The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Supervising Librarian at the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the physical facility; supervision, scheduling, performance management, and professional development of professional, technical, and support staff; and the generation and execution of creative, community-focused programmatic efforts. You will also provide direct public service to the library's users, delivering reference and reader advisory services to the community, as well as helping maintain a welcoming library environment for all users. A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from college or university with a Master's degree in Library Sciences and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements include the ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program's needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

In addition to qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have lead or supervisory experience.

THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community.  Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way), the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Avenue) and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (520 Tamarack Lane).  Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).  The City currently has one opening in this classification, for a position in the Youth Services Division providing programs and services at the Main Library.

THE POSITION

The current opening for this position is in Youth Services, with responsibilities overseeing youth programs, collections, and makerspace activities. Under general direction, the Library Program Manager II plans, organizes, manages, supervises and coordinates library-wide activities covering core library services in technical, public, and literacy service areas. Incumbents work under the general direction of the Library Director or Assistant Library Director and exercises direct supervision over supervisory, professional, technical, paraprofessional and clerical staff, and volunteers. Incumbents in this class may serve as Library Director in the department head’s absence; may function as the Library’s project manager for specialized projects; and perform related work as required.

The Library Program Manager is a professional managerial position requiring the possession of a high degree of technical knowledge and supervisory responsibilities and is characterized by the comprehensiveness and complexity of the programs administered. An incumbent in this classification demonstrates strong professional, service-oriented leadership and interpersonal skills.

The standard schedule is 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, plus one evening per week (11:00 am – 8:00 pm) and one Saturday per month (9:00 am – 5:30 pm).

• Library Assistant I: No specific education or experience is required.

• Library Assistant II: One year of public contact and support experience in a library.

PART-TIME LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time librarian who is passionate about public service, shows initiative, and has a strong work ethic to work the adult reference desk. This is a great opportunity to get experience in reference work and assisting patrons with their needs. You will work in a very fast-paced, collaborative environment.  

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

Will work at least one shift per week with additional sub hours available. Applicant must be able to work Saturday (9:15am - 5:15pm) and/or Sunday (11:30am - 5pm) and one weeknight until 8pm. 

Salary: $24.77 - $41.04/hour depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Staffing the Adult Reference Desk is the primary responsibility of this position. A knowledge of literature or the desire to read widely is essential in making book recommendations and understanding types of computers and assisting with technology troubleshooting is crucial. The Mill Valley Library is fast-paced and innovative; the person in this position needs to learn new skills quickly, adapt easily to change, be detail-oriented, and patron focused. Many part-time staff are cross trained to work in other Library departments as needed.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provide reference services including readers’ advisory. 
• Provide excellent customer service to all patrons with consistency and in line with library policies.
• Assist patrons troubleshooting technological issues on both library computers and personal devices.
• Help with programming as needed.
• Additional duties based on interests and demonstrated quality of work.

Tri-City is looking for individuals to serve as a Psychiatric Technician I/II (Licensed) on a full-time basis for the MCCP. The MCCP Psychiatric Technician will be part of a team that provides crisis intervention and stabilization, linkage and referral, consultation, and education within the scope of practice. The MCCP Psychiatric Technician will report to the Mobile Crisis Care Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Program Manager.

Tri-City’s MCCP operates 24/7 to provide crucial support in mobile crises. As such, the schedule will involve a 3/12 shift pattern, consisting of three twelve-hour days per workweek and one alternating eight-hour day every other week. Shifts may include evenings, weekends, daytime hours, and holidays.

The specific shift and schedule will be determined by the supervisor; however, the first one to two months of training will follow a 5-day-per-week, 40-hour-per-week schedule

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities, including, but are not limited to, the following:

Positions at the Psychiatric Technician I level may perform some of these duties and responsibilities in a learning capacity.

• Under the direction of clinical staff, provides medication management services to a caseload of clients in the office and in the field; ensures the proper acquisition and administration of medication.
• Provides education and training to clients, their families, and/or staff on the proper care and use of medications, including symptoms of, reactions to, or side effects of, specific medications; informs clients of the impact of abuse and/or misuse of medications.
• Conducts home/field visits to evaluate client’s physical environment and behavior such as anxiety, withdrawals, and behavioral health progression/regression.
• Takes and records measures of clients’ vital signs, physical condition, and behaviors; assists and observes clients self-dispense medication as prescribed by a psychiatrist and administers scheduled injections.
• Conducts medication checks on clients to assess their overall medication management capabilities; takes appropriate action if client poses danger with respect to the use or abuse of medication; observes, evaluates, records, and reports to professional staff changes in client’s condition.

The Teen Intern is an energetic and dependable individual who enjoys engaging with diverse children an families (ages 0-12) and teens (ages 12-18).  The Teen Intern will arrive on time with a positive attitude, is able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, communicate well with library staff and community members, and is open to learning new skills.  They are willing to begin and end each workday at the library, participate in off-site outreach, assist in preparing and breaking down materials for each shift, and help track program statistics.  Above all, they foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring all community members feel accepted at the library.

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Attend orientations and trainings.
• Set up pop-up outreach site, track book distribution, and lead interactive off-site program.

• Perform field-based and telephone emergency mental health evaluations and crisis stabilization in accordance with agency procedure;
• Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services to individuals, groups, and families;
• Identify treatment needs and make appropriate referrals for necessary services;
• Assist clients and relatives with understanding behavioral health problems and their reaction to them;
• Work on a multidisciplinary team for crisis response.
