About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a collaborative, three-person Grants Program team within Administrative Services. Midpen aims to recruit and retain employees who embody professionalism, accountability, and respect, who value working in a purpose-driven agency that aspires to contribute to an inclusive, diverse and equitable community.

The Grants Program identifies and secures external funding and manages a small Grantmaking Program. In this role, the Senior Technician supports the entirety of the grant lifecycle, including identifying funding opportunities, application review and editing, and, once awarded, developing funding agreements, monitoring compliance with the grant agreements, and working with Midpen departments to submit reimbursement requests, reports, and project deliverables. Additionally, the Senior Technician supports the administration of a small grantmaking program. Other duties include administrative and record-keeping functions, including editing board reports, meeting scheduling, contract management, invoice processing, and data management.  This is an advanced journey-level classification, where you will be asked to perform detailed and technical work accurately and in a timely manner.

A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:  equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by college-level coursework in accounting or finance and five (5) years of experience in the maintenance of financial and accounting records, budgeting, grants support, procurement support, or financial support experience.  Prior experience in the public sector is highly desired.

THE POSITION

Under direction of the City Engineer or Assistant City Engineer, a Senior Civil Engineer supervises field and office work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure; manages land development processes; manages and performs engineering analysis; implements programs and administers projects; may supervise a major section in the Engineering Division; and performs other duties as assigned. The Senior Civil Engineer performs and supervises the most complex engineering assignments.

This Senior Civil Engineer position will manage capital projects and may also oversee some development projects.  Examples of projects include:

• Arroyo Trail T 13, 1.5 miles paved trail through Wente Vineyard and LARPD Sycamore Grove properties and includes a 100’ pedestrian bridge.
• Arroyo Las Positas Creek channel widening, flood walls and Airway Blvd Culvert Replacement adjacent to Las Positas Golf course and Livermore Municipal Airport.
• Bridge Preventive Maintenance Program for 19 city bridges
• Manage other city asset programs such as pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk, ADA ramps.

The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. SJFD is a high-volume, all-hazards fire department providing fire suppression and rescue services that protects approximately 200 square miles, Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services as well as specialized operations including Urban Search and Rescue, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, and a Hazardous Material Unit with a Decontamination Unit. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. The Public Works Department is recruiting to fill an Associate Engineering position in the City Facilities Architectural Services (CFAS) division, MEP Section. CFAS division MEP section is responsible for the project management and delivery of capital projects for buildings, parks, libraries, public safety facilities and various cultural facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess a high level of professionalism, excellent customer service skills, and a supreme work ethic. These positions require excellent judgment, initiative, perseverance, integrity, organizational skills, flexibility and written and verbal communications skills.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Prepares and/or reviews designs, improvement plans, estimates, specifications, and contract documents for capital improvement projects, private development projects or other engineering related projects that are prepared by subordinates and/or consultants engaged by the City or by private developers.
• Reviews and responds to Request for Information (RFIs) and submittals, negotiate change orders, and review pay applications.
• Manages projects, i.e., oversees, controls, and guides the project.
• Negotiates, prepares and manages consultant agreements and/or construction contracts.
• Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
• Supervises the collection and analysis of field data and prepares recommendations.
• Responsible for interfacing with the public, consultants, contractors, other City departments/sections, and other agencies, and is responsible for timely response to the stakeholders' requests and concerns on projects.
• Coordinates with construction inspectors and attends field meetings to resolve problems arising in the field during the construction of a public improvement project.
• Prepares clearly written and effective reports and Council Memos.
• Tracks and manages project costs using appropriate tools and resources.
• Responsible for permitting, managing, and designing capital projects.

Additional responsibilities specific to the CFAS MEP Section positions:

Associate Engineer (Mechanical - MEP section):

• Able to review and comment on the various mechanical and/or plumbing engineering designs provided by the City's consultants.
• Able to provide mechanical and/or plumbing engineering analysis, calculations, and designs conforming to the California Mechanical and/or Plumbing Code requirements and other local and state standards.
• Able to act as the project manager for various City projects that involve HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Able to provide project scoping and estimate construction costs for budget preparation for projects involving the upgrade/replacement of chillers, cooling towers, heat pumps, air-handling units, circulation pumps, ventilation equipment, plumbing equipment, piping/valves, etc.

