The Position

The Department of Public Works seeks well-qualified candidates for the position of Principal Civil Engineer. This is an amazing opportunity to join a hard-working team of results-driven professionals.

The Principal Civil Engineer plans, organizes, and directs the staff and operations of a major functional section within the Public Works Department, including engineering design, construction management, surveying, and mapping. In addition, the Principal Civil Engineer supervises professional and technical staff related to these functions and performs a variety of professional engineering tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility. The current vacancy is in the Design and Construction Management Section.

This position is a full managerial position in the Engineer series, with the following responsibilities:

• Supervise, coach, mentor, and manage performance of professional and technical staff.
• Work cooperatively with the other Divisions and Sections in the Department, including providing timely budget or cost information, as well as, working with other County Departments.
• Make recommendations to the Deputy Director on staffing-levels needed based on anticipated design projects, construction inspection, and administration needs.
• Make recommendations to the Deputy Director on staffing levels, positions, and responsibilities for the Department’s mapping tasks, map filing needs, and efficient storage of information.
• Understand, manage, and budget the funding sources that finance the different activities in the Design and Construction Management Section, including the costs associated with general drafting, counter assistance, and cost of reviewing record maps.
• Oversee and manage the budget and performance measurement requirements and reporting for the Design and Construction Management Section.
• Oversee and manage the design of infrastructure projects ensuring they meet quality standards and project goals.
• Act as the Resident Engineer on construction projects ensuring they are completed safely, on-time and on-budget and per the contract documents.
• Review competed projects with the applicable Divisions or Departments to improve on future projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure/Certification: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the state of California.

• A typical way to qualify is three years of responsible supervisory engineer experience including difficult and complex field and office work in planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a variety of civil engineering projects.

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of civil engineering and municipal public works planning, design, construction, and administration.
• Methods and materials used in the design, construction, and inspection of varied civil engineering projects.
• Principles and practices of public administration, organization, and management.
• Principles, practices, and procedures of budget preparation, budget administration, and budget control.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Weighmaster in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department! Working in the scale house at the solid waste transfer station, the Weighmaster is responsible for assessing incoming loads and providing direction to customers.

In this role, you will weigh vehicles entering and leaving the transfer station; estimate volumes of small loads and assess contents; collect established fees for dumping; provide information and direct customers; and use personal computers for data collection, computation, reconciliation, record keeping and reporting. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: 
Equivalent to completion of high school and either three (3) years of solid waste collection and disposal experience, or three (3) years of general office or accounting support work experience. Prior experience in refuse collection and/or experience in handling of hazardous materials is desirable.

Other requirements include:
Must be bondable and able to work early morning, evening, holiday and weekend shifts in a dusty, windy environment without restrictions. Within a six (6) month probationary period must successfully complete four (4) weeks of full-time equivalent on-the-job training to prepare the employee to assume the full range of Weighmaster duties, as certified by senior supervisory staff.

DEFINITION

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Public Works Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Operates hand and power tools, light and heavy construction equipment and specialized wastewater equipment. Handles and applies chemicals. Maintains, operates, inspects, repairs and installs water distribution system facilities including piping, storage tanks, meters, hydrants, valves, pressure reducing stations, pumping stations, pumps, controls, measuring devices, cathodic protection systems, communication systems, and related appurtenances.

Education and Training Guidelines:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance or construction; completion of high school or the equivalent. 

Experience: One year of experience in general maintenance or construction.

Selection Process

The Risk Management Program Manager (Program Manager), reporting to the Deputy Director of Human Resources/ Risk Manager, will oversee the following three programs:

• Leaves of Absence program for managing and monitoring the administration of claims for leave of absence.

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough. The Department serves a population of 66,045 from six fire stations across a service area of approximately 15 square miles. CCFD is supported by 91 FTEs and a FY2023-24 operating budget of $33.14 million.
