THE POSITION

Rocklin Police Officers perform law enforcement and crime prevention duties involved in the protection of life and property; perform traffic control and enforce state and local traffic regulations; perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of law enforcement services and activities; and perform related duties as assigned. An example of duties are:

• Assumes responsibility for the preservation of the public peace and the protection of life and property by preventing crime and enforcing all laws.
• Patrols an assigned area in an automobile, other vehicle, or on foot for the purpose of preventing criminal activity and enforcing traffic laws and regulations; issues citations and makes arrests as necessary; responds to calls for protection of life and property and performs enforcement duties.
• Conducts interviews with victims, complainants, witnesses, and suspects; searches crime scenes for evidence; collects, packages, and preserves evidence; testifies in court.
• Detects, pursues, apprehends, and arrests or detains persons involved in crimes or misconduct; confronts and arrests violent combative subjects; books and transports prisoners; serves warrants and subpoenas.
• Conducts preliminary or follow-up investigations; prepares reports on arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed.
• Directs traffic and/or performs crowd control during special events and in emergency situations.
• Perform field training officer duties as assigned.
• Coordinates and cooperates with outside agencies, other law enforcement agencies, and organizations to provide information or assistance as needed.
• Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
• Actively develops and fosters community partnerships and demonstrates integrity and professionalism within the organization and community.
• Represents the City and the department in a courteous, professional manner

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by 30 college-level semester units from a regionally accredited educational institution;

AND

Current employment as a full-time, sworn peace officer in a California POST participating law enforcement department or agency AND one (1) year of full-time experience as a sworn law enforcement officer in a California POST participating law enforcement department or agency;

OR

Current employment as a full-time, sworn peace officer in another state AND one (1) year of fulltime experience as a sworn law enforcement officer AND possess a Basic Course Waiver from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Possession of a POST Basic Certificate or possession of a Basic Course Waiver from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

Working Conditions

Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation.

Must be willing to work emergencies as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Must meet physical, psychological, and background standards established by POST as well as ongoing peace officer requirements pursuant to federal, state, and local legislation. This classification requires wearing respiratory protective equipment at times. When assigned to such work, facial hair must be shaven when it interferes with the safe fitting of respiratory protective equipment. This classification functions as a peace officer within the authority and limits of California Penal Code Sections 830.1(a) and 832.

This vacancy is specifically for the Field Operations CSO position.

The City of Foster City is looking for a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Police Department as a Senior Community Services Officer. This position requires mature judgement and discretion and is given specialized training. We are seeking highly skilled individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Under general supervision, this position supplements administrative staff and provides support for sworn staff in police operations. There are four main assignment areas for the position, but currently there is only one vacancy in Field Operations.

Field Operations Assignment:
Performs vehicle abatement duties, provides parking enforcement, performs evidence collection and processing in accordance with departmental procedures, prepares police and operational reports. Responds to subpoenas as necessary. Handle a variety of department fleet maintenance and equipment maintenance duties; run errands in support of department operations, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education:  A high school diploma or equivalent with courses in office administration or specialized job training, with undergraduate college course work, specialized administrative or law enforcement education and/or training. An associate degree is desirable.

Experience:  Two (2) years of full-time experience using computers, telephones, radios and other modern office equipment and programs including preparing, compiling and distributing records, budgets, reports and statistical information. Prior experience in Property/Evidence is desirable.

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a good driving record.

Selection Process

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Ferry Mechanic performs preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, and modifications on structural, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and control systems found on ferry vessels and passenger terminals; performs related work as assigned. Responsibilities include record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.
 

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications.
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component.
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• References manufacturer schematics including blueprints, drawings and specifications to resolve maintenance issues.
• References parts catalogues and other sources to determine correct parts for specific applications.
• Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed.
• Documents and records work performed and parts and materials used in the electronic maintenance system. 
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible.
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay.
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner.
• Operate a forklift and other equipment/vehicles safely.
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service. 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance required. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: 

• Completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program, or approved equivalent as a heavy equipment or marine mechanic OR four (4) years of progressively responsible journey level full-time work experience performing to the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment which should include mechanical, electrical or welding repair, and at least one year in an industrial environment.
• Experience in corrective and preventative maintenance records using a computer-based maintenance management information system
• Experience in utilizing MS Windows based software for data entry, work order processing and materials requisitioning

 

Required License:  

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record (Operates District Vehicles).
• No DUI’s or Reckless Driving codes within the last 7 years. 
• No more than two moving violations within the last 3 years.

