procedures, provisions of services, and departmental policies and procedures.

This current vacancy is in the Aging and Adult Services Division located in San Mateo, but will travel throughout the County to perform duties of the position; will work a Monday through Friday schedule.  
 
The position is within the Centralized Intake unit.  The Social Work Supervisor will be responsible for reviewing and assigning new Adult Protective Services (APS) referrals to the investigating social workers; oversight of the following programs – Hotline, Linkages, 24 Hour On-Call, and APS’ specialized financial abuse unit called the Elder and Dependent Adult Protection Team (EDAPT); collaborating on complex case matters over the telephone with interested persons associated with a case, community partners, Ombudsman Program, law enforcement, County Attorney and the District Attorney’s Office; reviewing cases submitted by investigating social workers for case closure; conducting scheduled and unscheduled supervision sessions with APS staff; cultivating and supporting collaborative relationships with staff from the San Mateo Medical Center, Behavioral Health & Recovery Services, community hospitals, law enforcement, Code Enforcement, County Attorney, District Attorney’s Office, LPS and Probate Investigations programs, Golden Gate Regional Center, Health Plan of San Mateo, and other key community partners and service providers to APS clients; developing policies and procedures; attending APS state/regional meetings, partnering with leadership staff in facilitating multidisciplinary team and unit meetings; ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations; outreach and education to community groups; understanding and supporting Lean/LEAP and other quality assurance efforts; communicating effectively with management and executive staff on critical APS matters; and other duties as assigned.

Adult Protection Services (APS) is a state-mandated service program charged with investigating allegations of elderly and dependent adult abuse. Abuse may be in the form of physical, financial, neglect, mental, sexual, isolation and abandonment. Investigations and client assessments may be conducted in collaboration with law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office. In addition, and in consideration of the client’s rights and interests, APS advocates and links clients to services and programs to maintain their safety and protection in the community.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is two (2) years of experience performing a full range of professional social worker duties, and at least six (6) months of lead experience; or a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work that included an internship, AND one (1) additional year of experience performing a full range of professional social worker duties.

Under general supervision, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility. Essential functions of the class include:

• Operates, maintains and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and power generating equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility to ensure the safe, correct and efficient functioning of the facility and equipment may be required to operate computerized building management systems, preventative or predictive maintenance computer systems or Computerized Data Gathering System (SCADA).
• Inspects and tests: machinery and equipment for safe, efficient and proper operation by visual and audio inspection during walk-throughs and by standard monitoring; fire prevention equipment to ensure safe and proper functionality; water storage and multiple distribution systems, high pressure zones, wood and steel storage tanks, pumps and relief valves, and samples of water.
• Makes entries and keeps records on shift operation by taking and entering gauge readings and accurate water laboratory analysis readings and temperatures on operating log sheets or into a computer data system to ensure preventative maintenance and equipment history; and changes charts and recordings accordingly.
• Receives, records and stores large amounts of treatment chemicals and may handle hazardous chemicals in confined or enclosed areas; must be capable of safely and properly handling chemical spills; may also include handling and treatment of industrial or hazardous waste.
• Contacts, communicates and is required to deal with contractors, building tenants and/or the general public in order to be able to discharge assigned duties.
• Maintains keys, communications equipment, and security (in the absence of Security Personnel), in order to ensure the security of a plant and buildings and grounds, including public safety. As part of an emergency response team, recognizes, evaluates, and responds to potentially hazardous situations.
• Performs control tests on water samples to determine chlorine and fluoride residual, pH, alkalinity, turbidity, color, saturation index and flocculation factors; under supervision, conducts water analysis and regulates treatment chemical dosages to maintain water quality in filtration plant, distribution system, or other large complex facility may also be required to perform water analysis on water/wastewater as required by the State of California; performs boiler water and cooling tower chemical tests, including pH, alkalinity TDS, etc., to monitor and control growth of organisms in water.
• Performs related duties as required.

Nature of work
Involves physical effort in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment; the ability to lift heavy objects; exposure to working conditions where minor abrasions, bruises, and burns may occur; occasional uncomfortable work inside closed and dirty spaces; exposure to potential uncomfortable weather conditions and traffic conditions; and requires physical stamina to stand, stoop, bend and climb ladders while working in confined spaces, entryways and tight crawl spaces.  Some positions may also require the ability to operate both automatic and manual automobile transmission as needed. Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, and a shift of up to 12 hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Four (4) years of verified journey-level stationary engineer experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of a variety of mechanical and electrical pumping, heating, air conditioning, ventilating and related plant machinery used in a government establishment, hospital, industrial, production or commercial building; AND

2. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License; AND

3. Possession at time of hire a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate issued by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Substitution: (Any of the following may be substituted for the required experience)

• Completion of a recognized four-year Stationary Engineer apprenticeship program
• Graduation from a recognized four-year Maritime Academy with a degree in engineering or technology
• Possession of at least a 3rd Assistant Marine Engineer's License of any (unrestricted) horsepower

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has determined that Class 7334 Stationary Engineer is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). Federal law requires that all transit employees who perform safety-sensitive functions be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. All applicants for Safety-Sensitive positions shall undergo urine drug testing prior to employment and within 90 days prior to performing Safety-Sensitive functions for the first time. Receipt by the SFMTA of a negative test result is required prior to the employee being placed on the payroll. A positive, adulterated, negative dilute or substituted test will result in a decision not to hire, and the applicant’s name will be removed from the list of eligibles for Safety-Sensitive positions. THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is composed of a Director and 11 full-time management staff with a 26 million dollar operating budget.  The department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering, and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions.  The Maintenance Division oversees 127 miles of streets which includes asphalt, concrete, over 12,000 road signs, street markings, 70 signalized intersections, 164 miles of sewers, 125 miles of storm drains, 3857 street lights, 5 lift stations, and various miscellaneous tasks.

San Mateo County Health's Aging and Adult Services Division is seeking qualified individuals for the position of In-Home Supportive Services Social Worker II/III. Social Workers provide a wide variety of welfare services in such areas as information and referral, protective services, out-of-home services, health related services, chore services, and other welfare services within the Health and the Human Services Agency.
 
The current vacancy is in the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program that provides in-home care for persons who cannot safely remain in their own home without such assistance. The recipients of IHSS are aged, blind and/or disabled and eligible for Medi-Cal. Disabled and/or blind minor children may also be eligible for IHSS. The Social Worker will make a home visit to determine eligibility for the program and to conduct an assessment to determine a range of service hours for particular tasks. The IHSS recipient or guardian is the IHSS employer and is responsible for hiring and supervising a provider for the care they receive.  The Social Worker will travel throughout the County to conduct home visits, attend meetings and perform other duties of the position.  The Social Worker will work in the San Mateo, CA Aging and Adult Services Office.
 
This IHSS Social Worker will conduct intake and/or on-going activities for IHSS recipients. Some of those activities include:
 

• Conduct initial IHSS assessments using a detailed State assessment tool.
• Complete necessary documents, paperwork, and work within different information technology systems.
• Conduct annual reassessments.
• Educate, support, and perform administrative duties for IHSS recipients and care providers to understand/comply with program regulations.
• Provide education, outreach, and community resources information.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with quality assurance and program integrity to ensure proper adherence to regulations.
• Prepare for and attend Fair Hearings.
• Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings or other activities to support San Mateo County's vision for integrated services.
• Maintain oversight of case management needs for a caseload focused on serving IHSS recipients who are minors.
• Collaborate and facilitate service with care providers and other partner agencies.
