The Novato Sanitary District is seeking an organized, collaborative, and fast-learning Administrative Services Technician to support a wide range of essential administrative services functions, such as risk management, human resources, purchasing, record management, and general administration. This position is well-suited for a candidate with a firm foundation of experience in secretarial or clerical support who is ready to build specialized and valuable technical skills. Under general direction of the Administrative Services Manager and assigned management personnel, the Administrative Services Technician will provide paraprofessional, technical, administrative, and secretarial support to District programs and services, applying procedural, program, and compliance knowledge gained over time. They assume ongoing, technical responsibilities specific to assigned areas, such as risk management and record management, and work with departments and outside agencies to coordinate assigned programs, projects, and services.  They also perform research and routine analysis on a wide variety of special projects.

The Administrative Services Technician also supports the general administration of the District office, such as proofreading, filing, processing mail, answering the telephone, providing front counter customer service, maintaining calendars, organizing office storage, and setting up and breaking down the Board Room for meetings and events.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate has experience in either of two backgrounds. The first is a background in providing journey-level clerical or technical support in the public or private sector that included interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports. Alternatively, the second is a background in providing advanced office support that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

In addition to one of these two backgrounds, the ideal candidate is curious and enjoys learning about new systems and functions at a technical level. They appreciate when careful precision and accuracy is necessary to complete a task. The idea candidate is open to helping with functions and tasks that they are not familiar with and will seek out resources and guidance to better understand the function and complete the task accurately. They are also proactive in identifying needs, developing and recommending solutions, and ensuring the solution is fully implemented.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience: A combination of training and experience that demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the essential duties of the position. A person with the following combined training and experience would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of increasingly responsible journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.
• Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited educational institution and two (2) years of journey-level clerical or technical support experience which included responsibility for interpreting and explaining complex rules and regulations, researching information, and preparing accurate documents and reports, or advanced office support work that included data entry and the processing of forms and records.

Other Requirements:

• Valid California motor vehicle driver's license and good driving record
• Eligibility to work in the United States under appropriate federal regulations.
• Completion of a medical examination administered by a licensed medical doctor, selected and paid by the District, to determine physical fitness for the job.
• All Novato Sanitary District employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the District requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. TOWN OF ATHERTON

The Town of Atherton is approximately five square miles. The City is located in the San Francisco Peninsula in Southern San Mateo County. Atherton is a small, rural, and residential community, with no industrial land-use base. Native trees cover the five miles of town. Atherton’s current population is 7,133 according to the California Census in 2020.       

The Town of Atherton invites you to apply for the position of Police Sergeant. This is an internal and external opportunity. Under the general supervision of the Police Commander, the Police Sergeant plans, schedules, deploys, trains, supervises, and reviews the work of Police Officers and civilian staff.  The Sergeant performs a wide range of patrol and related duties in the prevention of crime, maintenance of public order, protection of life and property, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances.  As part of the Management Team, the Sergeant assists in the preparation of collision investigations and criminal cases, provides courtroom testimony, serves in specialized organizational roles, and assists with various administrative functions.

An extensive background includes a polygraph examination and/or voice stress analysis, completion of the POST Personal History Statement along with medical and psychological exams if selected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities, which would be typically acquired through:

Education & Experience

• Completion of an associate degree and 4 years’ experience as a sworn Police Officer.
• Must have applied for the Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate.
• Highly desirable qualifications may include: an Advanced or Supervisory Certificate from P.O.S.T.; bachelor’s degree and/or completion of the Supervisors’ Leadership Institute (SLI) Course.

Knowledge of:

To excel as a Police Sergeant, you need a comprehensive blend of knowledge, skills and experience.  A thorough understanding of law enforcement protocols, including arrest procedures, search and seizure laws, use of force policies, and evidence handling, is essential for ensuring officers operate within legal boundaries. Familiarize yourself with our department's policies, regulations, and standard operating procedures. This includes administrative procedures, disciplinary protocols, and codes of conduct. As a sergeant, you'll be responsible for leading and managing a team of officers. Knowledge of leadership theories, personnel management, conflict resolution techniques, and performance evaluation methods will help you effectively supervise and motivate your team. Understanding community policing concepts and strategies is crucial for building positive relationships with community members, addressing local concerns, and implementing proactive crime prevention initiatives. This includes constitutional rights, case law precedents, ethical dilemmas, and the ethical responsibilities of police officers. Effective communication is vital for a police sergeant. The San José Fire Department is looking to fill a Senior Geographic Systems Specialist position within the BAS/Fire IT division. • Oversee GIS data management efforts, including Fire-specific layers, ensuring the quality and timely input of the data. This involves performing quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) and assisting with hands-on data management to minimize backlogs.

 Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Required License or Certificate

Temporary Maintenance Worker – Parks & Roadsides 

Salary: $20.00/hour

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position. 
• Flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week, which may include weekend work; not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year. The schedule for this position would be Friday through Monday. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

General supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. May exercise supervision of Work Alternative Program participants as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES 

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:  

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play. 
• Assist Maintenance Services personnel on assigned projects.  

• Perform duties within OSHA standards. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge of: 

• Construction and maintenance materials, methods, and terminology. 

• The use, purposes and maintenance of hand tools; and the operation of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment in performing duties. 

Ability to: 

• Understand and follow oral and written directions. 
• Ability to work both in a supervised and unsupervised environment. 
• Perform manual labor for extended periods of time; and operate under tight deadlines. 
• Lift equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. 
• Work flexible hours. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education: 

Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade. Graduation from high school or equivalent is preferred. 

Experience: 

Landscape and/or irrigation maintenance experience is desirable.
