DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

     The San José Fire Department is seeking to hire a qualified individual to fill a Network Technician position. 

     Network Technician I salary range is $56,825.60 - $69,243.20.

     Network Technician II salary range is $66,830.40 - $81,224.00.

     Network Technician III salary range is $74,048.00 - $90,043.20.

     The starting salary will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Network Technician I/II/II classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

     The Fire Department’s Information Technology Team supports 33 fire stations and 2 field offices, ensuring availability and reliability of their critical software/hardware systems.  The individual hired into this job classification will provide significant technical assistance with major computer systems that support Fire operations such as:  supporting connectivity for the remote locations as well as fire apparatus, proactively and efficiently support the enterprise client environment, which includes the latest Windows Operating Systems, Office 365 suite, Mobile Devices, and other enterprise software.  Primary duties of this individual include day-to day system administration for the desktop hardware and software, Office 365, and mobile devices, as well as resolving end-user help requests.

     Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

     * Provide support for Windows desktop and office productivity applications such as Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Office 365 suite, and client applications.

     * Provide support for mobile devices such as iPads, iPhones, Android devices, apparatus MDC’s and their associated applications.

     * WAN support for data network connecting 38 Fire Department facilities.

     * Create and update desktop, laptop, and mobile images.

     * Assist with managing and maintaining Fire Department file servers, print servers and application servers.

     * Respond to incoming incidents and/or help requests from end-users via telephone, email in a timely and courteous manner.

     * Prioritize and schedule help desk tickets and post resolutions.

     * Setup, troubleshoot, deploy, and maintain hardware and software for department PCs, printers, peripherals and network and communications hardware.

     * Create and manage Active Directory objects such as users and computers.

     * Apply drivers, patches and anti-virus/malware updates to PC’s and mobile devices.

     * Respond to and remediate desktop level security incidents.

     * Update documentation for service desk tickets, knowledge base, system administration procedure, etc.

     * Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.

     * Perform duties with minimum supervision following Department standards and best practices to make good judgment calls for system issues resolutions or escalation.

About the Position:  We are looking for an organized, self-motivated, and independent worker with excellent verbal and written communication skills who is detail-oriented, yet can see the broader perspective, and is able to meet deadlines while managing multiple competing priorities.  The Management Analyst I/II will work on the District’s Climate Resiliency and Solutions Program to develop strategies to reduce the carbon emissions of the District’s operations through implementation of the Climate Action Plan.  This position will analyze and develop strategies to increase the resiliency of District lands to the impacts of climate change and develop habitat restoration and management actions to increase the carbon sequestration of target habitats.  Additionally, this position will provide day-to-day administrative, budgetary, and work-flow support to departmental projects and programs; analyze programmatic practices and procedures and makes recommendations for organizational, operational, policy, and procedural improvements. 

Work Environment:  This position will primarily work in the Natural Resources Department at the District’s office in Los Altos, California in a sedentary, office setting, using standard office equipment.  This position will often work in the field, and hike steep terrain and wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife. Fieldwork will require driving in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and blustery to hot and dry.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment.

Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Management Analyst I:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, and/or biological or physical sciences or related fields, and one (1) year of responsible analytical experience.

Management Analyst II:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, and/or biological or physical sciences or related fields, and three (3) years of professional analytical experience, or two (2) years of experience equivalent to Management Analyst I at the District.

The City of San Dimas Parks and Recreation Department offers a basketball league for youth ages 8-14 that emphasizes teaching fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork and fun. The program runs from December until March. POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Information Technology Manager, the Information Technology Technician position supports programs and activities related to the City’s technology and telecommunications operations and systems. This includes performing basic computer related duties such as analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical operational problems for desktop computers, peripherals, and networks; providing informal training to users on system implementation and operations; performing other related duties as assigned by supervisor. The assignment is 27-30 hours per week for approximately 6 months and may be extended.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS   

• Respond to all information technology help desk requests and provide a full range of assistance and help to system and equipment users in the role of help desk expert.   
• Performs basic and advanced configuration, installation and maintenance of computers, peripherals, telephones and mobile devices.   
• Participates on project teams to ensure successful implementation of new systems or upgrades to existing systems.   
• Analyzes and/or resolves computer, software, and application problems for on-premise and cloud-based systems and network resources supported by the City of Los Altos.   
• Monitors computer systems, networks, and applications for response time, problem prevention, performance and resource utilization.   
• Reports hardware failures to appropriate vendors via telephone or on-line systems.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience, education and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities could be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:    

• An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field such as computer science, information technology
  systems or a related field. Professional certification in one or more fields of information technology may be substituted for the education. Additional years of experience may be substituted for educational experience on year for year basis.  
• Possession of a MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate). CompTIA A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE) is desirable but not required.  
• 3+ years of experience providing user support in the operation, maintenance, and implementation of applications programs on multiple platforms
  including client/server, desktop computer and networks.  
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.

COMPENSATION

OTHER INFORMATION
Part-Time/Temporary/Seasonal employees are non-benefited, at-will positions. Since the City does not participate in Social Security and is required to provide an alternative retirement plan, you are required to participate in the City's defined contribution retirement plan through Nationwide where 3.75% of your gross compensation per pay period is deducted and put into the plan. The City matches this 3.75% for a total contribution of 7.5% of your gross compensation per pay period.

Responsibilities:

The Business Solutions Deputy CIO oversees a team of approximately 30 contributors and a portfolio of over 140 main business applications and growing. The team oversees a technical environment consisting of PeopleSoft HCM/Payroll; Cayenta FMS; Taleo; Hyperion; Oracle and MSSQL databases; Office 365 and SharePoint; Azure solutions; enterprise reporting and data visualization; and database administration services.

Desired Qualifications:

• Strong product and project management experience and results, preferably including use of both agile and traditional approaches
• Strong personnel management skills, including staff development, coaching, evaluation, and hiring
• SharePoint managed as enterprise content management, intranet, eDiscovery, and/or online workflow solution
• Applied knowledge of systems, networking, and cloud services
• Strong communication, collaboration and conflict resolution skills, as well as, a high degree of emotional intelligence
• 3+ years of successful experience managing enterprise data and integration services to successful outcomes
• 3+ years of successful experience managing human resources, financials, and budget systems to successful outcomes
• PeopleSoft 9.2 and ongoing releases for Enterprise Resource Planning
• Implementing and managing business process automation and workflow solutions
• Implementation of change and release management processes and business architecture that yield a high-degree of business alignment
