LIBRARIAN I/II – COLLECTION SERVICES- CATALOGING- HEADQUARTERS

FULL TIME – 40 HOURS PER WEEK

 
THE POSITION:
This benefitted, full-time position in the Cataloging Department performs original and derived cataloging for materials in all formats and languages; creates metadata for special collections materials; creates and updates authority records; compiles and reviews records for monthly authority control processing; interprets cataloging policies to staff; and serves as back-up for all copy cataloging tasks and other related duties in the Cataloging Department as needed. The position reports to the Librarian III in the Cataloging Department of the Collection Services Division, located at the Rohnert Park Headquarters.

TYPICAL DUTIES include, but are not limited to:

• Performing original and derived cataloging for special collections materials in all formats, local government documents, local author books; local musician/musical group sound recordings; world language materials and other materials in the circulating/reference collections lacking records; assigns Dewey classification numbers
• Researching names, birth dates, street names, etc. in the Library catalog and other databases to create and update authority records and digital projects metadata
• Entering metadata for photos, archival collections and other special collections materials into Excel spreadsheets
• Loading new records and correcting existing records in the Library’s integrated library system (Horizon), digital asset management system (Quartex), archives system (ArchivesSpace) or other platforms
• Compiling information on new records from a series of monthly reports; investigating problems such as missing or malformed call numbers; and searching WorldCat via OCLC Connexion for replacement records
• Preparing and exporting monthly batches of new bibliographic records to Marcive, Inc. for authority processing; retrieving, importing and troubleshooting processed files 
• Managing retrieval of vendor-provided shelf-ready MARC files via FTP, importing files into Horizon and trouble-shooting problems
• Participating in maintenance and enhancements to the public catalog

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with OCLC Connexion, Horizon, Quartex, ArchivesSpace or similar systems
• Knowledge of metadata standards, digital asset management systems
• Multilingual (Spanish especially helpful)
• Basic programming/scripting/Regular Expressions knowledge helpful

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education and Experience: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university. The Librarian II requires two years of appropriate professional experience working as a professional librarian, preferably in a public library. Must have a valid California driver’s license. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

Per Diem Librarian I

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library has an opening for 2 per diem Librarian I positions with regular schedules (schedules listed below). This recruitment will also be used to fill on call per diem Librarian openings. On call per diem librarians in this role do not have a regular schedule but pick up shifts on an as-needed basis to fill coverage gaps on the Library’s service desks at the Main Library (adult and children’s desks) and branches.

The library is looking for someone who embodies the City of San Mateo’s shared values of respect, creativity, inclusivity, transparency, and integrity to perform a wide variety of library work.

Responsibilities include serving at the Library’s information desks at the Main Library and branches; researching and responding to difficult or technical reference questions; advising and assisting Library patrons; demonstrating the use of on-line library catalogs, databases and other user aids; performing bibliographic searches using online and/or print resources; and performing other tasks as assigned such as assisting with programming and collection management.

SALARY:             $36.90 per hour (Step 1). This position is considered part time and offers limited benefits after working a specified number of hours.

HOURS:              Below are the schedules for the Per Diem Librarian I position. These schedules may be changed in the future to meet the operational needs of the Library. A Sunday shift (1:00-5:00 pm) is required each two-month period.

Under the administrative direction of the Ports Finance and Administration Division, the Information Systems (IS) Director plans, directs, and coordinates information system operations and activities for the Port of San Francisco. This includes overseeing system design, development, and implementation, as well as coordinating data and information systems across departments. The IS Director is responsible for the operation and maintenance of these systems.

The Port is in the process of replacing several business-critical systems in the next five years, including real estate and work order management systems.  The IS Director will lead these efforts, requiring the creation of a systems strategic plan that aligns different systems with the Port’s primary business needs while integrating with citywide financial and payroll systems.  This plan will involve collaborating with business divisions to identify and prioritize system requirements, such as vacancy, profit and loss, and common area expense allocation reports for the real estate portfolio, as well as berthing management systems for various visiting ships and boats.

