Job Description

Under the supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor I, the Pile Worker performs a variety of manual work in the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures by removing and replacing decayed and/or damaged caps, stringers, and decking; pulling, driving, framing, and bolting piles; burning old bolts; and repairing docks. Inspects piling underwater, wraps damaged piles and identifies severely damaged piles for replacement. Performs underwater burning, welding, and rigging for underwater projects.

For positions that require diving ability, incumbent must hold a current commercial diving certification. Diving ability includes performing underwater diving work including the ability to inspect underwater piles, wrap damaged piles, cut piles, prep and grout concrete piles, install anodes, designate severely damaged piles for replacement, perform underwater burning, welding, and rigging and familiarity with CAL OSHA regulations related to diving.

The essential duties of the 9330 Pile Worker include but are not limited to:

• Placing, driving, and capping piles.
• Placing stringers, sawing, and laying decking.
• Tearing out decayed and damaged decking, stringers, caps, and pilings.
•  Boring holes and framing timbers.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver and/or truck crane.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver by setting up, tearing down, and resetting rigging.
• Making minor repairs to piledriver machinery and equipment.
• Fabricating rigging, both wire rope or synthetic line such as block and tackles, slings, chokers, pennants, and related gear.
• Building, maintaining and using floats, pontoons, or work boats in the maintenance and repair of piers and docks.
• Building and maintaining floats, pontoons, workboats, and rafts.
• Loading and/or unloading piles, timbers, or debris to or from trucks or barges.
• Assisting the dive crew by sending down equipment and tools.
• Using international code of hand signals to signal instructions to the Piledriver Engine Operator.
• Using and maintaining pneumatic and portable gas tools.
• Operating forklifts, vehicles, and boats
• Using and maintaining a wide variety of pneumatic and portable gas tools such as drills, sanders, wrenches, saws, forklifts, torches, boring machines, and other related tools.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Some positions require diving ability - for positions that perform underwater diving, candidates are required to pass a medical qualification examination to dive and for the use of a respirator. Sustained physical effort, frequently underwater and under adverse weather conditions such as in rain, rough water, cold temperatures (water and air) and confined spaces; moving large heavy timbers; operating a skiff; and driving Port vehicles; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and support dive gear and apparatus from 100 to 150 pounds.  

Qualifications

Experience

Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience as a pile worker.

For diving positions only: One (1) year of commercial construction diver experience in addition to the experience described above for a total of five (5) years of experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

For diving positions only: Possession of a current certification as a commercial diver by an Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE) accredited dive school.

Desirable Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with wood, steel and concrete pier construction and marine pile driving operations.
• Experience working on a barge crane conducting pile driving operations.

Job Description

This position performs preventive, routine and emergency maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy and light industrial and marine equipment, related systems and components. Extra Help - Extra-help positions are short-term employment for up to 1040 hours which is equivalent to about six months; however, employment might end sooner depending on the needs of the hiring departments. Extra-help assignments are at-will and the employee is paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra-help workers are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment.

Term - Term positions are designated for a specific and limited period of time, anywhere from 6 months to a maximum of 3 years depending on the assignment. Benefits package for term positions are similar to regular positions EXCEPT for retirement. Term employees receive a 401A retirement package and are not eligible for retiree health benefits or a defined benefit pension.

Unclassified - Unclassified positions are at-will for a limited duration, typically associated with grant or other special funding. Medical Services Assistants II who are assigned to the clinics and perform advanced patient care duties as defined in the classification specification shall receive a differential of 6.2% in addition to all other compensation.
 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Accurately take and record the condition, respiration, pulse, temperature and blood pressure of patients; record other pertinent information as observed or measured.
• Apply non-sterile dressings and administer non-medicated treatments under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, surgeon, podiatrist, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
• Carry out rehabilitation procedures as directed by therapists; perform a range of motion body movement with/for patients; position and exercise patients.
• Assist in therapeutic milieu programs.

• Operate various types of sterilization equipment.
• Transport specimens, medical records and related items.

With additional training and/or certification(s), some employees may perform the following duties under conditions required by code and department policy:

• Perform injections including immunizations.
• Perform finger stick tests of all types including glucose testing.
• Perform skin tests including PPDs.
• Perform venipuncture and blood draws.

• Perform waived CLIA tests including dipstick UAs, and pregnancy tests.
• Provide for proper tracking and recording of laboratory tests.
• Take patient histories including risk factors.

Qualifications

Certification Requirement:
Possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate or a certificate of completion or degree from an accredited medical assisting program is required. A certificate of completion of an approved medical assisting program must be submitted at the time of application.

Bilingual Fluency:
Some positions may require bilingual skills. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to be considered for a bilingual position.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:

One year of experience in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office as a nurse's assistant or medical assistant.

Knowledge of:

• Principles, techniques and procedures specific to area of assignment.

Job Description

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician supports the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients served by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Assists registered pharmacists in performing nonprofessional duties in an institutional pharmacy; receives, inspects, stores, and fills orders for pharmaceutical supplies. Nature of work involves continuous close attention to detail and some potential exposure to hazardous substances.

Under supervision, the Pharmacy Technician performs the following essential job functions:

• Accurately prepares unit dose medications, compounds a variety of pharmaceuticals under the supervision of a Pharmacist, including intravenous admixtures according to proper aseptic technique and in accordance with, professional standards and departmental policies and procedures, in order to maintain required levels of supply and to provide patients with needed medications;
• Prepares or repackages drugs and pharmaceuticals under the supervision of a Pharmacist, in amounts needed to fill written orders/prescriptions in order to provide patients with needed medication and to maintain required levels of supply;
• Prepares medication labels based on written orders from physicians and other professional staff according to California State Board of Pharmacy requirements;
• Records billing information for accurate and appropriate billing of patients for medications, involving use of desktop computer keyboard for entering medication orders and billing information;
• Maintains drug and pharmaceutical stock levels by counting and checking stores of drugs and pharmaceuticals against standard, pre-set stock levels, ordering and verifying deliveries against invoices to ensure accuracy; 
• Inspects and stores delivered stock in the pharmacy patient care areas by sorting and shelving them for optimal retrieval;
• Delivers, retrieves, and exchanges medications and pharmaceutical items to and from specified areas, or for dispensing by cart to ensure that clinical and patient needs are met;
• Provides information to patients, public and other healthcare providers within the scope of Technician activities through a variety of methods, including personal contact, at the Pharmacy window, in patient care areas, and by telephone or video.  This does not include medication counseling or providing drug information; 
• Orients and trains new personnel, pharmacy students, or others on departmental policies and procedures appropriate to a Technician’s scope of work;
• Uses, maintains, and troubleshoots automated dispensing equipment or relevant pharmacy-related software and other equipment necessary for pharmacy operations;
• Accurately prepares, dispenses, and documents controlled substance orders, and maintains accurate inventory records.

The 2409 Pharmacy technician also performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

1.   Experience: One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience (in the last 5 years) assisting in the preparation of drug and pharmaceutical items in a licensed pharmacy;

AND

2.   License: Possession of a valid Pharmacy Technician License/Registration issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy. (Please attach a copy)

• License status must be "Current" according to search.dca.ca.gov/

Substitution: Possession of a valid Intern Pharmacist License/Registration issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy may substitute for the required experience and license.

Notes:

1. One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.
