Join us as a Community Service Officer (CSO) in the Berkeley Police Department! Community Service Officers are essential non-sworn members of BPD. By maintaining positive working relationships with City staff and the public, CSOs help build trust in our community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience, such as in-person, telephone, and written contacts indicating effective communication and customer service skills.

Previous volunteer or paid experience in law enforcement, emergency medical services, military service, probation, counseling or similar work requiring extensive public contact is highly desirable.

Other requirements include:

• Must successfully complete a psychiatric evaluation and a Police Department background investigation and medical evaluation.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
• Must be willing to work evening, graveyard, weekend, and holiday shifts for the 24 hour/day operational schedule.
• Must be able to obtain required Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification such as the Community Service Officer Academy, Jail Correction Course, which are conducted or recognized by the Berkeley Police Department, and accept and apply the principles learned in training.
• Must be physically able to perform the work including lifting heavy objects and controlling violent individuals, and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities for the successful completion of duties assigned to the position.

The City of Brisbane will be sponsoring up to four summer internships this year.  Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector.  You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship and to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.

Projects for 2024 include:

• Communications – Assist with developing innovative and relevant content for posting on City-administered social media sites, research and work with departments in developing articles for publication on the City’s website and print newsletter, and assist with aspects of video production including storyboarding, camera work, and script-writing.

• IT – Have some familiarity with programs such as Windows, Active Directory, Office/Microsoft 365. Must be able to disassemble and reassemble a PC. Projects will consist of adding and editing AD and email accounts and sorting and organizing hardware components. Some daily tasks will include responding to help desk requests and making basic equipment repairs and replacements.

• Human Resources - Offering learning opportunities by following a full recruitment and onboarding process. Assist with website updating; maintaining employee records; the conversion of physical records/forms to electronic format; and conducting research and analysis on HR-related topics.

• Public Works (Utilities) – Provide support to the City's Public Works Department - Utilities Division with various engineering projects in drinking water distribution, water resources, sanitary sewer collection, and storm drainage. Primary assignment will focus on mapping and geolocating drinking water facilities to comply with new state regulatory compliance.  Secondary assignments may include field engineering support on construction of capital utility projects and assisting on various engineering reports and studies.

Applicants must be college students currently enrolled in and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university in a related field (e.g. public administration, public policy, business, planning, library science, environmental studies, engineering, sustainability). Undergraduate candidates must have a minimum of 48 semester units or equivalent completed.  Applicants should also be self-motivated, have excellent interpersonal skills, able to use Microsoft Office software, demonstrate good research ability and have the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. 

SALARY AND HOURS: The salary range for Interns is $20.00 per hour, 15-18 hours per week over a 12-week period.  The start date is flexible depending on the student’s availability.

Waterfront Resilience Program (WRP)

The Waterfront Resilience Program (WRP) is a multi-decade, multi-hazard Program led by the Port of San Francisco with the goal of adapting the Bay waterfront along the Port’s 7.5-mile jurisdiction to address multiple hazards including coastal and combined flooding, sea level rise and earthquakes. The Port and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) released the San Francisco Waterfront Coastal Flood Study Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Impact Statement (Flood Study), including a $13.5 billion Draft Plan for adapting the waterfront for public review in February 2024. The Port is also implementing construction to mitigate risks that can be initiated in the near term (Early Projects) funded by Proposition A, the Seawall Earthquake Safety Bond, and other sources.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Waterfront Resilience Director, the Waterfront Resilience Program (WRP) Deputy Program Manager - Environmental develops the programmatic strategy for planning and execution of nature-based adaptation strategies, investigation and remediation of hazardous materials, and permitting and environmental review for all WRP activities through 2030 and beyond, including managing staff, consultants, and public and resource agency engagement.

This position is a key leadership position within the WRP, working collaboratively alongside the WRP Deputy Program Manager – Engineering & Project Delivery, WRP Deputy Program Manager – Planning, and WRP Flood Study Project Manager.

The essential functions of this position include:

• Oversees the planning and execution of nature-based adaptation strategies, including the Living Seawall Pilot and the Engineering with Nature Working Group in coordination with the Waterfront Resilience Program Deputy Program Manager – Planning and the Flood Study Project Manager. 
• Oversees the planning and execution of investigation and remediation of hazardous materials related to specific Early Projects and the USACE Flood Study.
• Oversees the planning and execution of environmental studies, including environmental review and analysis required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
• As a Program leader, sets the example of the Program culture of caring including, but not limited to, safety, inclusion, diversity, and equity.
• Coordinates input of Port staff into all relevant Early Project and Flood Study permitting and environmental review.
• In consultation with the Deputy Program Manager – Planning and the Flood Study Project Manager, develops and oversees the Engagement Plan for the Resource Agency Working Group, which includes a broad range of regulatory and resource agencies with jurisdiction over construction activities in San Francisco Bay.
• Collaborates with Deputy Program Manager – Engineering and Project Delivery to develop messaging and strategy with the permitting agencies (name them) related to Early Projects.
• Coordinates with City Planning Department (Environmental Planning) to conduct CEQA/NEPA for the Early Projects and the Flood Study and subsequent design and construction.
• Manages and approves the deliverables of environmental consultants.
• For the Flood Study, oversees the analysis and selection of the Least Damaging Practicable Alternative (LEDPA) under the Clean Water Act.
• Ensures strategic coordination and consultation on resilience permitting and regulatory issues for individual projects.
• Oversees the CEQA/NEPA effort for the USACE Flood Study which will be managed by the Flood Study Project Manager.
• Oversees environmental team input to design and environmental compliance during construction.
• Works collaboratively with all members of the WRP team to identify and resolve issues promptly, escalating issues for resolution to the Waterfront Resilience Director, the Assistant Port Director and the Port Director as required.
• Provides support and guidance to USACE Flood Study team members to deliver the Study.
• Supervises environmental and permitting staff assigned to the Waterfront Resilience Program.

THE POSITION

Tri-City is looking for one individual to serve as a Medical Assistant for the Medication Support Team. The Medical Assistant performs a variety of routine to moderately difficult clerical, administrative, and technical duties in support of licensed medical professionals; takes vital signs, obtains complete client medical histories, and performs various support duties such as entering data and information into various databases and computer systems; and performs related duties as assigned.

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Assists in the examination, treatment, and care of clients in an outpatient setting, according to instructions from licensed medical staff, Authority procedure, and scope of authority.

• Takes client vital signs, weight and height, and documents basic medical information obtained from client including medical and medication histories; reports any observed abnormalities or changes in client vitals to appropriate staff.

• Receives, logs, and stores oral, injectable, and sample medications; monitors inventory levels and expiration dates; discards of expired medications according to policy.

• Assists and observes clients self-dispense medication as prescribed by a  psychiatrist and administers scheduled injections.

• Conducts medication checks on clients to assess their overall medication management capabilities; takes appropriate action if client poses danger with respect to the use or abuse of medication; observes, evaluates, records, and reports to professional staff changes in client’s condition.

• Participates in interdisciplinary team treatment planning, staff training functions, utilization and peer review activities, and clinical supervision.

What You’ll Do

• Perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered apparatus, vehicles, hydraulic systems for aerial ladders, and other like equipment.
• Accept assignments received in the form or oral or written communications.
• Determine the nature and extent of needed repairs, prioritize them, and perform necessary repairs.
• Inspect all department vehicles to ensure they meet proper safety protocols and are in standard working order.
• Maintain all vehicles to ensure safe working order for all employees.
• Perform regular servicing and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and apparatus including performing tune-ups, lube, oil, filter, Inspection, and chassis lubrication.
