Position and Duties

Technician position for the Radio Communications Shop. The Radio Communications shop maintains the communication system for the City of San José that is used by multiple departments, such as: Police, Fire, Department of Transportation, Parks Recreation Neighborhood Services (Park Rangers), and Public Works (Animal Care & Services). The City of San José public safety and city services depend upon the use of commercial radio communications equipment. For police officers and firefighters, radio communications are the primary means of communicating with the 9-1-1 dispatch center in performing their duties. These vast stand-alone radio systems with fault-tolerant designs are essential to providing the public with reliable emergency response services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with demand for system survivability through any catastrophic event.

The key responsibilities of the Communications Technician may include:

• Install, maintain, and repair mobile and portable radios, base and control stations, microwave systems, dispatch consoles, voting receivers and comparators, digital Microwave system and P25 LMR systems.
• Respond to trouble reports, perform preventative maintenance and project assignments.
• Update technical documentation including wiring block assignments, as-built drawings of installed equipment at City radio sites, specialized vehicular installations, and diagrams of the City’s various communications systems.
• Provide recommendations for process improvement changes with the input of technical staff.
• Construct and/or modify communications equipment and perform research on new equipment.

DEFINITION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to drive and possess a valid California Operator’s license for the type of equipment driven (Class B); ability to work in a variety of confined spaces and positions, and work outside in inclement weather; ability to do heavy lifting; ability to perform work that is labor intensive with considerable bending and stooping and repetitive shoulder, arm and hand motions; must have a great deal of finger dexterity; ability to distinguish color of wires; ability to read and understand written work orders and shop manuals, and communicate with various division employees, parts houses and vendors in order to obtain parts and effect repairs. Within six (6) months of hire, possess and maintain brake certification.

Basic Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, graders, rollers, and a variety of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment tears down motors and performs general overhauling; repairs transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, lights, steering gears, starters, alternators, universal joints, sirens, and hydraulic systems; aligns wheels, adjusts brakes; repairs auxiliary equipment such as hydraulic pumps and motors; builds specialized equipment; installs batteries, tires, wiring, automatic electronic systems, and brakes; welds and cuts with electric and acetylene; occasionally makes emergency repairs out of the shop.

The City of Burlingame is looking for an On-Call Librarian I/II to join our team!  There are currently openings in the Children's Services and Adult Services departments.  Candidates may use the supplemental questionnaire to indicate if they would like to be considered for Children's Services, Adult Services (Reference) or both.  Hours and shifts will vary depending on department staffing needs.

The Librarian I classification is an entry-level position; the Library II classification is the experienced, journey-level position requiring a higher level of experience and training. The Librarian I/II can be filled at either level depending upon qualifications and experience.

 

For Children's Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Providing reference and reader’s advisory to children, teens, and parents at the Children's Desk, which requires extensive knowledge of children's literature.
• Planning and conducting programs for children including story telling, book talks, and films to encourage reading, viewing and listening and use of library materials and facilities.
• Compiling lists of materials of interest to children.
• Organizing and conducting class visits for preschool and elementary age children to encourage reading and use of library materials and facilities.
• Planning and preparing exhibits, book lists and displays using creative marketing techniques to promote the library’s collections and services.
• Utilizing library computer systems and databases.

For Adult Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Serving at an information desk; research and respond to reference questions by phone, in person, or electronically.
• Assisting patrons in use of library collections through reference interviews, database, and web searches, reader’s advisory, and instruction in the use of the online catalog, computer software, and other technology that is used in the library.
• Maintaining current knowledge of materials, resources at BPL and throughout Peninsula Library System and refer patrons as required. 
• Promoting library services to generate increased usage.
• Responding to patron complaints and problems.
• Performing other related duties as assigned. 

 

Education and Experience
Education: A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required.

Experience: At least one year professional experience working in a library setting is preferred.  Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra ILS  is desirable. Successful public contact experience in a library setting; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems. 

Essential Qualifications
Knowledge of: Effective written and oral communication techniques; active listening skills; effective presentation expertise. 

Ability to: Establish rapport with patrons and staff and respond to their requests and comments in an open, objective, and straightforward manner; clearly interpret library policy; tactfully communicate with patrons and staff with differing opinions; mediate difficult situations and suggest appropriate avenues for resolution; maintain a positive flexible attitude; learn the operations, functions, policies and procedures of the Burlingame Public Library, including Branch operations; work day, evening and weekend schedules; search online databases; assess community needs and interests to anticipate future library needs and trends; plan and develop library services and resources based on community needs; foster teamwork and open communication; effectively supervise and motivate subordinate staff; maintain thorough knowledge of different literary genres and age-level materials and be familiar with reader’s advisory tools. 

