The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Housing Specialist I to join the Housing Division in the Community Development Department. Under direction of the Housing Officer, the Housing Specialist I will play a key role in the planning and development of new affordable housing, creating new housing programs, implementing the Housing Element, applying for grants/funding to support affordable housing, and monitoring housing legislation. The Housing Specialist I will perform technical and professional level planning and community development work, with an emphasis on creation and implementation of affordable housing programs. Midpen has one vacancy for the position of Field Resource Specialist. The start date for this position is December 2024.

• Field Resource Specialist will report to the Foothills Field Office (FFO) in the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve in Cupertino, CA, to the Foothills Area Manager.

About the Position:   The Field Resource Specialist is an exempt/salaried position, which is responsible for administering the principles and practices of public land management including: open space or undeveloped park maintenance, resource management including resource protection, managing budgets, prioritizing work tasks, and responding to public; stakeholder agencies; and other department inquiries. The Field Resource Specialist directs the day-to-day implementation of fuel reduction and vegetation management goals of Midpen’s Wildland Fire Resiliency Program. The Field Resource Specialist will support Midpen’s utilization of contractors and act as a point of contact for a wide variety of vegetation maintenance and management tasks. The successful performance of this work will require a working knowledge of a broad range of resource management trades and technical principles, as well as a professional background and the ability to coordinate work with other Midpen departments.  Candidates with background in fire risk prevention activities and vegetation management trades are desirable. • Possession of, or ability to obtain, the level of certification in the Incident Command System courses as specified under the National Incident Management System (NIMS) within 12 months of employment.

Work Environment/Working Conditions:

Under the supervision of the Volunteer Program Manager in the Visitor Services Department, this position will primarily report out of a designated Midpen field office (Cupertino and/or La Honda), which will include volunteer projects and administrative tasks. This position also works from home approximately one day per week (as approved) and occasionally at the Administration office in Los Altos.  Volunteer initiatives directed by this role may take place across various preserves requiring regular travel to and from the locations.  The Volunteer Program Lead’s schedule requires working at least one weekend day as part of the regular work week schedule, with an option to be on a 9/80 schedule after an initial training period plus occasional evenings and holidays.

The Volunteer Program Lead is a fairly independent position that supports the work of one or more departments within the agency, requiring solo work in the field, frequent site visits, and hiking steep terrain in wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife. Field work will also require driving a District truck in remote areas on unimproved dirt roads in inclement weather conditions. Work in the field may also include exposure to loud noise levels, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes.

Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment including some full days of program administrative tasks using various software programs and applications on a computer, phone, or tablet.

Additionally, candidates should be familiar with the principles and practices of trail building, construction, repair, and maintenance, including site planning and resource protection as well as the tools and equipment required for maintaining and repairing open spaces and related facilities.

This position wears a prescribed District uniform and adheres to strict safety procedures and work habits. Depending on the exposure, employees may be required to wear head, hearing, eye, foot, face, hand, or other protection equipment.

The Santa Clara County Housing Authority (SCCHA) is seeking a Risk Analyst to join our highly collaborative and dedicated team in advancing the Housing Authority’s risk management and insurance programs. The Risk Analyst will have the opportunity to expand their expertise in risk management, insurance programs, and property mitigation. DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Parks and Recreation Department provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the City's neighborhood parks, open space, water sites, recreation buildings, and trails.

The Position:

Under supervision, to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in connection with the development and maintenance of City parks and recreational facilities.

As an As-needed Laborer, the successful incumbent will work in the department, performing routine maintenance on various parks and facilities including the city-owned cemetery. This position will assist in maintenance and repair using a variety of tools and specialized equipment. 

The Laborer position performs varied, unskilled and skilled manual tasks related to landscape maintenance and sanitization. Typical tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and buildings, loading trash and leaves in truck, litter abatement, mowing, edging, cleaning park sites, graffiti abatement, and operating a variety of hand/power tools and heavy equipment as needed. This position may require working weekends, holidays, and after hours. Must be able to read, speak, and write English at a basic level, follow written and oral instruction, and perform heavy lifting.  

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Performs construction, maintenance and sanitation duties as required; and does related work as required.

Sufficient education to provide the ability to read, write and speak English at a basic level.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders II/III assigned to the Adaptive Program. The main goal of the City of Gilroy’s Recreation Division is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents. 
 
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program area focus is Adaptive (Special Needs), but you might be asked to support another recreation area.

 When assigned to the Adaptive Program, the leader will have an opportunity to have hands-on experience working with a special needs population.  Disabilities of participants vary in range from non-communicative to diminished motor skills to severe autism.  The position will report to an experienced staff member.  As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee’s performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.

The Position:
The Recreation Specialist is the highest classification in the Recreation Leader series.  An incumbent in this class possesses technical expertise in a specialty such as cultural arts, physical fitness, drama, older adults, athletics, therapeutics, music, pre school, day camp, teen activities, and youth sports and is responsible for the planning, development, and supervision of a specialized activity phase of recreation programs .  With general policy and departmental philosophy guidance from a supervisor, an incumbent exercises sound independent judgment in the performance of duties. The Recreation Specialist is distinguished from the Recreation Instructor in that the former has an emphasis on developing and supervising large groups of children in specialized recreation activities while the latter is responsible for developing class curriculum and teaching classroom activities.

Under direction:
• Plans, initiates, organizes, and supervises an extensive program of recreation activities in an area of expertise
• Investigates, recommends, demonstrates, and explains techniques, procedures, materials, equipment and supplies used in the special activity program
• Prepares program instructions and materials ; develops projects for inclusion in the community wide recreation program
• Receives and reviews reports, suggestions, and complaints from staff and program participants
• Maintains records and accounts of attendance, inventory, financial charges and receipts, personnel, special events, accidents, and other matters requiring systematic recording
• May supervise and train lower-level personnel in the activities comprising the specialty
• Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• One thousand (1000) hours of experience in recreation leadership at the level of Recreation Leader III in general recreation programs such as day camp, sports, teens, older adults, and theater; and
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application

Possible Substitutions
• Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university, preferably with an emphasis in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field may be substituted for the required experience

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of the following is desirable:
• A valid California Class C driver's license
• A valid American Red Cross First Aid certificate

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• As a condition of employment, incumbents will be required to be fingerprinted in accordance with State of California law
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

The Department:
The Parks Division provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of City parks and open spaces. The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. We aim to promote the use of safe, clean, and attractive facilities for enjoyment and quality of life for all ages and abilities. The Cemetery Division maintains 33,000 internment sites in a peaceful public park.  
 
The Position:
Providing customer service at Recreation Facility Front Desk (CRC, YAC, Senior Center, Reed & Grant Sports Park, Warburton and ISC Pools). The job responsibilities include data input, processing program registrations, opening and closing the desk reception area and keeping accurate records of daily sales. Daily check in of patrons, adhering to established protocols and ensuring the safety of customers as they enter and exit the facilities. Work assignment shifts will include, days, evenings and weekends.

The Recreation Office Assistant has an emphasis on performing a variety of clerical and customer service duties at a recreation facility.  An incumbent in this classification is responsible for demonstrating a high level of customer service while performing basic clerical duties including financial transactions, maintaining documents, and assisting others.  Assignments are generally limited in scope, contain fairly routine duties, and are performed within a procedural framework established by higher-level employees.
