Under general supervision, the Juvenile Hall Counselor is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of young people detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Working Conditions:
Individuals must be willing and able to respond to emergency conditions, which may involve physically subduing and restraining hostile youth and young adults who often have the size and strength of adults.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to perform the duties of the position. May involve considerable amounts of standing, walking and/or when necessary, running. This includes the ability to lift and/or move with assistance objects weighing up to 50 lbs or more. The Counselor may be assigned to work day, swing and graveyard shifts, holidays and weekends.

The Position: 

The City of Santa Clara Water and Sewer department has an opportunity for a position of As Needed Engineering Aide. Job responsibilities include, prepares scaled and dimensioned plans based on sketches prepared by engineering personnel, maintains records of as-builts and updates existing Utility maps and records utilizing ESRI-based GIS applications, Maintains master map files, including such records of block maps, sewer and water infrastructure maps, and other maps, Performs computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD, involved in checking drawings of utility facilities, perform other duties as assigned.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and/or Database Management Systems.

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible for the performance of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws, to carry out special assignments as necessary, and other related duties as assigned. A wide variety of assignments are available which include Patrol, Traffic, Narcotics, Detectives, Off-Road and Surface Street Motorcycle Patrol, Bike Patrol, Special Weapons Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Canine, Background Investigations, School Liaison, Gang Suppression, Special Enforcement Section and Intelligence.

Requirements:

Candidates must have completed a California P.O.S.T. Certified Police Academy. Must be 21 years of age as of the appointment date, high school graduate or G.E.D., (as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education), and U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship.

Out-of-State Candidates:

The California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will conduct an evaluation of all out-of-state training. POST is the sole authority on applicable training and determines whether the candidate must attend an abbreviated academy, or a regular police academy. If an academy is required, the candidate will be hired as a Police Officer Trainee. Upon completion of the academy, promotion will be made to Police Officer.

About the Position

This position is responsible for inspecting public works construction and capital improvement projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, standards, laws and regulations and to perform a variety of tasks relative to this area of responsibility. Projects include those involving federal and municipal funds and both public and private improvements. This is a skilled journey-level class and requires independence of action, judgment, and discretion in interpreting plans and specifications and enforcing local, state, and federal construction regulations.

 

This position is distinguished from that of the Civil Engineering Technician position in that the preponderance of the Public Works Inspector duties are related to field work rather than office work. The Public Works Inspector has a greater depth of knowledge and ability regarding construction materials and methods and greater experience in managing complex construction projects.

 

Reports to the Senior Engineer. This position is not responsible for any direct supervision but does indirectly supervise contractors.

 

Essential Duties

• Performs a variety of technical civil engineering functions including inspecting, plan checking and issuing permits.
• Provides field inspection of public and private civil improvement projects, including, but not limited to, grading, underground utilities, encroachments, curbs, gutters, sidewalk, paving, facilities, structures, and park construction; ensures conformance to approved plans and specifications; requires correction of defective work; recommends approval of acceptable work.
• Reviews plans and specifications of assigned projects with the Senior Engineer and/or the Public Works Director/City Engineer; attend/conduct pre-construction conferences.
• Issues permits. Issues notices to correct violations of public works codes and standards, including storm water, right-of-way encroachments, grading and sewer codes and standards, and recommends action to the Senior Engineer if corrections are not made.
• Performs contract administration duties including preparation of daily construction reports, weekly statement of working days, change orders, progress payments, general correspondence, and checking payroll records, materials submittals and certificates of compliance.
• Prepares daily activity records and reports manually and in computer-based format. Take photography and prepare site sketches.
• Estimates the cost of materials and labor necessary to complete new or unanticipated work. Initiates change orders.
• Writes letters to contractors, homeowners, consultants, agencies, and other city departments.
• Collects and review contractor payroll records to insure compliance with state and federal wage rate laws.
• Reviews submittals, takes samples of materials for examination or testing by laboratories; records amounts of materials used and work performed, and interpret results of soils, materials, and operational tests: including asphalt compliance, concrete strength and soil compaction test reports.
• Represents the Department of Public Works with developers, architects, engineers, contractors and the general public; provide information and assistance; interprets and explains City Ordinances, standards, plans, specification, procedures and policies.
• Provides information regarding existing public works infrastructure to satisfy inquiries from staff developers and citizens.
• Coordinates work with maintenance staff, other City departments and public utilities. Indicates location of various items on plans. Helps locate utilities ahead of work sites. Schedules service interruptions with least interference and least inconvenience to properties.
• Investigates property owner complaints; confer with property owners regarding project schedule, hazards and inconvenience.
• Inspects adjacent properties for damage from construction activity.
• Assists the Senior Engineer in administration of federal-aid construction contracts in accordance with the State of California Local Assistance Procedures Manual.

