The Environmental Services Department provides comprehensive and innovative environmental utility services for Sunnyvale's residents and businesses and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The department brings together technical, operational, and administrative professional disciplines to form its dedicated and dynamic team.

The Environmental Services Department is currently recruiting for TWO vacancies, one regular full-time and one term-limited full-time (2 year assignment), in the position of Environmental Compliance Inspector to support the City's environmental inspection programs. These programs help protect our waterways and the San Francisco Bay by ensuring that businesses and residents are implementing best management practices to prevent water pollution and are in compliance with Federal and local water quality regulations. Environmental Compliance Inspectors work closely with a wide variety of businesses to ensure that the composition of their wastewater is in compliance with City requirements and does not compromise the integrity of the City's Water Pollution Control Plant or the sewer collection system. Such businesses range from aerospace and semiconductor manufacturers to dental offices and restaurants. The inspection team is also advancing multiple stormwater initiatives such as trash reduction and controls for pollutants of concern such as mercury and PCBs.

Under general direction, performs journey level inspection and enforcement activities on industrial, commercial, and residential discharges to the sewage and storm drain system for compliance with codes and laws regulating waste processes; and does other related work, as required.

The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for a Principal Water Pollution Control Plan Operator.  This position, reporting to the Water Pollution Control Operations Manager, undertakes supervisory responsibilities at the Sunnyvale Water Pollution Control Plant (SWPCP). Their duties include providing instruction, troubleshooting, and maintenance related to plant operations, supervising training programs, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of equipment, and coordinating with various stakeholders.

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, and
• Five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant with at least 3 years at the shift supervisor level as defined by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).  The Senior WPC Operator position at the SWPCP is considered equivalent to the SWRCB Shift Supervisor definition.
• Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Quality Control Board

About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of 15 in the Natural Resources Department, which is part of the Visitor and Field Services service line. The Earth Sciences Program is comprised of 4 fulltime program staff, including this position, and a shared intern. This is a supervisory position for the Earth Sciences Program, comprised of water resources, soil conservation, archaeological resources, Native American relations, and climate program. The City of San José is hiring an Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Services (PBCS) Technical Lead (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) to provide technical support for Oracle PBCS which is used to prepare the City's Capital, Operating, and Revenue Budgets. The PBCS Technical Lead will also support the three custom budget applications: Fees and Charges, Ordinance Tracking, and Budget to Finance ERP Interface and the Budget Office (BO). The BO is responsible for developing and managing the City's operating and capital budgets and service fees and charges. This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills, as well as the ability to take initiative and lead others. We are seeking an individual who is willing to adapt to an ever-changing environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and functional background supporting Oracle PBCS and/or Oracle Hyperion Planning, and multi-dimensional databases with strong analytical skills. In addition, development experience using .NET Framework, Java, or JavaScript to effectively manage and support custom-developed applications is essential. Expertise should cover the entire system implementation lifecycle including gathering business requirements, creating functional and technical designs, application development, and administration.
Key duties include but are not limited to:
