Network Technician

This person is expected to be an outstanding contributor to the Library Information Technology team. The ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to effectively manage customer service requests with professionalism and expertise, contributed to a team environment, communicated effectively with technical and non-technical customers and demonstrated excellent technical problem solving skills.

Typical duties for the Library FT Network Technician may include but are not limited to the following:

1. Manage Active Directory Users and Computers

    -Create and manage user accounts

    -Create and manage computer accounts

    -Manage permissions to network file resources

2. Support all Library end-user hardware devices and software

    -Deploy, support and manage desktop hardware and mobile devices

    -Support standard software and Library-specific applications

    -Support and manage printers, scanners and multi-function network devices

3. Manage helpdesk requests and provide end-user technical support

    -Respond to customer service requests

    -Manage daily workload for helpdesk ticketing system and follow up on outstanding items

    -Resolve customer complaints and service issues

    -Utilize desktop image deployment software during upgrade projects

4. Maintain system security which includes

    -Maintain and manage desktops with the Symantec, Faronics, or TrendMicro anti-virus system

    -Install and maintain systems security updates

5. Maintain Library mobile devices

    -Secure devices for public users after daily programming

    -Under supervision, create device images for public use

    -Deploy images to remote devices

THE POSITION

DEFINITION

To organize, assign and review the work of assigned personnel engaged in the performance of responsible technical duties related to computer hardware and software customer support; to perform duties requiring specialized knowledge; and to provide technical support to assigned supervisor.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Senior Information Technology Technician is the advanced journey level in the Information Technology Technician class series.  Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken and by the amount of time spent performing the duties.  Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series, which may include providing technical and functional supervision over assigned personnel.  Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

• Receives direction from a higher level supervisor.
• May exercise technical and functional supervision over technical information technology staff.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of technical information technology functions that may include the installation and configuration of hardware and software, troubleshooting of desktop operating systems, and end user, as assigned.
• Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
• Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications.
• Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
• Provide technical support in diagnosing and solving the more difficult problems by telephone or remote access; respond to help desk trouble tickets according to urgency and priority levels; log calls into help desk database and use helpdesk software.
• Develop documentation and standard operating procedures as they relate to assignment.
• Perform research to resolve problems or refer to higher level staff.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related work as required.

When Assigned to Client Services

• Oversee and participate in projects related to the deployment of PC’s, the procurement of software and hardware, and/or hardware consolidation.
• Test, implement and maintain computer systems to manage devices and automate distribution of software and security updates.
• Participate in the development and implementation of automation and process improvement in the areas of software distribution, security updates and the management of desktop computer.
• Test and implement upgrades to desktop enterprise applications and operations systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve the more difficult projects related to network account management; provide support for emergency incident diagnosis resolution.
• Install and configure desktop computers, printers, and other desktop peripherals; install and support various software and train customers in the use of hardware and software.
• Support and troubleshoot current desktop operating systems; perform basic diagnostic testing; analyze root cause of problem and develop long-term solutions.
• Analyze failed equipment and perform repairs or return equipment to vendor; review and test vendor repairs.
• Order supplies and maintain and track inventory; assist in asset management of personal computers, laptops, and related peripheral equipment.

When Assigned to Network Infrastructure:

• Provide Tier I support, troubleshooting and resolving network related issues with city staff.
• Assist with Tier II support of the City network infrastructure systems and resources – assist in maintaining and documenting these systems; monitoring and management of all hardware and software associated with the City’s wireless and wired local and wide area networks.
• Work with vendors and city staff to implement new and upgrade existing solutions related to network infrastructure.
• Assist IT Analysts and Information Security Administrator to maintain security systems, components and configurations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of information technology, including personal computers, hardware and software and related peripheral equipment.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Experience:

Two years of responsible experience performing duties similar to that of an Information Technology Technician II in the City of Roseville.

