Job Description

Under the supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor I, the Pile Worker performs a variety of manual work in the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures by removing and replacing decayed and/or damaged caps, stringers, and decking; pulling, driving, framing, and bolting piles; burning old bolts; and repairing docks. Inspects piling underwater, wraps damaged piles and identifies severely damaged piles for replacement. Performs underwater burning, welding, and rigging for underwater projects.

For positions that require diving ability, incumbent must hold a current commercial diving certification. Diving ability includes performing underwater diving work including the ability to inspect underwater piles, wrap damaged piles, cut piles, prep and grout concrete piles, install anodes, designate severely damaged piles for replacement, perform underwater burning, welding, and rigging and familiarity with CAL OSHA regulations related to diving.

The essential duties of the 9330 Pile Worker include but are not limited to:

• Placing, driving, and capping piles.
• Placing stringers, sawing, and laying decking.
• Tearing out decayed and damaged decking, stringers, caps, and pilings.
•  Boring holes and framing timbers.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver and/or truck crane.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver by setting up, tearing down, and resetting rigging.
• Making minor repairs to piledriver machinery and equipment.
• Fabricating rigging, both wire rope or synthetic line such as block and tackles, slings, chokers, pennants, and related gear.
• Building, maintaining and using floats, pontoons, or work boats in the maintenance and repair of piers and docks.
• Building and maintaining floats, pontoons, workboats, and rafts.
• Loading and/or unloading piles, timbers, or debris to or from trucks or barges.
• Assisting the dive crew by sending down equipment and tools.
• Using international code of hand signals to signal instructions to the Piledriver Engine Operator.
• Using and maintaining pneumatic and portable gas tools.
• Operating forklifts, vehicles, and boats
• Using and maintaining a wide variety of pneumatic and portable gas tools such as drills, sanders, wrenches, saws, forklifts, torches, boring machines, and other related tools.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Some positions require diving ability - for positions that perform underwater diving, candidates are required to pass a medical qualification examination to dive and for the use of a respirator. Sustained physical effort, frequently underwater and under adverse weather conditions such as in rain, rough water, cold temperatures (water and air) and confined spaces; moving large heavy timbers; operating a skiff; and driving Port vehicles; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and support dive gear and apparatus from 100 to 150 pounds.  

Qualifications

Experience

Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience as a pile worker.

For diving positions only: One (1) year of commercial construction diver experience in addition to the experience described above for a total of five (5) years of experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

For diving positions only: Possession of a current certification as a commercial diver by an Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE) accredited dive school.

Desirable Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with wood, steel and concrete pier construction and marine pile driving operations.
• Experience working on a barge crane conducting pile driving operations.
• Experience maintaining floating assets and marina floats.
• Experience operating boats
• Ability to identify and correct safety hazards.
• Good oral communication skills.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card

This position requires that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the Port’s Maritime Transportation System (MTS).  An application for a TWIC card may be submitted after employment has commenced.  Employment in this position requires that the incumbent undergo a criminal history check, immigration check and terrorist threat assessment, including FBI fingerprints, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance.  

The incumbent must submit an application for, successfully acquire and maintain a TWIC card. Per Civil Service Rule 110.9.1, every applicant must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the announcement for this examination. Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible for the performance of law enforcement duties to protect life and property in accordance with applicable laws, to carry out special assignments as necessary, and other related duties as assigned. A wide variety of assignments are available which include Patrol, Traffic, Narcotics, Detectives, Off-Road and Surface Street Motorcycle Patrol, Bike Patrol, Special Weapons Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, Canine, Background Investigations, School Liaison, Gang Suppression, Special Enforcement Section and Intelligence.

Requirements:

Candidates must have completed a California P.O.S.T. Certified Police Academy. Out-of-State Candidates:

The California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will conduct an evaluation of all out-of-state training. THE POSITION

To perform semi-skilled and skilled work involving the City's Pollution Prevention Program, Industrial Pretreatment Program, Stormwater Program, and related programs.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have strong communication and customer service skills, the ability to prioritize work and maintain deadlines. Assist in developing and implementing the Pollution Prevention Program.  Assist in the day-to-day enforcement of the Industrial Pretreatment Program, Pollution Prevention Program and the Stormwater Program.  Inspect Pollution Prevention Program facilities to ensure compliance with City Pretreatment regulations.    Assist with inspection of Industrial Pretreatment Program facilities to ensure compliance with Pretreatment regulations. Inspect construction sites to ensure compliance with NPDES Phase II requirements. Issue discharge permits for new and existing businesses regulated under the Pollution Prevention Program. Regular and consistent attendance.  Work weekends and holidays as assigned. 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests and analyses.  Serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency call-outs.  Keep detailed records of Pollution Prevention Program activities. Assist with public education and outreach activities to permitted businesses and residential customers. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Environmental Compliance Inspector I:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field is highly desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in working with mechanical equipment and basic water or wastewater chemical and bacteriological processes is desirable.

License or Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's license.  A Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by California Water Environment Association is required within 12 months.

 

Environmental Compliance Inspector II:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training or coursework in the water pollution control field.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in the operation of a Pretreatment program. One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and/or related facilities or programs is desirable.

Licenses and Certificates: Grade I Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association required upon hire. Must obtain a Grade II Environmental Inspection Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association within 12 months of appointment.

Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services department (PRNS) is recruiting to fill a Community Services Supervisor position in the BeautifySJ Program. The BeautifySJ Program is a blight reduction, community beautification and encampment management program within the Community Services Division. The position will report to a Program Manager.

The BeautifySJ Unit is currently looking for a manager to join our dynamic team. This manager will lead a team of full-time staff to coordinate blight reduction efforts, which may include encampment management programs. The position will be housed at the Kirk Community Center (home of BeautifySJ), and will have a hybrid work schedule which includes working in at the site and when necessary, field visits. The position works 40 hours per week with a typical schedule of Monday?Friday, 7:30am?4:30pm but will vary depending on activities and events and will require evening or weekend work.

BeautifySJ Initiative is a dynamic initiative that works to reduce blight and beautify the City via an inter-departmental strategy that coordinates and leverages resources to address blight issues. The Community Services Supervisor would work collaboratively with staff in PRNS, Housing, the Environmental Services Department, Code Enforcement, the Department of Transportation and interjurisdictional partners.

Job duties for the position include but are not limited to:

• Supervising a staff of professional community coordinators, community activity workers and maintenance workers that coordinate and lead blight reduction and beautification programs and projects in the field.

THE POSITION

To collect and examine water, wastewater, stormwater and related materials.  Performs a variety of standardized and complex tests and analysis of such samples. Maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment, prepares glassware, mixes reagents and media. Prepares reports, performs special studies, analyzes results and works with a variety of outside labs.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Water Pollution Control Facility, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid certificates.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will have previous experience working in a laboratory or related position.  Candidate will be familiar with the principles and practices necessary in the operation of a Water Pollution Control Facility and have completed previous coursework in chemistry, microbiology, mathematics and other relevant fields.  The Ideal Candidate will be organized, flexible, hardworking, and have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Candidate will be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills, have the ability to maintain accurate records, be a cooperative team player, and bring a positive, professional attitude to workplace.

 

Laboratory Technician I:

This is the entry-level classification in the flexibly staffed Laboratory (Lab) Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the Lab Technician II level by providing a narrower range of duties, usually of a less complex nature in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents learn and perform a variety of clearly defined duties involved with cleaning and maintaining laboratory material and equipment and performing routine testing and analysis in the laboratory. Laboratory Technician II provides lead supervision and training as needed to the Laboratory Technician I.

Laboratory Technician II:

This is the journey level classification of Lab Technician series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from the entry level by performing complex testing and analysis in the treatment plant laboratory.  Incumbents are thoroughly familiar of defined duties involved with calibrating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment.  Provides lead direction to Lab Technician I in addition to performing NPDES required analyses in the laboratory and the more complex laboratory analysis. The Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager provides direct supervision. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Laboratory Technician I - Collects and prepares water, wastewater, receiving waters and related samples for analysis.  Conducts standard physical, chemical and biological analysis of such samples.  Makes mathematical calculations and statistical analysis for test results.  Prepares and maintains a variety of logs, records and reports related to the work performed.  Performs complex sampling techniques.  Prepares lab supply and equipment order lists.  Regular and consistent attendance.

Laboratory Technician II – All of the essential functions listed above and:  Prepares standardized reagents and media used in laboratory analysis.  Samples, schedules and ships samples to outside laboratories.  Performs analysis on quality assurance samples for compliance with State Health Department to maintain laboratory certification.  Participates in the laboratory quality assurance program by reviewing and verifying records and reports for the NPDES permit requirements.  Schedules laboratory and maintenance work, ordering of materials, and maintains records as directed by the Laboratory and Environmental Compliance Manager.  Ensure proper maintenance and repair work on all laboratory equipment.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Cleans and prepares laboratory equipment and glassware.  Maintains laboratory in a clean and orderly condition.  Observes safe work methods, practices and precautions; uses appropriate safety devices and equipment in accordance to laboratory standard operating procedures.  Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Laboratory Technician I:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by related college level coursework.
Experience:  One (1) year experience in a laboratory or related position is desirable.
License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a current California Driver’s License.  Possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade I Laboratory Analyst Certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment.  Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate is desirable.

 

Laboratory Technician II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent is required.  Completion of one (1) year of related college level coursework is preferred.
Experience:  Two (2) years of general laboratory experience is preferred.
License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of all certifications required for the Laboratory Technician I and possession of a current California Water Environment Association Grade II Laboratory Analyst certificate within eighteen (18) months.  Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate is desirable.

Temporary Maintenance Worker – Parks & Roadsides 

Salary: $20.00/hour

 

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

 

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position. 
• Flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week, which may include weekend work; not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year. The schedule for this position would be Friday through Monday. 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

General supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. May exercise supervision of Work Alternative Program participants as assigned. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES 

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:  

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play. 
• Assist Maintenance Services personnel on assigned projects.  

• Perform duties within OSHA standards. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge of: 

• Construction and maintenance materials, methods, and terminology. 

• The use, purposes and maintenance of hand tools; and the operation of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment in performing duties. 

Ability to: 

• Understand and follow oral and written directions. 
• Ability to work both in a supervised and unsupervised environment. 
• Perform manual labor for extended periods of time; and operate under tight deadlines. 
• Lift equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. 
• Work flexible hours. 

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security.

The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.
