Under the general supervision of a Senior Engineer, the Associate Engineer position performs a variety of professional engineering, plan review, and inspection work.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:
 

• Examine plans, perform calculations and review specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with the California Building Code, California Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal regulations, and applicable NFPA standards and local ordinances.
• Provide technical advice to consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, department officers and staff, and the Fire Marshal on the application or interpretation of fire safety codes/regulations, and on the resolution of fire safety issues found in the preliminary design of buildings.

We're seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Safety & Health team at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). In this position, you'll handle challenging industrial hygiene tasks related to hazardous materials and other health and environmental risks at the Airport. You'll independently conduct regular monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents, while also serving as a technical expert and consultant in implementing occupational safety and health regulations. Your responsibilities include assessing industrial hygiene data concerning public health matters, designing and delivering occupational health and safety training sessions, responding to and assessing hazardous materials incidents, conducting ergonomic assessments, and fulfilling any other related duties as needed.

Essential Duties: 

• Serves as a technical advisor to departmental management and other personnel in identifying, containing, and regulating the use and storage of hazardous materials; in developing and implementing inspection practices and procedures.
• Investigates and evaluates health and safety hazards and coordinates remedial action with representatives from various City and County departments, other agencies, businesses, and the public; conducts surveys of potentially hazardous workplace operations, including monitoring for physical, biological, and chemical agents, evaluating results, recommending corrective actions and preparing reports.
• Anticipates, identifies, evaluates, and controls occupational safety and health and environmental hazards for personnel working in proximity to hazardous waste remediation or hazardous materials.
• Develops, modifies, and/or maintains health and safety programs for City and County of San Francisco personnel.
• Develop policies and procedures for responding to hazardous materials incidents and implementation of environmental health and safety laws, codes, and regulations.
• Develops and conducts health and safety training, and conducts programs concerning the proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and the regulation of hazardous materials according to law.
• Performs assessments to identify and resolve ergonomic issues in a variety of work settings.
• Advises program and departmental management on matters about public health and safety, the handling and containment of hazardous materials incidents, and evaluation procedures.

Education:

Possession of a Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicant’s college level (undergraduate or masters) coursework must include a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics.

Experience:

Two (2) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

License and Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license; if not a California driver's license ability to obtain a California Driver’s License within 45 days of hire.

Substitution:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; Occupational Safety & Health; or in a closely related major (examples include but are not limited to toxicology; chemistry, physics; biology; or mechanical, chemical, or environmental engineering) which includes a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics, if accompanied by three (3) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

How to qualify

1. Four (4) years of experience supervising survey parties.
2. Possession of a valid California Professional Land Surveyor License, or a valid California Civil Engineer License (issued in 1981 or before).
3. Possession of a valid California driver license (at least Class C).

Note: At least one year of experience in county subdivision mapping is required for the position located in the Bureau of Street Use and Mapping at the Department of Public Works in addition to the Minimum Qualifications above.

Serves as the technical lead on the design and implementation of Valley Water’s most complex and highly integrated Cyber Security systems involving new, unfamiliar, or emerging technologies; to perform the most complex professional level duties in the development, installation, coding, integration, documentation, testing, and maintenance of Cyber Security controls and systems; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Cyber Security: monitor and maintain security on infrastructure systems including IT security applications and appliances. Example: Microsoft security patching, updating appliance firmware, maintaining Cyber Security definitions, monitoring Anti-Spam solution, monitoring Cyber Security appliances, and recommending modifications to existing Cyber Security hardware, software, and overall security stance. Manages and monitors vulnerability scanning tools and makes recommendations to remediate identified Cyber Security vulnerabilities. The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) division is leading one of the largest public works programs in San José's history! The division is responsible for delivering a 10-year capital improvement program estimated at $1.4 billion and assuring the future of wastewater treatment services for 1.7million residents and 17,000 businesses.

The CIP division performs the overall planning and project delivery for all aspects of the RWF treatment process, including program administration and budget planning. The Environmental Services Department is currently seeking to fill one ( 1 ) full-time Senior Engineering Technician vacanc y in the CIP division. This position is a higher-level class in the Engineering Technic ian series and may supervise Engineering Technicians and Interns.

The selected candidate will work from the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility. The Senior Engineering Technician will be responsible for providing technical support to a variety of ESD projects through planning, detailed design, bid and award, procurement, construction, post construction, and code compliance. Under supervision of the Grounds Supervisor and under direction of the Maintenance II, Parks and Grounds lead person, incumbents in this classification work individually or as a member of a parks and grounds crew in the upkeep of City parks, medians, and satellite facilities including bus, equipment, and flora; perform related work as required.

Maintenance Trainee – Is an entry-level trainee position. Incumbents learn to perform the full scope of duties of the Maintenance I class. StopWaste is hiring an Energy Council Program Services Specialist to work on Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) programs. The position will conduct community outreach and engage with stakeholders to make energy upgrades and electrify multifamily and single family buildings in Alameda County and the larger Bay Area. It will also work on growing and strengthening the clean energy workforce to help achieve energy and climate goals. DEFINITION

Under general supervision, perform various planning work, with the primary responsibility of assisting the general public on planning, zoning, and environmental requirements.  The position also helps review development and land use applications for zoning compliance, completes technical assessments and prepares written project analyses, and performs related work as required. 

The Planning Technician position is an entry-level position where technical assistance is provided to support professional staff and handle specialized project and program assignments.

Work is split between in-office and fieldwork.  Conditions involve some travel and may occasionally involve modified work hours or workdays to attend evening public hearings or weekend public outreach events.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Chief of Planning. This position does not exercise supervision over others.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Provide assistance and information to the general public, developers and contractors related to planning, zoning, and environmental requirements. 
• Serve as the primary reviewer of Building Permits for zoning compliance.  
• Process administrative current planning applications (e.g., sign permits, tree removal permits, land use permits, development plans, etc.).
• Provide staff support as needed to the Planning Division, Planning Commission, Design Review Board, Historic Resource Commission and other Town departments and divisions as assigned.
