The Human Resources Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Mail Services Driver.  ­­­­­­
 
In general, Mail Services Drivers sort and deliver County and United States mail; operate, adjust, monitor, and maintain mail processing and related equipment; and perform a wide variety of complex and specialized tasks related to the receipt and delivery of mail.
 
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Sort mail, flats, packages, and other materials according to various categories.
• Prepare mail, packages, flats, and other materials for delivery by bundling, wrapping, and weighing.
• Operate mail processing machines such as inserters, postage metering machines, and bundling machines.
• Arrange service and repair calls.
• Maintain records of production and provide information for billing purposes.
• Deliver and pick up mail, packages, freight, and other materials to and from various County agencies and offices on foot or by motor vehicle on established routes and time schedules. 
• Lift and carry heavy packages and move mail and other items using hand trucks or other moving equipment.
• Receive and deliver locked money bags between County departments and monitor related records.
• Maintain working and storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Allocate the cost of metered mail to County budget cost centers.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, customer service oriented, a self-starter, and a team player.  In addition, the ideal candidate will possess a good driving record, free of moving violations, have a good record of attendance and punctuality, possess exceptional organizational skills, have strong communication skills, have exceptional customer service skills, and possess the ability to work effectively in a close-contact, team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

License: Possession of a California class C driver license or equivalent.
 
Physical Requirement: Must possess the physical strength to lift boxes of supplies and mail bags weighing up to 70 pounds. Must have enough stamina to stand and walk for several hours.
 
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to qualify is the equivalent to one year of experience in sorting, routing, or processing mail and/or supplies.

• Traffic laws and the safe operation of a motor vehicle.
• Postal regulations, mailing restrictions, rates, and postal transactions.

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. 

The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team provides a continuum of supportive services, from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine that is answered in 4 languages (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point.

DefinitionUnder administrative direction from the Human Services Director, plans, organizes and directs a Division of the Human Services Department which provides specialized family services; and serves as a member of the department's management team.

Class Characteristics
This professional management classification in the Human Services Department may be assigned as Youth and Family Services Administrator, Aging and Family Services Administrator or Family Resource Center Administrator. Incumbent follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; it is characterized by the responsibility to develop and implement mental and physical health and other social services that support self-sufficiency, strengthen families, help children achieve their optimal development, and help older adults remain independent and engaged in the community for as long as possible. Supervision for the Family Resource Center Administrator is jointly provided by the Human Services Director and leadership team of the Family Resource Center. Review of work is occasional or on a problem basis with incumbents presenting alternative courses for policy decisions. Routine and unusual problems are handled within the context of general plans, broad policies, budgetary limitations and professional standards. Successful performance is measured by total results. The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. We'll expect you to exercise considerable independence and discretion in conducting inspections, resolving complaints and enforcing inspection results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and at least two years of full-time experience equivalent to Housing Inspector or Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Inspector for a public agency. 

Must possess:

• An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and
• ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector certification and ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification, or equivalent ICC or CA Legacy Certification for either Combination Inspector or Combination Dwelling Inspector.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have effective and courteous communication skills in order to discuss housing violations, violation remedy and necessary inspections and fees and participate in depositions and court hearings as requested. The Position

As a member of the HSD assigned to the AFS, the Senior Program Coordinator will organize, coordinate, and implement community wellness programs for older adults. The Community Programs include health promotion activities such as health screenings, wellness classes, and educational activities. The position works within a team that includes volunteers, health promoters, nurses, social workers and mental health workers. The position facilitates community awareness and partnerships, with individuals and agencies, to promote an age-friendly environment.
