ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of High School or College Summer Inter for the Community Development Department. This employment opportunity is excellent for a well- organized person seeking some summer work experience and getting exposure to government and specifically to work in Community Development. The primary responsibility of this position is to help with data entry and document preparation. The position will also be able to shadow planners and building staff on counter duties, attend meetings and assist staff on planning projects as schedules permit. 

This Summer Intern position is a non-benefit casual position. This casual position work schedule will vary (as needed) between 15-20 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.

The BeautifySJ is a blight reduction, neighborhood beautification, and encampment management program within the Community Services Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department. DESCRIPTION 

The City of Thousand Oaks is in search of the next member of our growing HR team!  We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and strategic Associate HR Analyst – Talent Development Specialist to support the Human Resources Department's talent development initiatives!  This position will develop and conduct professional development training curriculum, and programs to improve individual skills and organizational performance. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Contribute to the design, development, implementation, evaluation and continuity of talent development programs and initiatives 

• Assess the best learning methods for a diverse range of learning needs, including in-person/virtual instructor-led trainings (ILTs) and e-learning videos

• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of facilities throughout the day
• Demonstrate proficiency with word processing, data entry and organization

Depending on the specific work assignment, Recreation Specialists also are responsible for:

• Handling money and electronic transactions
• Organizing class sign in sheets
• Monitoring, organizing, and running community programs
• Basketball, volleyball and softball scorekeeping
• Leading children in organized afterschool and summer camp programs and activities
• Food preparation and food service in City nutrition programs.

Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the community services, business administration, or a related field.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. ABOUT THE POSITION

In working with the Youth and Teen Unit individuals will have the opportunity to be a part of a team of dedicated Program leaders who are passionate about the community and inspiring youth to reach their full potential.   The City of Redwood City is providing after school program opportunities for youth at the Sandpiper Community Center in Redwood City. The City is looking for highly motivated program leaders to assist with academic support, and planning, organizing a variety enrichment activities. This position will report directly to the Recreation and Community Services Program Coordinator and will work approximately 20-28 hours per week, Monday - Friday during the school year (August 2023 to June 2024 depending on site assignment).   Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide academic/homework support to encourage them to do their best.
• Plan, organize and conduct recreation enrichment activities for youth.
• Encourage students to engage in a variety of health and enrichment activities and community services projects.
• Be a positive role model to participants, insuring that participants are physically and emotionally safe.
• Assist in preparing activity calendars, lessons plans that create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for participants to excel.
• Supervise participants, insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities.
• Maintain and care for equipment; prepare activity calendars, bulletin boards, lesson plans and/or coaching strategies as appropriate to help promote and plan activities effectively.
• Assist in organizing, promoting, directing and staffing; report to supervisors orally and in writing.
