Salary range: $49,030.80- $ 59,535.84 annually.

About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. In addition, responding to general questions from the public regarding non-domestic and/or domestic animals.

Please note that schedules can vary every week or be on an "on call" basis depending on knowledge, training, and experience with specific animal routines. The Position

The Housing Authority of the County of San Mateo seeks a collaborative, innovative problem solver, experienced with housing authority operations for the position of Executive Director to provide exceptional leadership at a high-performing agency.

With general direction from the Department of Housing Director and Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, the Executive Director organizes, coordinates, and directs through management staff all Housing Authority functions and activities; provides policy guidance and strategic direction regarding housing issues; fosters cooperative working relationships with the Board, HACSM staff, the public and other agencies; and performs related work as assigned. A Dance Instructor (Program Specialist) will plan, prepare and instruct recreation activities. Activities may include art, cooking, dance, pre-school program and other program areas. Programs are designed for children ages 4-17 (primarily 5-12) years of age.

Dance programs may include ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, folkloric, salsa, and rhythmic international styles.

• Different program areas will have different skills and knowledge requirements for the position; check with Recreation Supervisor. (For example: 6 ECE unites required for pre-school instructor)
• One school year teaching experience
• At least one year's experience working with children in an academic setting

Parks Planning and Design Manager Class Specification

Definition
Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and directs the activities of the Landscape Architecture Division; serves as a key staff member in the administration, development, and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the City’s Park Master Plan; oversees and directs the supervision and activities of citywide tree preservation and landscape development policies; and gives professional advice on landscape matters.

Class Characteristics 
This is a single position management classification reporting to the Community Services Director.  The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of department policy as it relates to division activities and follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; the incumbent is expected to identify policy issues and work with other staff to develop options and recommend solutions.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Landscape Architect by the latter’s responsibility to manage the staff and activities of one or more sections of the Landscape Architecture Division.

• Recommends design direction on high-profile urban design of public and private projects that impact landscape design and urban projects within the City.

• Recommends modifications to ordinances, policies and procedures and implements after approval.
• Performs professional landscape architectural work including preparing landscape plans, coordinating master plan development, and performing park planning and preparing related specifications, contracts, and cost estimates.
• Reviews and approves landscape proposals for private development, ensuring compliance with codes, policies, regulations and procedures.
• Prepares reports.
• Recommends approval or denial of various projects for submission to the Planning Commission and/or the City Council.
• Directs the inspection of and/or inspects public and private landscaping work for conformance with plans, specifications and ordinances.
• Administers and implements the Tree Preservation Ordinance, including recommending approval or denial of permits for tree removal.
• Administers the tree planting program, including maintenance of the street tree master plan, botanical designation, inspection of plantings, issuance of permits for planting, removal, and pruning.
• Serves as technical adviser to other City departments and officials on park, street tree and landscape matters.
• Reviews and analyzes federal, state and local landscape and water legislation and its implementation in the City of Fremont.
• Participates as a team member in the work of the department’s management team, understanding and then implementing assigned duties and responsibilities to support team goals and objectives.  
• Works cooperatively with other team members, receiving and sharing information, soliciting input, identifying operational and interpersonal issues, participating in the development of problem solving solutions.

What You’ll Do

Under the general direction of the City Clerk, the Deputy City Clerk uses independent judgement to plan, organize, direct, and perform a variety of complex administrative, technical, and supervisory duties in support of the City Clerk Department’s day-to-day operations, primarily legislative operations and contract and process management. The Deputy City Clerk serves as the second in command within the City Clerk’s Department and provides backup to the City Clerk.  The Deputy City Clerk will provide a high level of administrative and technical support to the City Clerk and other departments and perform all duties of the City Clerk in his/her absence. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assists the City Clerk in performing the day to day functions of the City Clerk's office; and in the absence of the City Clerk, act as City Clerk, performing such duties as serving as the Clerk of the City Council, maintaining meeting protocols, parliamentary procedures and proper conduct, writing agenda reports, taking minutes, certifying ordinances, resolutions, agreements and other official documents, administer oaths of office and supervise staff.

