The Position
In general, the Supervising Custodian is responsible for planning, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating the work of a group of custodians engaged in cleaning and general maintenance of County buildings, offices, institutions, and other facilities.
 
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of recent custodial/janitorial experience in a large institution, including one year in a supervisory role. They should possess extensive technical knowledge of modern custodial equipment and cleaning methods, along with basic computer skills.

This ideal candidate also is an effective communicator who builds trust, motivates a cohesive team, and works alongside them to foster a results-driven attitude. They are a critical thinker who goes beyond routine tasks, maintains a meticulous approach to cleanliness, and ensures a professional environment. They take the initiative to address issues like dirty walls or door handles without being asked and inspire their team to do the same. Strong customer service skills and a warm, friendly demeanor are essential.
 
The current vacancy requires working an evening shift from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM PST. There may be occasional weekend shifts as well.

IMPORTANT: Candidates will be required to complete an extensive security clearance package and undergo a thorough background check conducted by the County of San Mateo Sheriff's Office prior to hire. The selected candidate MUST BE cleared to work around detainees in a locked facility.

 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supervise and direct the activities and staff involved in keeping buildings and facilities clean, orderly, sanitary, and safe.
• Plan, schedule, and assign work.
• Participate in the hiring of assigned staff; recommend selection for management approval.
• Train assigned staff on technical and safety related topics; ensure employees comply with safety practices and procedures.
• Evaluate employee performance, counsel employees, and effectively recommend disciplinary action and other personnel decisions.

• Inspect assigned areas to review work in progress and report any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions to buildings or grounds for which responsible.

• Request, sign for, and receive delivery of materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Prepare reports and maintain records.
• Maintain adequate stock of supplies and equipment.
• Conduct periodic safety meetings for custodians supervised.
• Direct and assist in the preparation of rooms for meetings.
• May assist custodians in performing work as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

License:

• Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California class C driver license or its equivalent.

• A typical way to qualify is three years of experience performing custodial/janitorial work.

• Supervisory principles and practices, including work planning, scheduling, review, evaluation, and employee training and discipline
• Cleaning methods, equipment, and supplies
• Proper methods for clean-up and disposal of hazardous wastes

Within the Finance and Administration Division, the Port's Information Technology group consists of Business Applications and Infrastructure teams. We support the Port's mission, strategic plan, and daily operations with a focus on positive relationships with and quality service to everyone associated with the Port.

Under the general direction of the Information Systems Director, the Business Applications Manager (1070 IS Project Director) manages the Business Applications team, which is responsible for providing comprehensive production maintenance and support of the Port's various systems and business applications to ensure optimal uninterrupted daily operations. The areas of support include but not limited to, supply chain management (SCM), procurement, payroll, timekeeping, human resources, financials, collections, property management, maritime, reporting, interfaces, document management, and collaborative tools.

A critical function of the role also includes providing techno-functional leadership on application-related projects.  The Port is initiating a long-term strategy to modernize and upgrade software applications and retire its aging and custom legacy applications, such as with the Oracle 11i eBusiness Suite ERP system, which is used to track work requests, facilitate work orders, maintain assets and inventory, manage time keeping, procurement, and other vital functions. As the application has become obsolete and minimally supported by Oracle, there is an urgent need to identify and implement a new software solution.  The Business Applications Manager will serve as the technical lead on this replacement project currently underway, working alongside a project manager, vendors, the Business Applications team, and Port staff.

The essential functions of this position include: 

• Organize, direct, and supervise the work of a small team of techno-functional, senior level, business system analysts and external consultants.
• Collaborate with the team on escalated issues technically complex in nature to bring about resolution. 
• Lead technology projects and formulate strategies for business applications development and integration with other applications, such as with GIS and PROPworks.
• Serve as a liaison between Port staff and applications, facilitating effective communication to define project requirements and objectives.
• Participate in the planning of resources, budgets, and project timelines. 
• Oversee the further development of, and promote the usage of, collaborative and document management tools like SharePoint. 
• Monitor system alerts, and work with the Port IT Infrastructure team, consultants, and vendors to resolve system-related issues affecting application uptime.
• Implement and upgrade system hardware and application software as needed. 
• Ensure that the organization adheres to IT best practices, policies, and procedures in compliance with industry and regulatory standards.

Education:

1. An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

OR

2. Its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units:

• At least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely related field.

Experience

Seven (7) years of experience in system administration, information systems development, maintenance and support, or information technology project management, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

Substitution

Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years).

Note:

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours of work experience (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours a week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units / forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.

NATURE OF WORK

The Woodland Public Library is seeking a team-orientated, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking Library Program Manager to provide oversight, development, and implementation of programs and services primarily related to adult services with general library support. Library Program Manager I: This is the entry level class in the professional library series. Assignments are generally limited in scope and within the design and procedural framework established by the Library Services Director. Library Program Manager II: This is the journey level class in the professional library series. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Librarian Program Manager I, or when filled from the outside, require prior professional library work experience.  Appointment to the higher class requires that the employee be performing substantially the full range of duties for the class and meet the qualification standards for the class. Work in this class is distinguished from that of a Library Program Manager I by greater complexity of the assignments received and by greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate.

• Develops and interprets division policies.

About the Position

The Public Works Maintenance Worker I is an entry-level classification in the Maintenance Worker series. Assigned duties in this classification are routine tasks requiring no experience or limited experience. Employees at this level perform a limited range of duties under immediate supervision in accordance with established guidelines and procedures and are not expected to perform with the same independence of supervision and judgment on matters related to Town guidelines and procedures as Level II/III.

Employees at this level receive immediate supervision from a manager designated by the City Manager and functional supervision from higher level Maintenance Workers. Incumbents may provide limited direction to less experienced employees in this classification or to seasonal workers.

Minimum Qualifications

• License: Possession of a valid, appropriate State of California Driver’s License.

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of:

•  Basic skills in landscape maintenance, carpentry and plumbing, mechanics.
• Tools and equipment used in public works maintenance and construction.

Primary responsibilities:

Circulation Services staff perform a variety of clerical and office support duties in a teamwork-oriented environment.  Primary responsibilities include providing in-person service at a Circulation Desk and over the phone, checking materials in and out, resolving problems such as lost and damaged or claims returned items, and registering or updating library cards.  Hourly Library Aides also assist full-time staff in tracking overdue materials, collection notices, and hold requests.

The City of Dixon is looking to fill one full-time position for a Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works Department and to create an eligibility list for future use. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of the City's parks, buildings, streets, storm drain ponds and related facilities; to perform related duties as assigned.

Exam Process: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience may participate in a written exam pass/fail and then in an interview process (weighted 100%). The most qualified candidates from this process will be placed on an employment eligibility list. Under direction, the Custodian performs routine manual cleaning tasks in public buildings, schools, other facilities, and surrounding areas. 

Examples of essential duties include but not limited to the following:

• Sweeps, scrubs, mops, spots and waxes floors; vacuums and cleans rugs and carpets.
• Cleans, dusts and polishes cabinets, furniture and woodwork; empties and cleans waste receptacles and ashtrays.

• In recreational areas, cleans auditoriums, gymnasiums, club houses and locker rooms; picks up papers and rubbish in play areas; hangs flags and decorations; reports evidences of vandalism, broken plumbing, windows, doors, locks, etc.
• May wash interior glass partitions and interior and exterior windows which can be easily reached from floor or ground level.
• As school custodian, may supervise and maintain order among students during recess periods; distributes milk or other refreshments to students; performs minor duties in repairing  chairs, desks and toys.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
