Applications are being accepted for the position of Building Maintenance Custodian with the City of South San Francisco. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position.

Hourly Rate: $29.11 - $35.39 per hour

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which include moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in performing custodial repair and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work; and techniques for dealing with the public, City staff, and representatives of contractors in an effective manner. The ideal Building Maintenance Custodian will also have the ability to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain basic records; and use materials, tools, and equipment safely and effectively form physical labor, including periodic heavy labor.

The Position

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos and cares for carpets and rugs.
• Dusts and polishes woodwork, furniture, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, walls and other fixtures.
• Empties and cleans trash containers and wastebaskets; picks up paper and other debris.
• Cleans rest rooms and maintain supplies.
• Locks and unlocks doors, as necessary, provides for other forms of building security.
• Sets up rooms for meetings and other special events.
• May deliver materials and supplies to and from City locations.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of janitorial experience 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.

Come join our Orinda Parks and Recreation Facilities Team!

The City of Orinda is looking for responsible, courteous individuals who enjoy working in a hands-on environment, can work independently of supervision and have experience dealing tactfully and effectively with members of the public.  The successful applicant will work on a part time basis with a schedule which will include evening and weekend hours, depending upon programs, rentals and events.   

The Facility Attendant performs custodial duties related to the care and cleaning of assigned facilities, performs a wide variety of duties for events, classes and programs, including setting up and tearing down of tables, chairs, equipment and supplies and will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide friendly and professional customer service by greeting Community Center visitors, serving as a main point of contact during activities and events primarily in evenings, weekends and special events.

Performs custodial duties at assigned facilities which include, but are not limited to cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing, stripping and polishing floors; cleaning furniture, woodwork, fixtures, equipment, supplies, doors, windows, walls, walkways, driveways, and facility grounds; disposing of trash.

Set up all necessary equipment and furniture such as tables, chairs, podiums, and A/V equipment for indoor and/or outdoor events.

Inspects facilities and equipment, reports issues in a timely manner to appropriate higher-level staff; performs minor facility maintenance.

Explain and follow City and department policies and procedures.

Provide information and feedback to Facility and Parks Supervisor.

Opens, closes, secures and alarms facilities in compliance with standard procedures.

Supervise and interact with rental guests, responding by assisting with any facility needs.

Assists in monitoring and maintaining equipment and supplies.

May perform clean up duties as needed, including but not limited to:  move and arrange furniture and equipment, restroom cleaning, sweeping and mopping, and garbage pick-up and removal.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Equivalent to a High School Diploma.

Experience:  Experience in custodial and facility operations is desirable.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License with a demonstrated history of safe driving.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Must be willing to work a scheduled variety of hours, which may include evenings, and/or weekends, as needed.

Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to enable the employee to safely lift, move, climb, walk safely on even or uneven grounds, or maneuver in whatever way may be necessary to successfully perform the duties of their position; ability to travel to different sites and locations.

Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment medical exam.  Additionally, individuals working in Parks & Recreation are required to be tested for TB.

Course Instructors have the opportunity plan curriculum in your area of expertise and share that knowledge with a class size of 5-15 students. We need instructors for all types of programs and classes at the Community Center, with a focus on adult/senior education. We are looking for instructors with skill levels able to teach their craft to others with multiple years of experience. DEFINITION: Plan, organize and execute personal curriculum program classes. Program hours based on class date, time, location with your direct supervisor.  Preparation hours can be discussed.

The Belmont Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for part-time Building Attendants. Building Attendants provide operational supervision of facilities during the absence of full-time staff.

Building Attendant I - This is the entry level class in the Building Attendant series.  Incumbents in this class work under close supervision.  As experience is gained, incumbents may be granted more independence of action under established guidelines.

Building Attendant II - This is the journey level class in the Building Attendant series. Incumbents are expected to work independently in the absence of close supervision.