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical Technician/Senior Instrumentation & Electrical Technician to join our team!

We are seeking a highly motivated, safety-forward, resourceful, and technically skilled team player to perform a variety of duties in the Water Division at the City’s Municipal Service Center (MSC), primarily working with water pump stations and reservoirs. The position may also involve providing support to other Public Works divisions, including Landscaping, Street Maintenance, and the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (HCTP). 

 

Primary Responsibilities

• Identify and perform a variety of maintenance repairs and installations and calibrations on water distribution system instrumentation, electrical equipment and facilities, including but not limited to:
  • Process measurement devices including level, flow, pH, temperature, and process chemical level/residual
  • High and low voltage electrical equipment including Motor Control Centers (MCCs), AC and DC motors, transformers, power panels, wireways, fixtures, receptacles and disconnect switches
  • Various motor control equipment and devices including variable frequency drives, motor controllers, adjustable speed drives, relays, timers and indicating devices
• Maintain and upload/download from programmable logic controllers (PLC) and field human-machine interface (HMI) projects
• Perform prescribed preventative maintenance procedures on all relevant equipment
• Actively participate in maintaining a clean and safe work environment
• Order necessary parts to maintain equipment or construct replacement parts
• Respond to night and weekend emergency calls as needed

In addition, the Senior Instrumentation and Electrical Technician shall:

 

• Train assigned employees in their areas of work
• Verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications
• Supervise the use, care, and operation of process control instrumentation, electrical, and related equipment; research, evaluate, and make changes to improve the preventative maintenance program and equipment performance
• Identify safety issues and correct them and ensure adherence to a high level of safe work practices and procedures
• Oversee and participate in planning the installation of new or improved electrical and electronic systems, equipment, and machinery; lead and train City staff on operation of new or modified systems

•  Oversee development and oversight of a Preventative Maintenance Program including training and adherence to best standards of electrical safety principles and practices
• Direct contract employees performing electronic or electrical installations and repairs

About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a collaborative, three-person Grants Program team within Administrative Services. The Novato Sanitary District is seeking an organized, collaborative, and fast-learning Administrative Services Technician to support a wide range of essential administrative services functions, such as risk management, human resources, purchasing, record management, and general administration. Under general direction of the Administrative Services Manager, the Administrative Services Technician is a confidential position that provides paraprofessional, technical, administrative, and secretarial support to District programs and services. The Administrative Services Technician learns and then applies procedural, program, and compliance knowledge; assumes ongoing, technical responsibilities specific to assigned areas, such as risk management and record management; works with departments and outside agencies to coordinate assigned programs, projects, and services; and performs research and routine analysis on a wide variety of special projects.

The Administrative Services Technician also supports the general administration of the District office, such as proofreading, filing, processing mail, answering the telephone, providing front counter customer service, maintaining calendars, organizing office storage, and setting up and breaking down the Board Room for meetings and events.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate has experience in either of two backgrounds. The first is a background in providing journey-level clerical or technical support in the public or private sector that included interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports. Alternatively, the second is a background in providing advanced office support that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

In addition to one of these two backgrounds, the ideal candidate is curious and enjoys learning about new systems and functions at a technical level. They appreciate when careful precision and accuracy is necessary to complete a task. The idea candidate is open to helping with functions and tasks that they are not familiar with and will seek out resources and guidance to better understand the function and complete the task accurately. They are also proactive in identifying needs, developing and recommending solutions, and ensuring the solution is fully implemented.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience: A combination of training and experience that demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the essential duties of the position. A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of increasingly responsible journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.
• Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited educational institution and two (2) years of journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

Other Requirements:

• Valid California motor vehicle driver's license and good driving record
• Eligibility to work in the United States under appropriate federal regulations.
• Completion of a medical examination administered by a licensed medical doctor, selected and paid by the District, to determine physical fitness for the job.
• All Novato Sanitary District employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the District requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency
