About the Role

The Human Resources Manager is a strategic leader and hands-on manager, combining vision with day-to-day responsibility for all facets of the City’s HR operations. Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in personnel, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional human resources experience, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead capacity, are required. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California driver’s license is also required. Experience in public sector HR or labor relations is highly desirable. Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $132,749 to $162,905. Remote work is not available for this position. The City is proud to offer a competitive total compensation package with the following highlights:

POSITION

Perform routine non-hazardous police office activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of Law Enforcement organizational structure. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer conflict resolution skills, and writing skills, as well as be competent with computers and related software, e.g., report management, and MS Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of principles, codes, regulations and laws governing records management of a police department.  Additionally, the Ideal Candidate will have a strong work ethic, ability to multitask, prioritize, knowledge of complex filing systems, and be available for shift work.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Process and maintain a variety of police records, files, forms, and manuals. Issues, receives, types, and processes various applications, permits, and other forms; processes warrants, permits, and citations; collects and processes fees and charges. Entries and modifications into a state and nationwide system. Processes police reports including receiving, reviewing, copying, distributing, filing, and making corrections as applicable. Logs subpoenas; collects, posts, and distributes department mail.  Answers a multi-line telephone system, providing information or routing calls to appropriate individuals. Greets the general public, giving information on the department and answering routine questions. Types, proofreads, and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, memos, and legal documents. Operates standard office equipment including computer remote terminals. Creates and maintains files and databases. Provides fingerprint services for applicants and voluntary bookings. Performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

File routine reports and correspondence; perform general clerical duties using typewriter and word processor.  Respond to citizen requests for information and assistance.  Complete minor reports as required. Retrieve and input data into computer terminal. Receive calls and take messages. Accumulate data and prepare monthly statistical reports.  Process requests for copies of reports from both citizens and other criminal justice agencies. Inventory supplies and order when necessary.  Process monies and fees via the cash register, prepare licenses and permits, prepare and issue bills, complete citation sign-offs.  Prepare correspondences to victims of crime.  Complete and prepare background and record checks.  Process voluntary bookings and court ordered registrations.  Perform fingerprinting and Live Scan digital printing.  Assist in the transportation of property and evidence. Assist in preparation for the auction of property. Purge files. Provide relief for full-time Community Services Officers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One (1) year of general administrative office work experience OR six (6) months of administrative office work in a law enforcement agency. Prefer experience with substantial public interaction.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license required upon hire.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

We are active in county-wide law enforcement efforts by participating in the San Mateo County Gang Task Force, Avoid the 23 (DUI) Task Force, Narcotic Task Force Details, Alcohol Beverage Control Operations, Office of Traffic Safety grants and as Police Academy Training Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Patrol various areas within the City by driving a police vehicle or by walking to prevent criminal activity, to enforce various laws, regulations, and codes.

Candidates must be a US Citizen, at least 21 years of age on date of appointment, a US high school graduate (or GED equivalent), have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.  Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, read, comprehend, write, and speak English effectively.

Entry Level - Proof of completing the POST Written Test and Physical Agility Test with a passing score.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.

POLICE OFFICER - Academy Graduate - $8,419 to $11,416 per month (up to $13,128 with incentives)

The Position

 
The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for entry-level Public Safety Dispatchers.  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining
a high level of confidentiality.  Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions.  This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.  

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties

• Receives and transmits emergency
  and non-emergency
  telephone and radio traffic.  

• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs.

• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records.

• Responsible for accurate and timely entries into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS), as well as, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks:
  records entry, assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions. 

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

 

Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation. 
 
Education

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Additional related college course work or degree preferred.

Experience

• At least one (1) year of related work experience requiring alertness and independent judgment, but no previous public safety dispatch experience is required.

Certificates and Licenses

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Class C with a good driving record.

• Typing certificate issued within the last year verifying minimum typing speed of thirty-five (35) net words per minute with a maximum of nine (9) errors. Typing certificate must be submitted with application to be considered.  Online typing certificate permitted with application; formal test will be administered to final candidate.

• Completion within the last year of the POST Entry Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery with a preferred minimum
  score of 48 or above;
  or CritiCall Dispatch passing test results within a year of application date.

• Certificate must be submitted with application to be considered.

What happens next?

• We will review your application and all supplemental materials to select the best qualified applicants to continue in the process. Screening will include a review of minimum qualifications, application appraisal rating of education, training and experience and relevance of background qualifications related to the target job as well as supplemental questions if applicable.

• Applicants selected to move forward in the process may be asked to participate in any combination of the following (at any phase of the selection process): a written examination, job related exercise, physical test or job simulation, phone interview, in-person or video interview(s), and/or web-based testing.

• The final phase of the selection process is the probationary period, which in most cases is one year, depending on your classification.
