ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting a full-time Senior Civil Engineer for our brand new recently implemented Utilities Department. In this exciting opportunity the Senior Civil Engineer is poised to play a significant role in designing, implementing, and optimizing utility systems to ensure reliability, efficiency, and sustainability. The Senior Civil Engineer will help establish utility engineering standards, protocols, and infrastructure as it relates to water and wastewater for the City of Gilroy. The Senior Civil Engineer will work under the direction of the Utilities Director and will manage, review, and perform duties relative to Utility Engineering and construction activities, supervise assigned employees, will direct and perform complex professional-level field and office engineering assignments, and play an important part in making a real-world difference in the community. A variety of Utility projects involve design, development, and construction of projects; therefore, exceptional project management skills are imperative to be successful in this role. Additionally, the Senior Civil Engineer will manage assigned staff and consultants and assist with budgeting tasks. Valley Water is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the Strategic Programs Administrator position within the Office of Integrated Water Management reporting to the Assistant Chief Executive Officer. The Strategic Programs Administrator serves as a strategic right-hand to the Assistant CEO helping to develop and maintain key agency-wide processes and procedures and oversee strategic projects and special initiatives. Overview:
The Associate Electrical Engineer will support the 24 x 7 continuous Water Utility raw, treated, and purified water operations, capital improvement projects, annual maintenance work plan, and asset management plans. They will be responsible for the planning, design, development, implementation, modification, installation, and maintenance of the Water Utility's critical electrical distribution systems in the area of water pumping, conveyance and treatment while ensuring work quality and adherence to professional codes, standards, and Valley Water specifications.
 
Raw water delivery operations depend on the reliable supply of electrical power for ensuring delivery of water-to-water treatment facilities, streams, and our customers. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
As a member of the Utility Electrical and Control Systems Engineering team:

• Plan, organize, schedule, assign, review, supervise and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
• Serve as a technical resource in electrical engineering including formulating projects, assessing program effectiveness, and analyzing a variety of unusual conditions, problems, or questions; oversee quality assurance and quality control activities within field/specialty of engineering.
• Conduct engineering studies, investigations, and analyses, such as conditional assessments, feasibility reports, event incident/root cause analysis reports, and engineering evaluations in support of a planned project/improvement, system deficiencies, non-code compliant conditions, and electrical system and process anomalies.
• Prepare electrical engineering schematics, specifications, drawings, wiring diagrams, power, lighting, and floor plans, conduit and wire schedules, electrical details, and other supporting documentation for commercial and industrial applications; perform economic and financial analysis of projects; provide cost estimates and cost benefit analysis for comparison; review and comment on drawings, plans, and other work submitted by external consultants, engineers, contractors, and developers for conformance with current standards.
• Identify and report electrical deficiencies and safety issues; investigate and create root cause analysis from electrical system reports; interview operations and maintenance staff and conduct field observations and inspections; develop recommendations to mitigate electrical disturbances, outages, and abnormalities; lead or assist in resolving deficiencies and safety issues.
• May grow into a supervisory role to plan, organize, schedule, assign, review, supervise and evaluate the work of assigned staff.

• Strong academic background, with four (4) years of experience in planning, designing, developing, implementing, modifying, installing, and/or maintaining electrical power system projects. 
• Design, installation and troubleshooting experience in electrical power systems within an industrial plant/facilities environment.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (ABET accredited college/university). 
• Experience with a diverse set of projects, ranging from researching electrical and hardware components to troubleshooting and repairing existing electrical systems, is a plus.
• Experience in working with potential vendors with adequate information for bids working with potential vendors and evaluating bids preferred.

The Position: 

The Utility Crew Supervisor is a lead supervisory classification in the Water and Sewer Utility Department. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for performing the most difficult and responsible technical duties and supervising the work of an assigned crew in a specialty area such as water construction and maintenance, water meter testing and maintenance, and sewer system maintenance. The Utility Crew Supervisor is distinguished from the Assistant Water Superintendent in that the latter is responsible for overseeing a Program in the Water Construction, Maintenance, and Operations Division.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.

Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction, maintenance, or operations with a public or private water or sewer utility organization.

License/Certifications: 

• A valid Water Distribution System Operator Certificate (Grade D-2 or above) issued by the California Department of Health Services is required at time of application and for the duration of employment.
• A valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

The following are required when assigned to the water construction and maintenance or sewer system maintenance specialties:

• A valid California Class A or B Commercial driver's license is required at time of application and for the duration of employment.
• A valid Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 2 or above) issued by the California Water Environment Association is required within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.

The following is required when assigned to the water meter testing and maintenance specialty:

• A valid Backflow Prevention Tester Certificate issued by the California-Nevada Section of the American Water Works Association or the Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research is required within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Depending on position assignment, qualifying experience may be required in one of the following specialty areas: water construction and maintenance, water meter testing and maintenance, or sewer system maintenance.

The Department of Public Works is seeking to fill a vacant Senior Architect/Landscape Architect position.

Public Works' City Facilities Architectural Services (CFAS) Division has the primary responsibility for the delivery of capital improvements for City-owned facilities including for recreational facilities, parks, trails, libraries, public safety facilities, and various cultural facilities. CFAS is recruiting for a Senior Landscape Architect to lead a section dedicated to providing landscape architectural services to the full range of City projects largely focused on the design and construction of park and recreation projects.

The incumbent will supervise a Section, with a staff of up to six professionals, which is responsible for the design and implementation of landscape architectural projects meeting functional programs and aesthetic objectives , within budgetary and schedule parameters . The incumbent is responsible for functions such as planning, cost estimating and scheduling future projects; coordinating with partners and developers reviewing and providing feedback on master plans, cost estimates, park design plans for City standards and code compliance, and construction management and inspection coordination; implementing a program of capital projects ranging in size and complexity from minor renovations to major new facilities including notable, high-profile projects, such as a regional soccer complex, skate parks, and the extensive remediation and restoration of existing city parks.

• Plans, assigns, directs and evaluates the work of professional and sub professional employees on major projects. The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Building Inspector to provide building construction inspections. Depending on the applicant qualifications, the position will be filled at the appropriate level/salary of either a Building Inspector I or Building Inspector II.

This position is part of a 12-person building inspection team working on a variety of projects including single-family residential, commercial tenant improvements in existing and new buildings, new construction of large development projects of townhomes, multifamily, hotels, and Class A office buildings.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of the building codes, is a good communicator to coworkers, contractors, and other members of the public.  They will be able to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports, correspondence, and other required documents.  They will be required to maintain forms, records, and field reports relative to inspection activities and to document findings.
