ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting a Senior Planner position in the Community Development Department. In this exciting opportunity, the Senior Planner is poised to make a significant impact towards building a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive city for all. The Senior Planner will be assigned full responsibility for a variety of complex planning projects and entitlement permits, performing high-level professional planning duties using independent judgement in analyzing work and making recommendations and important decisions. Additional tasks include aiding applicants and the general public. Related duties and functions include project initiation, preparation, analysis, stakeholder coordination, environmental review, presentations, and enforcement. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Responding to public inquiries related to land-use and property development regulations. 
• Providing solution-oriented customer service to support economic development opportunities whenever possible. 
• Reviewing land-use entitlement applications (e.g. tentative map, conditional use permit, annexation, general plan amendment, architectural & site review permits) for conformance with adopted policies and regulations. 
• Administering the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for environmental review related to planning and development proposals. 
• Implementing and updating the General Plan and Zoning Ordinance. 
• Providing staff support for the Planning Commission, as needed
• Resolving land-use related violations through Code Enforcement. 

FIRST YEAR PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:

• Complete Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Update 
• Complete Historic Resource Inventory Update and create Mills Act monitoring procedures 
• Manage a range of the more complex applications, including subdivisions, architectural and site review applications, and General Plan/Zoning amendments
• Build subject matter expertise in ADU development, housing policy, CEQA compliance and equity-based community development

What You'll Do

• Support the Police Department by ensuring that critical systems and hardware are working smoothly. Exercise problem solving as needed to ensure minimal impact to operations.  
• Assist in the design, deployment, and maintenance of telecommunication systems, both through routine maintenance and responding to issues as needed.  
• Install network infrastructure, including wireless equipment, hubs, switches, cabling, servers, and peripherals.

The Essentials:

The educational/experience requirements can be satisfied in one of the following ways: 

- Equivalent to an associate’s degree or have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter units at an accredited college or university in business information systems in computer science or related field, plus five years experience in management information systems. Some assignments may require specialized systems experience such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and XML, PHP, and structured query language (SQL).

- A technology certificate from an accredited college or trade school in information technology, computer applications, web technologies, computer information systems, application development database design, programming, technology project management, or related field and five years of experience in private-sector or public-sector positions in information technology, including systems analysis work and development, system integration, or project management.
 

- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in computer science or a related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience comparable to that of an Information Technology Analyst I in the City of Mountain View. Some assignments may require specialized systems experience such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and XML, PHP, and structured query language (SQL).

Highly Desirable:  

• Possession of Advanced Microsoft, VMWare Certified Professional (VSP), CCNP and/or LINUX certifications. 
• Experience in radio communication systems
• Experience in a Public Safety environment supporting applications like CAD/RMS/Mobile data computer systems.

• The control point for this position is $152,958. The full range for this position is $122,367 - $183,550 and the full range is posted to comply with California law. That said, successful candidates can realistically expect a starting offer between $122,367 and $144,000, depending on qualifications. No matter where the starting offer falls, employees will have the opportunity to get annual merit increases for stellar performance.

The City of Sebastopol is seeking a dynamic, professional leader who is a collaborative problem-solver to serve as the next Planning Director. The Planning Director will direct, oversee, and materially participate in the work of the City’s Planning Department, including current and long-range planning, maintenance of the General Plan, Housing Element, and zoning codes, and review of proposals for construction and development within the City of Sebastopol. The selected candidate will coordinate activities, permits, and projects with other City departments. The Planning Director performs professional planning duties in the fields of long-range planning, current planning, and building permitting, including a variety of diverse professional planning assignments. A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.

• Salary: $6,681 - $8,612 per month.