Associate Engineer (Electrical - MEP section):

• Able to review and comment on the various electrical engineering designs provided by the City's consultants.
• Able to provide electrical engineering analysis, calculations, and designs conforming to the California Electrical Code requirements and other local and state standards.
• Able to act as the project manager for various City projects that involve electrical systems.
• Able to provide project scoping and estimate construction costs for budget preparation for projects involving building power, lighting, generators, UPS, fire alarm systems, microgrids, EV chargers, etc.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Weighmaster in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department! Working in the scale house at the solid waste transfer station, the Weighmaster is responsible for assessing incoming loads and providing direction to customers.

In this role, you will weigh vehicles entering and leaving the transfer station; estimate volumes of small loads and assess contents; collect established fees for dumping; provide information and direct customers; and use personal computers for data collection, computation, reconciliation, record keeping and reporting. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: 
Equivalent to completion of high school and either three (3) years of solid waste collection and disposal experience, or three (3) years of general office or accounting support work experience. Prior experience in refuse collection and/or experience in handling of hazardous materials is desirable.

Other requirements include:
Must be bondable and able to work early morning, evening, holiday and weekend shifts in a dusty, windy environment without restrictions. Within a six (6) month probationary period must successfully complete four (4) weeks of full-time equivalent on-the-job training to prepare the employee to assume the full range of Weighmaster duties, as certified by senior supervisory staff.

Successful completion of classes in Customer Service Dispute/Conflict Resolution is desirable.

The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda is accepting applications for the position of Courtroom Clerk I. Under general supervision, the Courtroom Clerk I records and prepares minutes of all types of court proceedings; resolves workflow and other technical and procedural problems within the courtroom; enters and retrieves information from automated and manual record keeping systems; and performs other related duties as assigned.

This is the trainee and entry-level class in the Courtroom Clerk series. The Courtroom Clerk I receives formalized and on-the-job training in the techniques and procedures of courtroom work. Progression to Courtroom Clerk II requires demonstration of proficiency in functioning independently in a variety of courtroom settings and in performing the full range of duties expected of a Courtroom Clerk.

A new eligibility list will be established to fill Courtroom Clerk I vacancies at various court locations. Courtroom Clerks may be assigned or reassigned to various locations within the County and work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., as determined by the business needs of the Court.

Example of Duties
NOTE: The following are duties performed by employees in this classification; however, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in this classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Accurately records official minutes of court proceedings in a timely manner; prepares minutes, commitments, orders, judgments, abstracts, rulings and notices; and records appearances of court appointed counsel, medical examiners and expert witnesses.
2. Oversees courtroom operations to ensure that appropriate personnel and parties are present and that the courtroom is ready for business; and calls the courtroom to order as needed.
3. Provides notice of court action, including issuing notices, rulings, orders and judgments as directed by judicial officer; prepares written correspondence and provides other assistance to judicial officer as needed; assists attorneys, court staff and the public in person and/or by phone and email, including setting hearings as needed; and processes documents.
7. Distributes and posts court calendars; gathers and prepares all files and data pertinent to cases on calendar for presentation to court at proper time; maintains appropriate tickler files; sorts, copies, files and retrieves documents from case files; and images documents as needed when court is not in session.
8. Maintains and coordinates calendars; consults with attorneys, judge and others regarding calendar continuances for pretrial motions, hearings, trials and other calendar matters.
9. Participates in training to ensure competency in providing services in all case types; and assists in cross-training co-workers as needed.
10. Provides coverage for courtroom clerks in departments and locations other than primary assigned as needed.
11. Assists in the Clerk's Offices as needed when court is not in session.
12. Operates electronic equipment such as communication, recording and duplicating devices when required.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Option I

The equivalent to two years of full-time experience as a Legal Processing Assistant with the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda.

or Option II

Possession of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree or equivalent to two years of college coursework with 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university.

And

The equivalent to two years of full-time increasingly responsible clerical experience in a banking, court, education, health care, law enforcement, legal, probation or social services environment.

Additional qualifying work experience as described above may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. One year (2080 hours) of additional qualifying work experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.

Ability to record minutes of court proceedings; write legibly and speak understandably; listen carefully to note pertinent information for court records; administer oaths and affirmations; understand, explain and apply specific statutes, codes, laws, regulations and procedures; type at a speed of 35 net words per minute from a clear copy; remain calm in a highly demanding environment; organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks; maintain flexibility; establish and maintain working relationships with the public, attorneys, staff and others; communicate in a tactful and professional manner; locate, identify and correct technical inaccuracies; enter data into a computer; work independently with minimal supervision; meet deadlines and complete tasks in a timely manner; calculated fees and fines; and maintain confidentiality.

This position includes a one-year probationary period. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of fingerprint check and the provision of appropriately identifying documents to certify eligibility to work in the United States.

Hiring Process
