The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

Are you interested in gaining valuable work experience in the field of law enforcement? The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the 2025 Sheriff's Summer Internship Program!

The Summer Internship Program will run for 12 weeks from June 9 to August 29, 2025. The Sheriff’s Office is searching for up to 20 Summer Interns to perform a variety of administrative functions throughout the following divisions of our office:

• Corrections
• Court Security & Transportation
• Criminal Records
• Emergency Services
• Fiscal / Accounting
• Forensic Lab
• Patrol
• Property & Evidence
• Sheriff’s Activities League
• Technical Services
• Training

Interns will work a maximum of 20 hours per week. Work schedules will fall during the standard work week -- Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. There may be room for scheduling flexibility to be further discussed during the placement portion of the hiring process.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Candidates selected to fill these internship positions must submit to a thorough pre-employment background investigation prior to receiving a final offer of employment.

• Support assigned unit/division in its operations

• Proofread reports and flyers

Qualifications:

To apply, the following criteria must be met:

• A high school diploma or equivalent educational certification is required.
• Applicants should possess the legal right to work in the United States.
• Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation is required for employment.
• Interns assigned to roles in the Forensic Lab, Correctional Facilities, or working with youth must participate in a medical clearance process prior to hire.

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

The City of Marysville is excited to announce that we are looking for Intern Fire Fighters.  Currently, we have 3 positions looking to be filled.

This is a NEW program within the Marysville Fire Department.  The Marysville Fire Department is hiring continuously for twelve (12) Firefighter Reserves.  These positions will be funded for four (4) years through the SAFER Grant.  

For each 24 hour shift worked, you will receive $60 for food and mileage, that will be paid monthly in accordance with the City of Marysville's established pay schedule.
