The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. SJFD is a high-volume, all-hazards fire department providing fire suppression and rescue services that protects approximately 200 square miles, Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support services as well as specialized operations including Urban Search and Rescue, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, and a Hazardous Material Unit with a Decontamination Unit. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. Incumbents will learn techniques in emergency medical services, rescue work, firefighting and other emergency services. Duties may involve considerable physical exertion and potential risk to health and safety. Work is rigidly structured, highly supervised, and incumbents are continuously evaluated and receive feedback regularly. Firefighter Recruits must graduate from the Academy and be appointed to the class of Firefighter in order to retain employment in the job series.

Benefits

• $86,683 to $105,364 annually
• Non-exempt employees assigned to a 56-hour (average) workweek schedule will receive pay for overtime as defined in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). All overtime shall be paid at a rate of one and one-half (1 ½) times the regular hourly rate of pay.
• All covered employees hired on or after December 28, 2012, who are not defined as “new members” under the Public Employees Pension Reform Act (“PEPRA”) will be covered by the 3% @ 55 retirement formula and the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation provision.  All covered employees hired on or after January 1, 2013, and who are defined as “new members” under PEPRA will be covered by the 2.7% at 57 retirement formula and the 36 highest consecutive months’ final compensation provision. 
• Regular employees, after completion of their probationary period, shall be eligible for the Health Care Reimbursement Program. Eligible employees receive a credit of $1300 each January 1.
• For all regular employees working full time, the District will pay 85% of the premiums currently in effect for employee and dependent coverage for the lowest cost plan available to District employees offered through the PERS system.
• For all regular employees working full-time, the District will pay 85% of the premiums for employee and dependent coverage for the lowest-cost dental plan.  In the event the employees elect a higher cost coverage, the employees shall pay the increased cost for that plan.
• A Group Life Insurance Plan will be provided with a $25,000 life insurance policy for each unit member, a $1,000 policy for each employee's spouse, and a $1,000 for each employee's dependent under the age of 21.  The CCSD will pay the full monthly premium for each unit member, spouse, and dependent children.
• Covered employees assigned to a 56-hour average workweek schedule shall accrue 4.31 hours of vacation leave biweekly (112 hrs/yr) from the date of hire to sixty (60) months of service.
• Each full-time employee, assigned to a 56-hour average workweek, shall accrue sick leave from the date of employment at the rate of 6.4 hours per 14-day payroll period (based on 120 hours per year times the conversion factor of 1.4).
• In lieu of time off on holidays, covered employees assigned to a 56-hour workweek shall accrue 5.92 hours of holiday leave per 14-day payroll period for a total of 154 hours per year (based on 110 hours per year times the conversion factor of 1.4). 
• The District shall provide covered employees with an annual boot or safety shoe allowance of $250, payable in July of each year.

Parks Planning and Design Manager Class Specification

Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and directs the activities of the Landscape Architecture Division; serves as a key staff member in the administration, development, and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the City’s Park Master Plan; oversees and directs the supervision and activities of citywide tree preservation and landscape development policies; and gives professional advice on landscape matters.

Class Characteristics 
This is a single position management classification reporting to the Community Services Director.  The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of department policy as it relates to division activities and follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; the incumbent is expected to identify policy issues and work with other staff to develop options and recommend solutions.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Landscape Architect by the latter’s responsibility to manage the staff and activities of one or more sections of the Landscape Architecture Division.

Under the administrative direction of the Ports Finance and Administration Division, the Information Systems (IS) Director plans, directs, and coordinates information system operations and activities for the Port of San Francisco. This includes overseeing system design, development, and implementation, as well as coordinating data and information systems across departments. The IS Director is responsible for the operation and maintenance of these systems.

The Port is in the process of replacing several business-critical systems in the next five years, including real estate and work order management systems.  The IS Director will lead these efforts, requiring the creation of a systems strategic plan that aligns different systems with the Port’s primary business needs while integrating with citywide financial and payroll systems.  This plan will involve collaborating with business divisions to identify and prioritize system requirements, such as vacancy, profit and loss, and common area expense allocation reports for the real estate portfolio, as well as berthing management systems for various visiting ships and boats.

The IS Director will also identify necessary business division process changes and establish short- and long-term deliverables. This position oversees two distinct functions: an applications group responsible for implementing and maintaining technology applications tailored to the Port’s needs, and an infrastructure group that ensures a stable and secure environment for desktop and mobile devices.

• Develops and implements the strategic systems plan for the Port.
• Leads the IS division, building capacity and supporting the infrastructure and business applications teams.
• Plans and directs the day-to-day information systems activities for the Port, including application and infrastructure support, desktop administration and IS Help Desk support services.
• Performs continuous evaluation and assessment of all activities, providing timely reports to upper management. 
• Develops and manages the IS budget, including project management and hardware/software procurement.
• Develops and manages the Port’s technology policies, standards, and strategy, ensuring alignment with citywide technology goals and standards.
• Oversees devices and information management, security and compliance, risk management and response, and technology governance.
• Supervises, evaluates, trains, and coach staff and consultants in the performance of their assigned duties, adhering to departmental and city and county standards, policies, and procedures.
• Serves as liaison and representative of the Port with various City and County staff, policy-making officials, and officials of external agencies. 

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough. The Department serves a population of 66,045 from six fire stations across a service area of approximately 15 square miles. CCFD is supported by 91 FTEs and a FY2023-24 operating budget of $33.14 million. 

CCFD seeks a hands-on human resources professional with a solid foundation in public sector personnel management. This knowledgeable individual will have a well-rounded background and understanding of the various human resources disciplines, with particular strength in labor relations. As the sole service provider in Human Resources, they will enjoy multi-tasking and working on a variety of projects and priorities in a supportive and collaborative organization.

The HR Manager will oversee recruitment and selection, labor and employee relations, employee training and development, performance management, classification and compensation, benefits, leave management, and Workers’ Compensation administration.

Salary range $144,630 - $175,799; salary supplemented by highly competitive benefits. Placement within the range will be dependent on qualifications and experience. Closes 11:59 pm on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
