About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a collaborative, three-person Grants Program team within Administrative Services. Midpen aims to recruit and retain employees who embody professionalism, accountability, and respect, who value working in a purpose-driven agency that aspires to contribute to an inclusive, diverse and equitable community.

The Grants Program identifies and secures external funding and manages a small Grantmaking Program. In this role, the Senior Technician supports the entirety of the grant lifecycle, including identifying funding opportunities, application review and editing, and, once awarded, developing funding agreements, monitoring compliance with the grant agreements, and working with Midpen departments to submit reimbursement requests, reports, and project deliverables. Additionally, the Senior Technician supports the administration of a small grantmaking program. Other duties include administrative and record-keeping functions, including editing board reports, meeting scheduling, contract management, invoice processing, and data management.  This is an advanced journey-level classification, where you will be asked to perform detailed and technical work accurately and in a timely manner.

The San José Fire Department is looking to fill a Senior Geographic Systems Specialist position within the BAS/Fire IT division. This role will manage mapping projects and, when applicable, application development activities to support the mapping function. Under the direction of the Department Information Technology Manager, the key duties and responsibilities of this position include:
 

• Oversee GIS data management efforts, including Fire-specific layers, ensuring the quality and timely input of the data. This involves performing quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) and assisting with hands-on data management to minimize backlogs.
• Coordinate with various departments and the Enterprise GIS team on Fire data conversion and consolidation efforts, contributing to the Enterprise GIS data repository.
• Provide geodatabase development and programming (SQL Server), with the ability to understand complex database concepts, interfaces, and the implications of different database designs.
• Assist in the development and management of GIS project plans, including defining requirements, setting tasks and resource assignments, and ensuring standards, deadlines, and quality standards are met.
• Ensure City staff using GIS receive necessary training and technical support.
• Hire and manage GIS teams, including GIS I/II specialists, cartographers, data managers, analysts, and vendors, to meet GIS project objectives and timelines. Build team capacity to provide GIS project support, training, map production, and analysis services in addition to data management.
• Perform analytical analysis with large datasets.
• Prepare and perform data modeling and create entity-relationship diagrams.
• Develop, document, use, and troubleshoot workflows.

The San José Fire Department's (SJFD) core mission is to serve the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention and response. This is the trainee level class in the Firefighter series, responsible for becoming proficient in the understanding of lifesaving and firefighting methods within the SJFD. Through a specific program comprised of general and specialized education, focused training including extensive hands-on experience, Firefighter Recruits will learn diverse tasks, policies, procedures and standards within the SJFD. The City of Lincoln is hiring for the position of Maintenance Worker I/II within the Streets Division of the Public Works Department.  Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in one or more Public Works divisions; occasionally assists in the training of lower-level Maintenance Workers; and performs other related duties as required.

Maintenance Worker I

The Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is alternatively staffed with Maintenance Worker II and incumbents may advance to the higher-level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Maintenance Worker II

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performance the more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker I receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor.  Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision.  The Maintenance Worker II receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in streets, water, sewers, refuse collection, parks and buildings.
• Streets: Breaks, removes, crack seals, hydropatches, and repairs surfaces; digs, shovels, hauls, loads and unloads materials; operates jack hammers, tampers, pavement breakers and other hand and power tools; rolls and irons asphalt; operates trucks, backhoes, rollers, pavers, street sweepers and other construction vehicles and equipment; assists in the installation and maintenance of City signs, road markings, striping and delineators; paints street lines and crosswalks; performs concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter and ramp installation and repair; installs, maintains and repairs street lights; installs shoring and trench plates; monitors underground service alert (USA’s) and marks when necessary; conducts street leaf pickup; mows roadsides.
• Water Distribution and Drainage: Constructs, maintains and repairs storm conduits, curbs, gutters and drainage facilities; installs, repairs and maintains water mains and lines; conducts maintenance at well sites; monitors pump stations; operates jack hammers and other tools and equipment; inspects tools and equipment for safety and mechanical defects; installs and repairs water service connections, meters and boxes; performs monthly meter reads; repairs, installs and tests hydrants; monitors USA’s and marks when necessary; operates trucks and other construction vehicles and equipment; locates and repairs leaks in water lines; cleans storm drains, flood control facilities and inlets; operates sewer camera and hydrovac.
• Parks and Buildings: Maintains lawns, shrubs, and trees; assists in spraying of herbicides and pesticides; cuts, sprays and removes weeds; clears brush and debris; assists with planting and maintenance of landscaped areas; installs, maintains, repairs and programs irrigation systems; cleans and maintains parks and city buildings; assists in the performance of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling tasks.
• Solid Waste: Operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; drives to landfill site when vehicle is full and unloads material; evaluates and updates assigned routes; cleans, maintains and inspects assigned vehicles; maintains daily logs.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; may provide training to lower-level staff; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. In addition, responding to general questions from the public regarding non-domestic and/or domestic animals.

DEFINITION:

To assist in implementing, coordinating, and evaluating recreation and programs and events, including but not limited to Teen Programs, Youth Programs, After School Programs, Aquatic Programs and events, promotional events, special events and excursions.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who:

• Experience scheduling, organizing, assigns, and monitors program volunteers.
• Is able to creates publications and flyers using Microsoft Office or web-based solutions like Canva.
• Is familiar and able to creates promotional materials, including press releases and social media posts.
• Experience in planning, coordinating, and directing events, programs, and activities.
• Able to work with others and create relationships with partner non-profit organization.
• Experience collecting data and creating reports from all senior programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Implement, coordinate, and evaluate recreation programs, aquatics programs, special recreation events and services; publicize programs, events and services. Train, schedule and assign program staff and volunteers; assist in the development of staff evaluations. Assist with coordination and scheduling of the recreation or aquatics programs.  Promote and maintain safety in the work place. Maintain records and statistical data on programs. Issue, secure and maintain program equipment and supplies.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that Employee must be present to work to complete assigned tasks.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Enforce all rules and regulations. Teach aquatic programs as assigned. Work cooperatively with others. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Community resources adaptable to the development of community services programs for specified recreation programs.  Principles of program coordination, training and evaluations.  Emergency procedures, First Aid and CPR.  Safety principles, practices and procedures.

Skill to:

Apply First Aid methods and safety precautions related to assigned programs.  Develop and maintain support for programs from the community and local organizations.  Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Oversee train and evaluate assigned staff.  Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of the required duties.  Operate office equipment, including a personal computer.

Ability to:

Develop cooperative public relations with the general public.  Remain calm in stressful situations.  Be consistent when enforcing rules and regulations.  Maintain authority and control over programs.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.  Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

Two (2) year of increasing responsible experience in the delivery of recreation services. A Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted for one year of experience.

License or Certificates:

When only assigned to recreation duties, the following is required and must be maintained during the course of employment.

• Required upon hire:
  •  Valid California Driver’s license,
• Required within six months of hire,
  • Possession and maintenance of a current American Red Cross First Aid Certificate or equivalent and
  • Current American Red Cross Community CPR Certificate or equivalent

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Administrative Services, the Management Analyst (Risk Management) provides professional support to risk management programs including: workers' compensation, safety compliance, review and approval of contracts and Certificates of Insurance, risk transfer, and leave and disability administration. 

In addition, you will have the opportunity to coordinate and oversee workers' compensation claims administration including monitoring accepted claims and providing information to claimants, attorneys, and the workers' compensation carrier. You will also serve as a consultant to City departments and employees on Risk Management (workers' compensation, safety, contract insurance) problems and communicate regularly with internal and external parties to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of assigned programs and activities, minimize risk, and advise of claim developments.