• Implements and manages the agenda production process including maintaining a deep knowledge of the agenda management software and process; training staff in the use of the software and process; and assists in deploying consistent agenda practices across the organization; coordinating with other departments on agenda content; enforcing work product standards and holding departments and higher classifications responsible for meeting standards and deadlines; and producing the agenda and agenda packet per state law and city requirements.
• Manages the publication of legal and public notices, for all Council bodies, in accordance with City, State and Federal law, and filing, indexing, certifying, processing for recordation, and safeguarding of all City Council proceedings.
• Maintains compliance with applicable Federal, State, local laws, relating to areas of responsibility, including but not limited to, California Elections Coe, the Brown Act, Political Reform Act, Conflict of Interest Code, and the Public Records Act.
• Oversees maintenance and development of City-wide records management initiatives.

• Attends City Council meetings with the City Clerk to assist with operating the audio / visual / agenda / voting system and take minutes as required.  Responsible for after Council action including producing and maintaining official City records and documents in good order such as resolutions, ordinances, contracts, deeds, correspondence, inter-agency notifications and minutes.
• Prioritizes work of staff; develops and trains staff; conducts performance evaluations; approves actions regarding hiring, promoting, and disciplining; and approves recommendations on all employee actions.

The salary range for this classification is $47,982.48 - $58,422.00 annually.

This position is covered under the Pay Floor Policy and hourly rates will be adjusted to a minimum of $26.66 hourly for benefitted positions. The Pay Floor rate consists of a base amount and an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Community Services Division: Safe + Clean + Engaged Neighborhoods

Empower and support residents, schools, and local organizations to make the City more livable, safe, and clean.

Project Hope is a neighborhood engagement and empowerment initiative focused on nine neighborhoods in San Jose. Organized into operational teams, Project Hope staff are assigned to specific neighborhoods, where they assist residents to address the conditions and circumstances that exist due to systemic racism such as crime/violence, blight, lack of trust, marginalization, and inadequate services. Project Hope supports residents to create new neighborhood associations or reinvigorate existing ones, develop the organizational and capacity building skills to better utilize and reach key City, and other public/private resources to address ongoing quality-of-life issues.

Community Activity Workers in Project Hope build strong relationships with residents, partners and community; assist neighborhood associations/board members with planning for meetings and events; inform residents of City services; assist neighborhood associations in building strong relationships with City of San José departments and other local government agencies, and; provide in-service trainings and workshops for community leaders to ensure self-sustainability of the neighborhood associations. ?Applicants should enjoy spending time in the community directly engaging with residents (e.g. canvassing, door-to-door outreach & surveying), planning and attending community events, bringing people together for positive results, and teaching residents how to engage with City and other public/private partners to address neighborhood/community issues.

Job duties for Community Activity Workers in Project Hope include, but are not limited to:

• Providing support to Community Coordinator in resident engagement efforts of three Project Hope sites
• Working some weekend and/or evening schedules per the program schedule
• Developing and presenting written materials and making public presentations to inform people about programs and encourage participation.
• Providing assistance to board members to increase the capacity of neighborhood associations achieving self-sustainability.
• Participating in planning and coordinating in-service training and development of program aids and materials.
• Performing public contact and liaison work in explaining and interpreting the Project Hope program.
• Preparing and monitoring budget and timesheets for the program and in support of neighborhood associations.
• Preparing monthly reports and correspondence and assisting community groups in grant writing.
• Coordinating with governmental agencies, local businesses, community-based organizations, County partners and City departments.
• Surveying targeted neighborhoods needs via methods including telephone, surveys, knock-and-talks or door-to-door canvassing.
• Providing information to residents on accessing City services or other service providers.
• Assisting in planning and implementing special activities or programs, such as community service or community empowerment projects, community meetings, community/graffiti clean-ups, tree-planting, tutoring, or sports activities for and with neighborhood associations.
• Rendering first aid in case of injury; watching for the safety of participants and spectators.
• Designing and producing flyers and announcements.
• May be required to provide bilingual translation, both orally and in writing.

Scenario: You are a Management Analyst in the City Manager’s Office tasked with researching and analyzing policies relevant to homeless services and mitigation practices.

In March 2024, California passed Proposition 1. Proposition 1 authorizes $6.4 billion in bonds to pay for major projects such as housing for veterans and mental health, drug, and/or alcohol facilities.  Proposition 1 will also shift how revenue from the 1% tax on income above $1 million is spent under the law. Proposition 1 renames the Mental Health Services Act (2004) to the Behavioral Health Services Act and expands its purpose to include substance use disorders, including for persons without a mental illness.

The City of Fremont’s Homelessness Response Team is drafting a Homelessness Response Plan for Fremont. The Team will be presenting the plan to City Council in May 2024 for study and potential adoption.
