The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill one (1) Mechanic vacancy and one (1) Senior Mechanic vacancy in the Fleet Services Section of the Maintenance Division.

Mechanics at all levels perform maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and perform other duties as assigned.

The Mechanic is a journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures.

The Senior Mechanic is an advanced journey and lead level position classification in the Mechanic series and may be distinguished from those in the Mechanic class by the broader range of responsibilities and leading a crew. Senior Mechanics provide lead direction and training to section staff.

THE POSITION

Under direction of the City Engineer or Assistant City Engineer, a Senior Civil Engineer supervises field and office work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure; manages land development processes; manages and performs engineering analysis; implements programs and administers projects; may supervise a major section in the Engineering Division; and performs other duties as assigned. The Senior Civil Engineer performs and supervises the most complex engineering assignments.

This Senior Civil Engineer position will manage capital projects and may also oversee some development projects.  Examples of projects include:

• Arroyo Trail T 13, 1.5 miles paved trail through Wente Vineyard and LARPD Sycamore Grove properties and includes a 100’ pedestrian bridge.
• Arroyo Las Positas Creek channel widening, flood walls and Airway Blvd Culvert Replacement adjacent to Las Positas Golf course and Livermore Municipal Airport.
• Bridge Preventive Maintenance Program for 19 city bridges
• Manage other city asset programs such as pavement rehabilitation, sidewalk, ADA ramps.

The Thousand Oaks Library is in search of a Library Assistant who will be a key player in the Technical Services of the Access Services Division. This role offers a unique opportunity to perform a diverse range of library-related clerical duties, from ordering and invoicing to cataloging and processing. We're looking for a candidate who can work independently, apply their technical knowledge, and contribute to the library's best practices in the para-professionals realm. Primary Responsibilities:

• Instruct, coordinate, and schedule Library Pages or volunteers on library procedures; assist with scheduling and overseeing activities. 
• Participates in overseeing the day-to-day operations and services of Technical Services from acquisitions, receiving, and invoicing to cataloging and processing. 
  • Acquisitions: place orders with vendors, ensure orders are received physically and in Sierra, the Library Services Platform; resolve damaged items issues; manage canceled titles; find alternate vendors to fulfill the order. Liaise between vendors and staff to meet the needs of the library. 
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks to ensure invoices accurately reflect goods received; post weekly to update the Fund Report in the integrated library system. 
  • Perform copy cataloging of physical materials, including books, DVDs, or Spoken Word, following existing procedures based on industry-established cataloging standards to update bibliographic records. 
• Ability to interpret general library policies and procedures and apply knowledge using sound judgment 
  • Establish, maintain, and update accurate records and files  
• Technical knowledge 
  • Learn and effectively utilize various computer applications, including but not limited to MS Office365, and Sierra, the Library Services Platform
• Ability to lift, drag, and push/pull files, paper, books, and documents weighing in excess of 25 pounds

Details:

• Salary range from $31.45 - $40.10 with Excellent Benefits (see below)

Minimum qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the building trades and/or code enforcement.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible building inspection experience.

License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Possession of an appropriate, valid building inspector certificate at time of hire.

The Finance Department has an opportunity to staff a Senior Info Technology Technician.  We seek a skilled individual with the competence and experience to address IT challenges confidently and professionally. The successful candidate should have demonstrated skills in the areas of customer focus, communication, teamwork, excellent judgment, and the ability to meet deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities

• Responds to inquiries regarding PC systems and programs at user sites throughout the City
• Troubleshoots hardware and software problems and recommends hardware, software, and configuration changes for City-wide implementation
• Installs desktop/laptop equipment and software; customizes installed software to specific requirements of the user department; reconfigures software to correct problems or conflicts between applications and hardware
• Provide desktop support and troubleshooting to City staff
• Serves as local area network (LAN) administrator; ensures LAN performance, maintains security, creates new users, and installs related hardware
• Installs virus signature files on servers and workstations for use with an anti-virus system; responds to and troubleshoots virus invasions of the City network

WR MECHANIC I - $6,757.36 - $8,199.65 MONTHLY
WR MECHANIC II - $7,621.28 - $9,249.76 MONTHLY

Water Resources Mechanics perform a wide range of tasks involving mechanical maintenance and repairs of pumps, plumbing systems, electric motors, compressors, piping, boilers, underground infrastructure, facilities and buildings, carpentry, HVAC systems, mechanical drives, gear boxes, blowers, collectors, belt filter presses, and chemical feed systems. The work is done at the Water Reclamation Plant, located at 101 West Jack London Boulevard in Livermore.

A Water Resources Mechanic I performs a range of tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported at regular intervals by supervisory review and direction. A Water Resources Mechanic II is distinguished from the WR Mechanic I by the possession of advanced journey level mechanical ability and aptitude and is responsible for solving more difficult technical problems.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department! 

When assigned to development review, you will have the opportunity to review residential, commercial, industrial and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations including all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines; evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects; review plan checks for small developments; and review traffic control plans for construction projects.

When assigned to capital projects designs and traffic signal systems, you will have the opportunity to manage capital improvement projects including development of conceptual design options, detailed engineering design, bid, and construction administration; prepare council reports, conduct presentations, and respond to project-related public inquiries; design/review traffic engineering design elements for Complete Streets Projects and traffic calming projects; work with project development team to analyze street and road use for all road users focusing on safety and efficiency of transportation networks; and work with traffic signal maintenance team to maintain and upgrade city’s traffic signal system, including using Synchro traffic signal timing software. An ideal candidate in this role is proficient in scope, schedule, and cost management with managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously as well as working knowledge of complete streets design principles, traffic calming and traffic control elements, civil engineering, roadway design, and Citywide plans including Bike Plan and Pedestrian Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Desirable qualifications include a master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field.  

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Supervising Librarian at the Berkeley Public Library! In this role, you will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the physical facility, supervision of professional, technical, and support staff, and providing reference and reader advisory services for the public. You will also represent Berkeley Public Library in meetings with the public, citizen groups, and other agencies.

This recruitment will create an eligible list that will be used by various Library divisions to fill future temporary and/or career positions in the next 12 months.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is:
Equivalent to graduation from college or university with a Master's degree in Library Science and three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements include the ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program's needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will have lead or supervisory experience.
