This vacancy is specifically for the Field Operations CSO position.

The City of Foster City is looking for a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Police Department as a Senior Community Services Officer. This position requires mature judgement and discretion and is given specialized training. We are seeking highly skilled individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Under general supervision, this position supplements administrative staff and provides support for sworn staff in police operations. There are four main assignment areas for the position, but currently there is only one vacancy in Field Operations.

Field Operations Assignment:
Performs vehicle abatement duties, provides parking enforcement, performs evidence collection and processing in accordance with departmental procedures, prepares police and operational reports. Responds to subpoenas as necessary. Handle a variety of department fleet maintenance and equipment maintenance duties; run errands in support of department operations, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education:  A high school diploma or equivalent with courses in office administration or specialized job training, with undergraduate college course work, specialized administrative or law enforcement education and/or training. An associate degree is desirable.

Experience:  Two (2) years of full-time experience using computers, telephones, radios and other modern office equipment and programs including preparing, compiling and distributing records, budgets, reports and statistical information. Prior experience in Property/Evidence is desirable.

Selection Process

The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Principal Staff Specialist in the Strategic Incentives Division (SI) Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented position.

The Strategic Incentives Division supports the Air District’s mission by implementing incentive programs (grant programs) that achieve voluntary reductions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, primarily from on- and off-road vehicles and equipment that operate in the Air District’s jurisdiction. In 2023-2024, the SI Division is administering more than $90 million in new revenue to fund programs and projects that replace older diesel-fueled vehicles and equipment such as school and transit buses, marine vessels, locomotives, trucks, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, and other mobile equipment, with newer, cleaner alternatives, including zero-emission technologies, and install refueling/charging infrastructure that supports the accelerated adoption of zero-emissions vehicles and equipment. Other programs administered support the reduction of single-occupancy vehicle, provide cash and mobility options to residents for turning in their older vehicles, and provide grants to reduce pollution from woodburning devices. The Division develops programs to meet community identified strategies for reducing air quality disparities and that benefit the Bay Area’s most overburdened communities.

About you in the position

The Principal Staff Specialist (AB 617 role) in the SI Division will coordinate the division's efforts in bringing greater equity to grant programs through program development, collaboration with other divisions, and engagement with communities under the AB 617 program. With your in-depth knowledge of the Air District’s emission reduction grant programs, you will lead the division's participation in internal and external AB 617 engagement, including communicating the role of the division; analyzing, reporting, and presenting information about air quality improvement incentive programs and mobile sources, participating in community meetings, proposing and guiding discussions on incentive-related emission reduction strategies and actions, developing plans/programs to implement action, and soliciting feedback on strategy implementation. Examples of other tasks include preparing written materials related to grant programs, reports and plans; proposing recommendations for updates to current incentive programs; developing and supporting the development of new programs; assessing impacts of regulatory actions on mobile source categories; presenting to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders; and leading and training staff. This position will require working nights and weekends on occasion to attend community meetings and public events. THE POSITION:

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Patrol various areas within the City by driving a police vehicle or by walking to prevent criminal activity, to enforce various laws, regulations, and codes.
• Respond to radio dispatched calls and reports to crime scenes or locations of disorder to protect life and property.
