GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of routine to moderately complex clerical and customer service-related duties requiring program knowledge, technical evaluation of information, and the use of clerical skills to support the operations of the assigned department.  This current part-time vacancy will reside in the City Manager’s Office focusing on Human Resources tasks.

• Provides backup support for other administrative support staff as necessary.
• Assists with the following Human Resources duties: Workers’ Compensation claims; Onboarding new employees; Benefits enrollment; Recruitments; Preemployment; Employment verifications; Policy review and interpretation; Financial audits; EDD claims.
• Assists with reviewing, evaluating, and updating forms, policies, procedures, and manuals.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of unskilled/semi-skilled maintenance or custodial duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Clean and inspect facilities for vandalism or potential hazards.
• Sanitize surfaces, repair minor plumbing problems, diagnose basic sewer issues, replace components on fixtures.
• Maintain area(s) as assigned including parks and public buildings, performing basic repairs, inspections and landscaping.
• Load and unload supplies and materials.
• Assist with various areas of public works such as minor asphalt repairs, brush removal, facility repairs, stewardship of protected species, etc.

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting certified Lifeguards for our beautiful year-round outdoor aquatic facility.  Lifeguards patrol and watch the activities in and around the community swimming pool, enforce regulations to prevent accidents, and rescue swimmers in distress.  A full job description is available at www.brisbaneca.org.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Graduation from high school or GED equivalent is desirable.  This provision may be waived for applicants 15 to 18 years of age with ability to obtain a valid work permit.

Experience:  Previous experience as a lifeguard, having worked with youth and WSI certification is desirable.

Special Requirements:  Current Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificates are required. Current certifications for this program are not required prior to applying for position.

SALARY AND HOURS:

$17.06 – $17.91– $18.80 – $19.75 - $20.72 per hour.  This is a part-time position, paid sick leave benefit available. Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five step scale.  Hours will range from 15-25 hours per week.  Candidates that make the eligibility list may be selected for shifts as needed throughout the year.  Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the entire year.

Under the direction of the Recreation and Community Engagement Department, the position is responsible for Reception/Cashier duties at City Hall and assisting with City events.

This entry-level classification requires limited time on the job before an incumbent can function at the full journey level. When assigned to the front desk at City Hall, one will perform various clerical tasks, including receptionist duties, basic cashier, customer service, program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing, and support of special events or projects.

When assigned the task of Recreation Assistant, will perform a variety of functions to support the Recreation Department's programs, including working directly with youth participants, assisting with planning activities, and providing customer service. The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

• Physical Fitness:  Work towards maintaining a level of physical fitness necessary for performing firefighting duties.  Engage in physical training and conditioning activities as directed by the department.

• Recent High School Grad preferred.
• Previous participation in a recognized firefighting explorer program, academy, fire science program, or related program or activity.