AND

Training:

An Associate’s degree or 60 semester units of college level course work including 18 units in a major field of study and 21 units in general education from an accredited college or university. Preferably in computer science, information systems, or a related field.  Two years of related work experience can substitute for an Associate’s Degree.

License or Certificate:

Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.

Plan Checker I/II/Engineer

Depending upon class level and assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Review and examine construction documents, plans and specifications for one and two family, and multi-family residential, and basic commercial and industrial projects.
• Conduct plan checks on commercial and residential building structures; review structural calculations, fire resistance requirements, earthquake resistance and soils engineering. Conducts plan checks for commercial buildings to be remodeled and/or altered.
• Confer over the phone or in person with homeowners, builders, engineers, contractors, architects and the public to give information and interpret building codes and regulations and permit requirements; recommends necessary changes to obtain compliance with applicable building and zoning codes and regulations.
• Review corrected plans for conformity with requirements; ensures that proper building permit requirements are met.
• Receive and assess fees for new development and construction projects.  Issue and process building permit applications.
• Maintain records of incoming plans and those completed.
• Conduct field inspections as required. Make on‑site construction inspections on occasion, when required to confirm that construction complies with approved plans and specifications.
• Coordinate plan check activities with other City departments and with outside agencies.
• Initiate appropriate action to enforce code compliance.
• Prepare reports and written correspondence to architects, engineers, contractors and others related to the correction of plans and engineering detail.
• Confer with building inspectors on building‑related problems arising in the field during construction.
• Coordinate construction plans examination processes with those of other City departments and units.

ABOUT THE POSITION
City of Gilroy is recruiting a college intern to work in the Planning Division of the Community Development Department.  The Planning Division College Intern will support the City Planners, and will provide excellent customer service at the counter by: responding to inquiries, providing information, and checking permits and related applications.  The Planning Division College Intern will have an opportunity to manage one or more current planning projects.
 
 
WORK SCHEDULE
Internships can start as early as May 1, 2020 and end as late as September 30, 2020.  There is a possibility for the internship to be continued through June 30, 2021 (on a reduced schedule as described below.)
 
Interns may work full time (40 hours per week) up to 11 weeks during summer or when school is not in session.  Interns may work part-time (up to 25 hours per week) year round if working more than 11 weeks or when school is in session.
 
The official start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between   8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Interns may be assigned to attend some evening and weekend events, and off-site meetings.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST - GIS

Salary Range: $25.73 - $35.35 (part-time/non-benefitted position)

DEFINITION

The position of Technical Specialist – GIS, will develop, support, and maintain new and existing GIS (Geographic Information System) layers and GIS user applications in a LAN/WAN and cloud environment. As part of the Information Technology Division, this position provides Town-wide GIS support to Town staff, with an emphasis on the Administrative Services Department (Economic Development and Community Events), and Development Services Department (Planning, Engineering, and Transportation Divisions).

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This class is distinguished from the other positions in the Information Technology Division by its part-time status and the specific emphasis on development, implementation, and increasing usage of Geographic Information System by multiple departments. Under direction, the individual is responsible for organizing and performing analytical work within established schedules and standards using independent judgment and solving overall system problems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Position reports to an Information Technology Analyst within the Administrative Services Department.  This is a journey level technical classification in the Information Technology Division.  Employees at this level will receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of and follow operating procedures and policies.  Successful performance of work requires the ability to work independently, perform complex analyses and research, assist Town staff in the use of the GIS system, and effectively facilitate group discussions. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

The position will be responsible for the following primary tasks, including:

• Develop and maintain geographic information
• Maintain the Town’s GIS base layer
• Provide ad-hoc geographic data manipulation
• Perform spatial analysis for all facets of the Town’s GIS including the vector and attribute information and system interfaces
• Train GIS users in classroom and one-on-one settings
• Develop system documentation and user manuals
• Provide technical assistance with GIS applications and queries to all departments and divisions, as required
• Perform movement of equipment, as needed (up to 50 pounds)
• Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• The concepts and use of GIS systems in general; current versions of ESRI’s ArcGIS/ArcMap geographic information software suite
• Local Area Networking Concepts (Microsoft)
• SQL Server databases as well as all forms of databases in general
• Windows 7 and 10 or higher desktop operating systems
• Microsoft Office Professional applications; knowledge of Windows Server 2008/2012, SQL Server database applications, networking devices and protocols, peripheral devices (external drives, printers, plotters, etc.) and their integration into systems is a plus.

