THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works and Utilities is comprised of six divisions that work collaboratively to develop, build, operate, and maintain Hayward's infrastructure. The Department is responsible for providing engineering and transportation support to City operating departments and divisions and for implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Program, all while providing excellent customer service to the community.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying, the Subdivision Map Act, Local Subdivision Ordinance and The Land Surveyors Act; 
• a California L.S.I.T. or Land Surveyor's License. 
• Excellent writing skills, a highly articulate oral communicative style, and the ability to clearly explain complex issues to a wide variety of constituents; 
• Strong customer service skills;
• Strong work ethic and be self-motivated;

• Land surveying principles and practices as applied to preliminary location, property, construction, precise traverse, and precise leveling and topographic surveys.
• Plane geometry and its application to land surveying.
• Proper use and methods of adjustment of common surveying instruments and equipment.
• Operating surveying instruments and in making accurate field observations.

• Effectively supervise the work of members of a land survey party.
• Learn and effectively apply City policies, procedures and practices related to land survey work and to interpret legal descriptions.
• Prepare clears, and completes records.
• Read and interpret maps and complex property descriptions.
• Make a check calculations and resolve discrepancies in surveying data.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Train and supervise subordinate personnel.

You have:  
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:   Three years of increasingly responsible survey experience related to public works design and construction at least one year of which included responsible survey instrument work.
 
Education:  Equivalent to an Associate of Arts Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and completed course work in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and drafting.  

License:   Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License. Possession of a California L.S.I.T. or Land Surveyor's License.

THE POSITION

The current opening is for a full-time position and is under the direction of the Police Records Supervisor. The Police Records Clerk will provide a wide variety of clerical, typing, and computer data entry tasks related to Police records; maintaining accurate Police statistics, records, and files; conducting business and transactions with the public, in person and by telephone; is available for occasional night and/or weekend duty as required, and performing other related work as required.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Responsible for all Police statistical record keeping.
• Perform a variety of data entry, typing, and clerical work related to all phases of the Police operation,  such as preparing forms, ordering department supplies, and making appointments.
• Prepare correspondence and compile information for reports.
• Direct requests to proper agencies and departments.
• Enter, update, and maintain data while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of all information.
• Coordinate service of subpoenas.
• Compile data for Public Records Act requests.
• Approve and prepare reports for the District Attorney.
• Assist the public both in person and by telephone, requiring knowledge of rules and procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The City of Patterson’s Public Works Department is seeking to fill (1) full-time Electrical & Instrumentation Technician I or II position within the Public Works department and to establish an eligibility list.  Duties include but are not limited to: Under supervision, performs skilled electrical and mechanical work related to the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment associated with the Wastewater Treatment Facility, Water Distribution System, Sewer/Storm Collections pumping stations, Telemetry/SCADA system, Traffic Signal and Street Light System, and related facilities.  Performs related work as assigned.

THE POSITION

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is a utility enterprise that provides planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the City's water distribution system, sewer collection system, and recycled water system. The Position: 

The Utility Crew Supervisor is a lead supervisory classification in the Water and Sewer Utility Department. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for performing the most difficult and responsible technical duties and supervising the work of an assigned crew in a specialty area such as water construction and maintenance, water meter testing and maintenance, and sewer system maintenance. The Utility Crew Supervisor is distinguished from the Assistant Water Superintendent in that the latter is responsible for overseeing a Program in the Water Construction, Maintenance, and Operations Division.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, maintenance, or operations with a public or private water or sewer utility organization.

License/Certifications: 

• A valid Water Distribution System Operator Certificate (Grade D-2 or above) issued by the California Department of Health Services is required at time of application and for the duration of employment.
• A valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

The following are required when assigned to the water construction and maintenance or sewer system maintenance specialties:

• A valid California Class A or B Commercial driver's license is required at time of application and for the duration of employment.
• A valid Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 2 or above) issued by the California Water Environment Association is required within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.

The following is required when assigned to the water meter testing and maintenance specialty:

• A valid Backflow Prevention Tester Certificate issued by the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association or the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research is required within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Depending on position assignment, qualifying experience may be required in one of the following specialty areas: water construction and maintenance, water meter testing and maintenance, or sewer system maintenance. 

Other Requirements:  

• May be required to work unusual hours in emergency situations and to be available on an "on-call" basis as assigned.
• May be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as mandated by federal regulations.
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.
