Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible for the performance of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws, to carry out special assignments as necessary, and other related duties as assigned. A wide variety of assignments are available which include Patrol, Traffic, Narcotics, Detectives, Off-Road and Surface Street Motorcycle Patrol, Bike Patrol, Special Weapons Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Canine, Background Investigations, School Liaison, Gang Suppression, Special Enforcement Section and Intelligence.

This position participates in a 4/10 work schedule. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:

Candidates must have completed a California P.O.S.T. Certified Police Academy. Must be 21 years of age as of the appointment date, high school graduate or G.E.D., (as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education), and U.S. citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship.

Out-of-State Candidates:

The California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will conduct an evaluation of all out-of-state training. POST is the sole authority on applicable training and determines whether the candidate must attend an abbreviated academy, or a regular police academy. If an academy is required, the candidate will be hired as a Police Officer Trainee. Upon completion of the academy, promotion will be made to Police Officer.

Selection Process:

All qualified applicants will be invited to appear before an Oral Appraisal Board. Applicants passing the Oral Board examination will be placed on the eligibility list based on their Oral Appraisal Board rankings. Prospective employees will be required to pass a physical agility examination and undergo a thorough background investigation including a medical, psychological, polygraph and drug/alcohol screening.

About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a collaborative, three-person Grants Program team within Administrative Services. The Grants Program identifies and secures external funding and manages a small Grantmaking Program. In this role, the Senior Technician supports the entirety of the grant lifecycle, including identifying funding opportunities, application review and editing, and, once awarded, developing funding agreements, monitoring compliance with the grant agreements, and working with Midpen departments to submit reimbursement requests, reports, and project deliverables. Additionally, the Senior Technician supports the administration of a small grantmaking program. Other duties include administrative and record-keeping functions, including editing board reports, meeting scheduling, contract management, invoice processing, and data management.  This is an advanced journey-level classification, where you will be asked to perform detailed and technical work accurately and in a timely manner.

The Novato Sanitary District is seeking an organized, collaborative, and fast-learning Administrative Services Technician to support a wide range of essential administrative services functions, such as risk management, human resources, purchasing, record management, and general administration. Under general direction of the Administrative Services Manager, the Administrative Services Technician is a confidential position that provides paraprofessional, technical, administrative, and secretarial support to District programs and services. The Administrative Services Technician learns and then applies procedural, program, and compliance knowledge; assumes ongoing, technical responsibilities specific to assigned areas, such as risk management and record management; works with departments and outside agencies to coordinate assigned programs, projects, and services; and performs research and routine analysis on a wide variety of special projects.

The Administrative Services Technician also supports the general administration of the District office, such as proofreading, filing, processing mail, answering the telephone, providing front counter customer service, maintaining calendars, organizing office storage, and setting up and breaking down the Board Room for meetings and events.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate has experience in either of two backgrounds. The first is a background in providing journey-level clerical or technical support in the public or private sector that included interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports. Alternatively, the second is a background in providing advanced office support that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

In addition to one of these two backgrounds, the ideal candidate is curious and enjoys learning about new systems and functions at a technical level. They appreciate when careful precision and accuracy is necessary to complete a task. The idea candidate is open to helping with functions and tasks that they are not familiar with and will seek out resources and guidance to better understand the function and complete the task accurately. They are also proactive in identifying needs, developing and recommending solutions, and ensuring the solution is fully implemented.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience: A combination of training and experience that demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the essential duties of the position. A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of increasingly responsible journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

POLICE SERGEANT- Open Until Filled

The Town of Atherton is approximately five square miles. The City is located in the San Francisco Peninsula in Southern San Mateo County. Atherton is a small, rural, and residential community, with no industrial land-use base. Native trees cover the five miles of town. Atherton’s current population is 7,133 according to the California Census in 2020.       

The Town of Atherton invites you to apply for the position of Police Sergeant. This is an internal and external opportunity. Under the general supervision of the Police Commander, the Police Sergeant plans, schedules, deploys, trains, supervises, and reviews the work of Police Officers and civilian staff.  The Sergeant performs a wide range of patrol and related duties in the prevention of crime, maintenance of public order, protection of life and property, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances.  As part of the Management Team, the Sergeant assists in the preparation of collision investigations and criminal cases, provides courtroom testimony, serves in specialized organizational roles, and assists with various administrative functions. 

A letter of interest and current resume is required. All submissions will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training, and other job-related qualifications.. An extensive background includes a polygraph examination and/or voice stress analysis, completion of the POST Personal History Statement along with medical and psychological exams if selected.

As a sergeant, you'll be responsible for leading and managing a team of officers. This is the entry level paid classification in the field of firefighting. Administrative Clerk II:  This is the journey level class in the series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance.

Provides excellent customer service; answer telephone and direct callers; receive visitors at a public counter and identify a variety of needs; provide information on department policies and procedures as appropriate; schedules appointments. Performs a wide variety of routine clerical work including filing, billing, checking and recording information on records, maintaining logs for assigned functions. The position reports to the Parks and Public Works  Director and will be responsible for:
 

• Leading the development of the Department’s operating budgets and monitoring personnel and non-personnel expenditures.
• Leading the development of the Town’s Capital Budget Document.
• Working closely with the Town’s Finance Department to monitor Department spending and implement fiscal policies.
• Providing guidance to the Director on financial and budget matters.
• Supporting staff on compliance with state and federal grant programs.
• Providing support and guidance to Department staff on fiscal issues and management.

The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. SJFD is a high-volume, all-hazards fire department providing fire suppression and rescue services that protects approximately 200 square miles, Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services as well as specialized operations including Urban Search and Rescue, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, and a Hazardous Material Unit with a Decontamination Unit. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. Work is rigidly structured, highly supervised, and incumbents are continuously evaluated and receive feedback regularly. Firefighter Recruits must graduate from the Academy and be appointed to the class of Firefighter in order to retain employment in the job series.

In addition to the salary, employees shall also receive an approximate one percent (1%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

• Competitive Salary
  • Firefighter Recruit: $45.05 hourly, $3,604.00 bi-weekly*

Upon successful completion of the Firefighter-Recruit Academy:

Upon successful completion of the academy, eligible employees may also receive the following additional premium pays:

• Paramedic Pay: 14% of top step Firefighter upon completion of Santa Clara County Paramedic Accreditation process (currently $733.69 bi-weekly)
• Oral Bilingual Pay: 2.5% of top step Firefighter (currently $131.02 bi-weekly)

Education & Training Pay (AA/AS - BS, Fire Science, Fire Technology, Fire Protection Technology): 1.5% of top step Firefighter (currently $78.61 bi-weekly)

Employees hired on or after January 1, 2017, must reside within 120* minutes travel time from the nearest City of San Jose fire station (non-traffic period as calculated by Google Maps or map program mutually agreed to by the parties).

*effective July 1, 2024, the travel time will change to residing within 180 minutes of the nearest

Firefighter Recruit applicants: Must be current on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List (SEL) by the final filing date of 08/02/2024.