 

Required Tools:

• Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work.

 

Hours:

• Shifts are scheduled based on seniority.
• The Ferry Maintenance Department operates 7 days per week, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s day.
• Must be available to work all shifts; some overtime maybe required to handle emergencies.

 

Physical Requirement:  

Requires frequent and extensive physical activities such as: lifting and manipulating up to 50 lbs., bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, climbing, gripping, and other movements related to essential duties. Work around fumes, odors and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to wear a respirator and be fit tested. Must wear hearing protections when performing certain duties.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of:  

• Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position. 
• Monitoring and inspection of propulsion and auxiliary machinery and other supporting systems (i.e., electrical, plumbing, electronics, hydraulics and HVAC in a commercial application.
• Maintenance and troubleshooting principles and best practices.

 

Skill in or Ability to:

• Understand, read and communicate (both orally and in writing) in Standard English.
• Interpreting and applying oral and written instructions in a consistent manner.
• Reading and reasoning skills to aid in troubleshooting equipment, understanding manufacture and engineering schematics and system drawings.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Machine shop fabrication skills, familiar with lathe and mill use for the purpose of modification and fabrication of components.
• Welding, steel and aluminum, in shop setting and on-site.
• Electrical/electronic systems, motor controllers, power distribution, PLCs, and ability to troubleshoot the same.
• Off-highway and/or marine diesel engine operation and maintenance

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Public Works Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Operates hand and power tools, light and heavy construction equipment and specialized wastewater equipment. Handles and applies chemicals. Maintains, operates, inspects, repairs and installs water distribution system facilities including piping, storage tanks, meters, hydrants, valves, pressure reducing stations, pumping stations, pumps, controls, measuring devices, cathodic protection systems, communication systems, and related appurtenances.

Education and Training Guidelines:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance or construction; completion of high school or the equivalent.

The City of Rocklin is excited to announce a recruitment for Police Officer Trainees. The City will be hiring recruits to send to the Police Academy.

The successful candidates will be hired as a Police Officer Trainee and must successfully complete a twenty-four (24) week P.O.S.T. Basic Course Police Academy. The academy is not a live-in academy and the selected candidate must be able to commute to the academy location daily.

Upon satisfactory graduation from a P.O.S.T. Basic Course Police Academy, a Police Recruit meeting the requirements of the Police Officer classification shall be advanced to the career classification of Police Officer.

Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation to be considered for this position. Candidates must be 21 years of age at time of academy graduation. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law. Candidates must meet physical, psychological, and background standards established by POST as well as ongoing peace officer requirements pursuant to federal, state, and local legislation.

All candidates must either submit a PELLET-B score dated June of 2023 or later or must participate in the City of Rocklin's test administration.

Physical Agility Test
 

The City of Rocklin does not accept physical agility scores from other agencies. You must participate in and pass our agility test to advance in the selection process. The Physical Agility Test includes a 99 yard obstacle course; a fence climb - both a six (6) foot solid fence and six (6) foot chain link fence will be assessed, a body drag of a 165lb dummy approximately 32 feet, and a 500 yard run. 

3. Structured Oral Examination

The top candidates that successfully pass both the written and physical ability examinations may be invited to participate in an oral panel interview. 

DEFINITION
Under immediate supervision, actively participates in the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) prescribed police training academy; performs all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Police Officer classification; and performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the non-sworn, entry-level classification in the Police Officer class series responsible for learning and becoming proficient in the understanding of law enforcement tasks, policies, procedures, and standards. Upon successful completion of the police academy training program, incumbents may be appointed to the sworn classification of Police Officer.

This class is distinguished from the Police Officer classification in that the latter is the sworn, journey-level class in the series that has responsibility for preserving public peace, protection of life and property, prevention of crime; and enforcement of all laws.

 

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
 

• Attends the police academy and actively participates in all studies, assignments, and tasks.
• Completes all required assignments, tests, and follows all instructions relative to the academy curriculum and behavior.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. The incumbents will be assigned to oversee various subdivisions such as Streets, Streams, Storm Drains, Street Lighting, and Motor Pool programs.

 

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

 

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and an annual operating budget of $4.6 million, along with a FY2023-2028 CIP appropriation of $ 8.6 million.

The Department of Public Works (PW) is comprised of approximately 50 employees with a general budget of $15 million and a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget that ranges between $10–$40 million depending on the City’s annual infrastructure needs. Its mission is to ensure San Rafael’s infrastructure meets the needs of a vibrant and growing city through careful management of major improvements and the maintenance of the City’s assets. By hiring highly trained, dedicated, responsive, and service-oriented personnel, the DPW is actively making its mission a reality.

Recently, the Department underwent a process of restructuring as management of all City engineers was placed under the Assistant Director for enhanced oversight, communication, and workflow. The City has recently championed the Dean Allison Award internship program, which shepherds talented young graduates into local government and encourages engagement with the public sector of California. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE will have strong organizational, planning, communication, and leadership skills that allow them to effectively manage different aspects of public works operations and maintenance. They will also have a strong sense of customer service and the ability to help find solutions to complex service issues. UPCOMING PROJECTS & INITIATIVES:

• Public Works will be implementing computerized asset and maintenance management software that will require significant change management within operations and maintenance. The superintendent will play a key role in the implementation and change management of this technology.
• It is a goal to implement safety and developmental programs that engage, educate and train staff for their current and future roles. The superintendent will assist with the development and management of these programs.
• Improving service delivery is a constant challenge. The superintendent will assist with finding creative ways to improve service delivery that benefits internal and external stakeholders.

 

THE POSITION:

This position is part of the Represented Mid-Managers group and is “at will”.  Employment may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time by the City of San Rafael. 

 

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to operations and maintenance staff, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing feedback and coaching.
• Foster a positive and productive work environment that encourages teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth.
• Develop and implement operational plans, policies, and procedures to ensure the efficient delivery of services.
• Coordinate with other City departments and external agencies to prioritize and schedule operations activities, including street maintenance, park maintenance/landscaping, facility upkeep/repair, fleet maintenance/replacement, and utility services.
• Oversee the planning and execution of maintenance activities for city infrastructure assets, including streets, sidewalks, parks, buildings, vehicles, and utilities.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of maintenance projects.
• Monitor the condition of infrastructure assets and develop strategies for preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain accurate records and inventory of city-owned infrastructure assets, including condition assessments, maintenance history, and replacement schedules.
• Develop and implement asset management strategies to optimize the lifecycle of infrastructure assets and maximize return on investment.
• Prepare reports and presentations on asset performance, budget projections, and recommendations for capital improvements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, codes, and standards governing public works operations and maintenance activities.
• Coordinate safety program for department staff ensuring proper training and protocol.
• Obtain necessary permits, licenses, and approvals for maintenance projects and activities, and ensure timely renewal and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for information from the public, elected officials, and regulatory agencies regarding operations and maintenance issues.
• Performs related duties as required

 

To be eligible for this position, you must have knowledge of/ability to:

• Principles and practices of supervision (including selection, employee evaluation, counseling and motivation of employees), work planning, and control, budgeting, planning, scheduling, estimating and directing work. 
• Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance of Streets, Parks, Facilities and Vehicles.
• Techniques and City processes for planning, specifying, and requisition materials, supplies and equipment, and administering contracts. 
• City personnel and administrative policies and procedures. 
• Memorandum of Understanding and related documents governing working conditions. 
• Safe working practices. 
• Supervise several work units through supervisors. 
• Plan, schedule, assign, appraise and counsel employees.

• Read and interpret construction plans, specifications and engineering drawings and diagrams.
• Occasionally participate in work supervised. 
• Work on an on-call basis during emergencies. 
• Direct, perform inspections, and supervise work outdoors in inclement weather, underground, and in unpleasant or potentially hazardous conditions. 
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
• Work safely in potentially hazardous conditions.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.  A typical way to obtain these would be:

• Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented with training/education in supervisory principles.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in streets maintenance and repair, parks maintenance, facilities maintenance and/or vehicle maintenance, including a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
• Training/experience in database management and/or experience using database systems is highly desirable.
• Ability to converse in Spanish is preferable
• Valid California Driver’s License
