Public Safety Records Specialist I

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for the position of Public Safety Records Specialist I for the Department of Public Safety. The Public Safety Records Specialist is responsible for performing a wide variety of administrative, technical, and clerical records support duties in the Records Division of the Department of Public Safety, including the maintenance of records and files, processing of data and reports, critical time-sensitive data entry, providing support to sworn personnel, and providing information to the public, outside agencies and departmental staff; and performs related work as required. The Records Division is staffed on a seven day/week, 24 hour/day schedule, including weekends and holidays.

The Position

The Planning Intern will support the Community Development Department - Planning Division with research-based projects and assist staff with minor permit review. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in municipal planning, exposure to development review processes, and an understanding of how planning policies are implemented at the local level. The intern will work closely with planning staff and gain practical insight into zoning, land use regulations, and public-sector planning operations.

Duties: The primary projects will most likely include the following:

•    Conduct research related to land use planning, zoning regulations, and special planning initiatives
•    Assist planning staff with minor permit review
•    Help organize and analyze planning data, maps, and project materials
•    Prepare summaries and other written materials to support planning projects
•    Assist with updating planning documents, handouts, and internal resources

Minimum Qualifications

Description

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a high-performing Senior Planner to lead complex development and long-range planning initiatives in one of Southern California’s most desirable communities. The City of Sausalito is seeking candidates who have a passion for planning and building, love people, and are avid learners to fill one full-time Permit Technician position to serve the Planning and Building Divisions in the Community Development Department.

Sausalito employees in this unit work four nine-hour days, Monday - Thursday for 36 hours a week.

The successful candidate will work seamlessly supporting the Planning team, Code Enforcement, the Building Inspector, and Chief Building Official in processing permit applications and in providing public counter services for both the planning and building divisions of the Community Development Department. 

The Building and Planning Permit Technician processes permits, issues over the counter permits, collects fees, advises the public, routes and collects plans to and from appropriate departments or consultants, reviews basic drawings and plans and permit packages for completeness, and performs related administrative/general office support and other duties as assigned to support both the building and planning divisions of the community development department. The class title for this position is Permit Technician.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

We are active in county-wide law enforcement efforts by participating in the San Mateo County Gang Task Force, Avoid the 23 (DUI) Task Force, Narcotic Task Force Details, Alcohol Beverage Control Operations, Office of Traffic Safety grants and as Police Academy Training Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Patrol various areas within the City by driving a police vehicle or by walking to prevent criminal activity, to enforce various laws, regulations, and codes.

Entry Level - Proof of completing the POST Written Test and Physical Agility Test with a passing score.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.

POSITION

Process court ordered registrants.  Collect pertinent data from police reports and input data into computer.  Make presentations in small and large group settings.  Assist in producing monthly, quarterly and yearly crime statistics reports.  Assist in analyzing statistical data to develop crime patterns. Publish understandable crime information for law enforcement staff.  Coordinate facility maintenance activities and repairs.  Develop and maintain facility tracking systems.  Issue required equipment to both sworn and non-sworn personnel.  Order new and replacement equipment as needed.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Administer first aid in emergencies. Work off-duty hours as assigned. Assist in training of less experienced personnel.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.  Additional college course work or vocational training is highly desirable.

Experience:  Two (2) years of general administrative office work experience or one year of administrative office work in a law enforcement agency. Prefer experience with substantial public interaction.

License or Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver's license.

SALARY

$4,823.53 - $6,156.18 /month
$2,226.24 - $2,841.32 /bi-weekly
$27.83 - $35.52 /hour