Ability to:

• Design GIS databases; develop map production system to support Town needs
• Research and determine the accuracy of new and existing map layers through inspections and documentations
• Develop a map/layer library; standardize GIS methodology and document the GIS system; develop system handbook and procedures; maintain GIS layers
• Prepare customized reports based on spatial analysis and data linkage
• Maintain knowledge of GIS innovations and related hardware/software
• Conduct ongoing training for GIS users; analyze information needs and apply GIS technological solutions in satisfying customer needs.

A Bachelor’s Degree is highly desirable.

SEEKING A HIGHLY MOTIVATED SENIOR PLANNER WHO LOVES PEOPLE AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, AND IS A SKILLED COLLABORATER 

The City of Sausalito seeks to fill one full-time vacancy for Senior Planner.  Under direction of the Community Development Director, the Senior Planner administers specified planning activities including current planning, zoning and subdivision ordinance, advanced planning and the General Plan; complex professional planning activities, such as serving as project manager for multifaceted development and land use applications and long-range policy planning projects including Zoning Ordinance and General Plan Amendments. This is a lead position in the Community Development Department and will participate in advanced, multi-department initiatives.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE will be a natural leader with keen emotional intelligence, able to navigate a variety of interpersonal situations with ease and integrate into the planning team with finesse.  The successful candidate will be able to mentor others within the planning unit and explain complicated planning issues in an easy to underStand manner.  

The Senior Planner also:

• Reviews applications for residential, commercial and other land use development; evaluates alternatives and conformance with City policies, ordinances, the General Plan and state and federal laws; prepares and presents staff reports to the Planning Commission and City Council regarding such applications;
• Serves as project manager for complex planning projects, including analyzing and evaluating site and architectural plans, performing technical review for project plans and applications and making recommendations;
• Manages consultant contacts including determining scope of work and budgets, tracking budgets and approving contract payments;
• Updates and creates long-range planning documents such as the City’s General Plan and other assigned plans; prepares modifications to specific General Plan elements;
• Serves as staff liaison for review boards, ad-hoc committees and elected officials, including providing technical advice and giving presentations;
• Confers with and provides information to property owners, contractors, developers, engineers architects and the public regarding conformance to standards, plans specifications and codes; explains codes, requirements and procedures and evaluates alternatives;
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service;
• Ability to deal with the public under stressful circumstances in a fair, calm and understanding way to obtain positive results;

THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT: 

The Community Development Director oversees a Planning Division and Building Division which are staffed by Senior Planner, Associate Planner, Assistant Planner, Building Inspector, Permit Technician and Administrative Aide. Contract staff provide Building Plan Check and Code Enforcement services.  The Planning Division provides staff support to the Planning Commission, the Historic Landmarks Board, and the City Council.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of:

• Principles, practices and procedures related to City and regional planning and zoning administration, including applicable laws and regulations;
• Comprehensive plans and current planning and the development process;
• Project management techniques;
• Practices of researching planning issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective staff reports.

Ability to:

• Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public, often under challenging circumstances;
• Administer complex current and advanced planning and zoning conformance activities in an independent and effective manner;
• Conduct complex planning research projects, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations and prepare effective technical staff reports;

Education/Training/Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in city, urban or environmental planning, architecture or a field related to the area of assignment and five years of planning related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above. A Master’s Degree in Planning or a related field is preferred but not required. Two years of project management or supervisory experience are also preferred. Certification from American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is desirable.

Must possess a valid Class C California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
