Under the supervision of the Fire Marshal, is responsible for performing plan review, inspections, and other duties as required.  The position will also be involved to varying degrees with public education, public relations, exterior hazard abatement, engine company pre-fire planning, record keeping, and report writing.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Receives supervision from the Fire Marshal. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This position is responsible for the review of plans, to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local fire safety laws, ordinances, and codes. Although not all inclusive, the following serve to represent the various types of plans to be reviewed: planning applications; applications for the subdivision of land; site plans for access and water supply; building and tenant improvement plans; fire protection systems including fire sprinkler, fire alarm, kitchen hood extinguishing systems; and other types of plan reviews that are part of various fire code permitted activities.  

Other duties include attending meetings with other local government agencies such as planning and building departments, architects, contractors, developers, and the general public.  Utilizes the District’s citation process when appropriate and when other means of gaining voluntary compliance are unsuccessful. This position is responsible for conducting in-house training and updating of field inspection staff members on changes occurring in codes enforced by the District.  This position is also responsible for the formulation of standardized field inspection guidelines and record keeping systems for construction projects. Provides supervision, work direction, and technical assistance as directed. Participates in the code change process at the state and international levels. Utilizes tools and technology identified by the District related to performance of tasks. Supports emergency operations as requested and appropriate.

The position is responsible for performing inspections of both new and existing buildings; witnessing various tests required for sophisticated fire protection equipment and verifying proper operation and compliance with applicable codes and standards; prepares necessary correspondence, reports, and records; with regards to projects, confers with architects, engineers, developers, etc.; attends training courses and meetings of professional organizations as directed; performs surveys of fire hazards and processes complaints; conducts and participates in public education and public relations programs; performs other related duties as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: At least three years’ experience in an organized fire prevention/fire and life safety bureau.  Experience must include involvement in the following duties and responsibilities: fire inspection, plan review, and public education/relations.

Education / Certification: An Associate of Arts/Science Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. The successful completion of the following California State Fire Training: Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, Fire Inspector 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, and Plans Examiner 1A, 1B, 1C, and CA Statues and Regulations.

Desirable Education / Certification: Must have or obtain within one year of employment, certification as an International Code Council Fire Plans Examiner. Employees are required to maintain certification as a condition of employment. Must obtain within three years of employment, California State Fire Marshal certification for Plans Examiner.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Community Development Department (CD) is seeking a value-driven team player to fill the position of Planning Intern. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic college level student seeking broad experience within a dynamic City Planning Division. The Planning Division of the Community Development Department administers City Council policies contained in the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and other plans and ordinances. In addition, the Division establishes new and amended rules governing land use and urban design for adoption by City Council from the platform of the General Plan. The Planning Intern will assist with a number of projects and efforts throughout the Division, which may include:

• Review of minor planning applications and building permits for compliance with required standards

Position Duties

The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill a Systems Application Programmer I/II (SAP I/II) position within the Technology Services team to support the Animal Care and Services Division (ACS). This position is responsible for contributing to good data hygiene, building dashboards and reports, authoring SOPs for various Chameleon workflows, providing desktop and mobile device support, and supporting ACS tech projects.

Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI):

• SAP II: $98,629.44 - $119,945.28 annually

This is a temporary (Overstrength) position that is anticipated to be funded through June 30, 2026, subject to further extension as appropriate. This position is part of the Technology Services Division team but is assigned to ACS and fully dedicated to supporting ACS technology functions, including both application and desktop support. This is an individual contributor role that requires a commitment to building and maintaining quality data, strong attention to detail, excellent customer service, understanding of ACS business processes and workflows, and deep understanding of Chameleon software and backend database.