Skills: Demonstrates creative problem-solving and sound decision-making abilities; recognizes and effectively sets priorities in planning and organizing work; demonstrates a working knowledge of standard and specialized adult and children’s reference and bibliographic resources, both in print and electronic format; demonstrates working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and LC subject headings. 

Licenses: Possession of a Class C, California Driver’s License for branch work and school visits. 

Experience: Successful public contact experience; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems. Experience working with children and adults in a library setting is desirable. Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra system is highly desirable. 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Working Conditions: Ability to stoop, bend and crouch to retrieve materials and books; lift and/or move books or other materials weighing up to 50-pounds; push/pull carts up to 150 pounds; sit, stand and walk for long periods of time; talk and hear well enough to communicate with patrons; use hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms. 

Work indoors in a library setting, including extensive work at a PC monitor.  Extended periods of standing are required in some instances.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Circulation Manager leads the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Library’s Circulation Services. As a member of the Library’s management team, this role is instrumental in maintaining efficient, patron-centered service. Key responsibilities include overseeing circulation operations at the Serramonte Main Library: supervising and supporting staff, managing schedules, and ensuring a high standard of customer service. The Circulation Manager also collaborates with managers across all four Daly City library locations, contributes to committee work, supports program planning and implementation related to circulation services, and completes special projects as assigned.

DEFINITION

Under the general supervision of a Librarian II, Librarian III or Library Services Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating a library program area such as Circulation, Programming, Outreach and Marketing, or Technology Support and Training.  This is the highest level of the Library Assistant series and is distinguished from the next lower class by the higher level of responsibility, including coordinating services system-wide and training and supervising staff. 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Plan and coordinate the operation of the circulation desk; perform circulation desk duties including checking materials in and out as necessary; train and supervise Library Assistants, Aides, and Pages; assist in the formulating and enforcing local library policies and procedures; may represent the City library on committees dealing with procedures for conducting cooperative library activities throughout the County; maintain the currency of policy and procedure manuals for both intra-library and inter-library activities; assure that subordinate staff operate in accordance with current policies and procedures; schedule work and maintain adequate staffing level; compile weekly timesheets and certify their accuracy; monitor job performance and prepare written evaluations; interpret library policy to patrons and subordinates; assist library patrons in locating and using library materials; answer basic reference questions referring higher level or more complicated questions to appropriate staff; identify and correct operational problems; resolve patron complaints or disputes; report in a timely fashion when problems with equipment or physical plant occur; plan and host library events; promote the library at public events; design promotional materials; plan and implement the maintenance of library computers and other technology; coordinate with third-party vendors, City, and Peninsula Library System information systems staff; troubleshoot technology malfunctions; plan and provide training on the use of technology to staff and patrons; and other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This classification is distinguished from all other Library classifications by its responsibility for program development and implementation in coordinating the day-to-day operation of a literacy program, and by the degree of initiative and independence necessary to oversee the coordination of resources and materials. The Administrative Services Supervisor oversees and coordinates the Library’s internal administrative operations that include, but are not limited to, finance, accounting, human resources, and Board Administration. The position supervises and directs administrative staff, and performs complex, confidential, and responsible administrative work. Serves as Clerk of the Board of Trustees and performs other related duties as required.

Position Duties

The Fleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for the management of the City’s fleet including comprehensive inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal. The City’s vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets.

The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill one (1) Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) position. The EMA I/II is responsible for performing inspections, communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation of electronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet management system, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment. While working under general supervision, the EMA I/II will be expected to perform safely and follow all rules required by the City of San Jose. These positions, depending on facility assignments, will require working various shift hours and overtime.

THE POSITION

Tri-City Mental Health Authority is currently hiring to fill one (1) full-time vacancy for the position of Clinical Supervisor I/II within the Mobile Crisis Care Program (MCCP). Tri-City’s MCCP is a 24/7 mobile crisis response team with shifts that may include evenings, weekends, daytime hours, and holidays.

The MCCP Clinical Supervisor I/II will be part of a team that provides crisis intervention and stabilization, linkage and referral, consultation, and education within the scope of practice. The MCCP Clinical Supervisor I/II will report to the Mobile Crisis Care Clinical Program Manager.

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Respond to client (Full-Service Partnership and Adult and Children’s Outpatient Programs and other specialty mental health services) crisis calls with or without law enforcement;
   
• Perform field-based and telephone emergency mental health evaluations and crisis stabilization in accordance with agency procedure.
   
•  Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services to individuals, groups, and families;
   
•  Identify treatment needs and make appropriate referrals for necessary services;
   
•  Perform triage and linkages to non-client community members in the Tri-City catchment areas.
   
•  The Clinical Supervisor incumbent must be available for consultation during and following crisis calls  as well as to fill in when back-up is needed in the field during scheduled work hours.