The IS Director will also identify necessary business division process changes and establish short- and long-term deliverables. This position oversees two distinct functions: an applications group responsible for implementing and maintaining technology applications tailored to the Port’s needs, and an infrastructure group that ensures a stable and secure environment for desktop and mobile devices.

The essential duties of IS Director include the following:

• Develops and implements the strategic systems plan for the Port.
• Leads the IS division, building capacity and supporting the infrastructure and business applications teams.
• Plans and directs the day-to-day information systems activities for the Port, including application and infrastructure support, desktop administration and IS Help Desk support services.
• Performs continuous evaluation and assessment of all activities, providing timely reports to upper management. 
• Develops and manages the IS budget, including project management and hardware/software procurement.
• Develops and manages the Port’s technology policies, standards, and strategy, ensuring alignment with citywide technology goals and standards.
• Oversees devices and information management, security and compliance, risk management and response, and technology governance.

THE POSITION: 
This non-benefitted position performs sorting, shelving and straightening, and related manual work in support of library services. Under direction of the Adult Services Administrator and the Supervising Literacy Program Coordinator, this position coordinates and administers tutor services for the Adult Literacy Services Program (ALS), recruits and provides orientations, training and in-service workshops to tutors for various adult literacy programs, and provides on-going coaching and support for tutors.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

• Organizes, conducts and evaluates orientations, trainings and in-service workshops for tutors of adult learners; organizes conversation classes and determines the schedule and use of the student computer.

The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Principal Staff Specialist in the Strategic Incentives Division (SI) Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented position.

The Strategic Incentives Division supports the Air District’s mission by implementing incentive programs (grant programs) that achieve voluntary reductions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, primarily from on- and off-road vehicles and equipment that operate in the Air District’s jurisdiction. In 2023-2024, the SI Division is administering more than $90 million in new revenue to fund programs and projects that replace older diesel-fueled vehicles and equipment such as school and transit buses, marine vessels, locomotives, trucks, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, and other mobile equipment, with newer, cleaner alternatives, including zero-emission technologies, and install refueling/charging infrastructure that supports the accelerated adoption of zero-emissions vehicles and equipment. Other programs administered support the reduction of single-occupancy vehicle, provide cash and mobility options to residents for turning in their older vehicles, and provide grants to reduce pollution from woodburning devices. The Division develops programs to meet community identified strategies for reducing air quality disparities and that benefit the Bay Area’s most overburdened communities.

About you in the position

The Principal Staff Specialist (AB 617 role) in the SI Division will coordinate the division's efforts in bringing greater equity to grant programs through program development, collaboration with other divisions, and engagement with communities under the AB 617 program. With your in-depth knowledge of the Air District’s emission reduction grant programs, you will lead the division's participation in internal and external AB 617 engagement, including communicating the role of the division; analyzing, reporting, and presenting information about air quality improvement incentive programs and mobile sources, participating in community meetings, proposing and guiding discussions on incentive-related emission reduction strategies and actions, developing plans/programs to implement action, and soliciting feedback on strategy implementation. Examples of other tasks include preparing written materials related to grant programs, reports and plans; proposing recommendations for updates to current incentive programs; developing and supporting the development of new programs; assessing impacts of regulatory actions on mobile source categories; presenting to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders; and leading and training staff. This position will require working nights and weekends on occasion to attend community meetings and public events. ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general direction of the Finance Officer, this position performs professional and technical work of a confidential nature in the areas of payroll, general accounting, public employee retirement (CalPERS) reporting, and workers’ compensation pay integration. This position assists with the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the District, including maintenance of accounting and payroll records, and other tasks as assigned. SALARY AND HOURS: The salary range for Interns is $20.00 per hour, 15-18 hours per week over a 12-week period.  The start date is flexible depending on the student’s availability.

The applications will be screened and a limited number of applicants possessing the most relevant qualifications will be selected to participate in an oral interview.  Recommendations for appointment to the positions will be based on the results of these interviews.  Prior to appointment, fingerprinting for submission to the Department of Justice must be completed with favorable results.