Under the direction of a senior team member, the SAP I/II will maintain the Chameleon application and underlying data, build and maintain dashboards and reports, and provide desktop support to ACS users. Key responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Provide end-to-end support for the Chameleon application, including creating user accounts, assigning privileges, providing user training, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and maintaining documentation.
• Perform regular data validation checks on Chameleon backend data to ensure integrity. Identify and correct data issues and provide direction to users associated with recurring data errors.
• Roll out Chameleon modules to rescue partners and volunteers. Onboard users and providing ongoing support and maintenance of web-based modules.
• Develop dashboards and reports from Chameleon and ancillary data sources, ensuring validity and integrity of data presented and alignment with other dashboards and reports.
• Manage inventory of approx. 200 Crystal Reports and develop thorough understanding of how they are used. Serve as SME to vet all requests for new reports or modifications to ensure consistency across reports and avoid duplication.
• Provide regular training sessions and Chameleon office hours to promote proper use of the software and valid data entry across the organization.
• Meet with end users to understand requirements for new capabilities, reports, or workflows. Design and build using available tools in the PW technology stack, and/or collaborate with software vendors to enhance system capabilities and ensure optimal use.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive standard operating procedures for data management and tech workflows and functions.
• Provide desktop and mobile device support to ACS staff, including imaging, installing, and configuring new devices; maintaining asset inventory; troubleshooting device issues; and setting up equipment and providing general IT support for offsite events.  

To effectively carry out this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

• Expert knowledge of Chameleon software, its underlying database, and data management workflows.
• Knowledge of T-SQL and ability to develop complex queries for data validation and reporting.
• Proficiency with analytics and reporting tools, preferably, Crystal Reports and Tableau.
• Experience supporting web-based and client/server applications.
• Experience providing desktop support for Win 11 and iOS devices.
• Proactive attitude, excellent communication skills, and persistence to track down answers needed to complete projects or resolve issues.
• Familiarity with animal shelter operations, business workflows, and data collection is highly desired.

The Department of Public Works is looking for a highly motivated Information Technology (IT) Technician. Under general supervision, the IT Technician will be responsible for supporting the IT staff with general desktop support and access control systems support. General duties include imaging PC's, installing software and hardware, documenting procedures, keeping accurate records, providing advice to users of application software, and training users to make appropriate and safe usage of the IT infrastructure. The Department 
The Department of Public Works is unique by being one of the few departments in San Mateo County to have its own internal, full-service IT unit, Business Systems Section. BSS is a small group of dedicated IT staff who are responsible for a wide range of roles in Information Technology: from handling core IT functions to providing GIS support to handling access control.

Working in BSS, staff have the opportunity to learn and work with many different aspects of technology including desktop support, enterprise application support, design/ implement/ maintain server, and network infrastructure, creating GIS maps and spatial applications, internet/ intranet web design and support, databases, and even some programming opportunities.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Managing technology asset inventory; deploy, setup, and maintain inventory of technology devices such as laptops, workstations, servers and peripheral equipment; prepare decommissioned equipment for surplus pickup and/or storage; order equipment and supplies as required.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. 

A typical way to qualify is:

• Education: Possession of a high school diploma and technical certification from an accredited college in a specified area with coursework in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field.
• Experience: One year of full-time experience performing information systems equipment installation, system support, and/or user support duties.

For the Desktop support area

• Computer networks and systems, their operation, support, development and migration.
• Computer hardware and software products in use on the department and across the industry.

Physical Requirements:

• Stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, walks, sits, and reaches by extending hands and arms in any direction on a consistent and daily basis.

Selection Process

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional specialized training in drafting, graphic design, urban planning, surveying, engineering, mathematics, computer science, the physical sciences or a related field is desirable.

Experience:
Two years of work experience, preferably in a municipal setting.

License or Certificate:
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

The City of Sunnyvale is looking for an Applications Analyst II to join the Information Technology Department (ITD). This position requires a service-oriented focus, ability to support and enhance our Oracle Cloud ERP & HCM applications, along with primary and secondary support roles for multiple enterprise systems including system configuration, reporting and interfaces, day-to-day operational issues, break/fix, maintenance, upgrades, and on-call rotations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with supporting Human Capital Management (HCM/HR) or Financial systems, preferably an integrated ERP/HCM system, ideally Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications. Our Oracle Cloud ERP modules include General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Procure to Pay, Inventory Management, Accounts Receivable and Project Portfolio Management, and HCM includes Core HR, Benefits, Absence, Time and Labor and Payroll. The candidate will be detail-oriented, able to create and edit documentation, possess strong customer service skills, and understand technical complexities involved in functional configuration, integration, interfaces, and report development with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with end users.
